Head Coach Candidates

He is not the #1 candidate. He 1 of the 2 that can interview this week. All the other candidates likely to get a 2nd interview are still in the playoffs.
2 years running Andy Reid's system as his QB and 5 years as an Andy Reid coach, 1 very impressive year as the NYG OC, and the smartest candidate in the running is what makes him the #1 candidate.

There’s absolutely more time and BS involved in an in person meeting than a zoom meeting.
I've been on many zoom and in person meetings. If the in person meeting is properly prepared, it can take less real time for the interviewee. The in person in Ryans' case, the time and the place would have been at his convenience. He would only have had to show up and leave when finished. The interviewers (in this case McNairs et al.) would have been responsible for the setup and would have been the only ones required to put additional time and effort into the interview.

I have also been in many of both and I’m not saying in person meetings are a gargantuan task but it’s absolutely more convenient and expedient to hop on a zoom call than meet in person.

The #1 defense in the League, Texans' fan favorite, ex-Texans player, and coaching to go to the Superbowl makes Demeco the #1 candidate.

Hired by Janice and Cal, who both interviewed him personally. She loved his 'verve.' Culley and Frazier were the options, laid out for Nick in his interview.
This does not surprise me at all. One, this is Caserio's MO, to defer decisions to others, that is what he always did in NE. Two I have no doubt Janice and Cal bought off on Culley, as they will with every HC they hire, that is what McNair's do, but it was Caserio who brought him to dinner.

So Demeco is going to the Super Bowl with Robert Saleh's defense that was assembled by John Lynch. Reminds me of Barry Switzer winning the Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnson's team. DeMeco as a Texan had a losing record. The Texans thought so much of DeMeco they traded him to Philadelphia. Really doesn't sound all that promising.

You do what your bosses want you to do. On this case hire a minority to try and placate Derrick was the mandate from ownership.

Texans had a trade in place to draft Mahomes 6th overall.

Rick was given the hammer by Bob. He thought Depredator would be better. The scouts and coaches were not pleased.
As silly as it sounds now, Watson v Mahomes was debatable during that draft season. Mahomes was considered as having a really low floor because of bad habits even if he had the highest QB ceiling in that draft. In a lot of ways, Watson was the safer of the two, but still had plenty of flaws.

"Lacking Elite Talent" sounds really familiar to the 2023 discussion.

I'm all in on Demeco, but I don't know a lot about the other candidates. I'll be excited about whoever they choose, but I like Demeco because I think he's going to be a good HC.

I think he knows a lot about defense as well...But all good coordinators don't make good head coaches. Even some of the most brilliant coordinators aren't cut out to be head coaches. Demeco gives me HC vibes.

This.

I hated on missing out on Mahomes and drafting Watson initially, but I warmed up to him. But at the time there wasn't a clear cut top end guy and many people had Watson or Trubisky as their top QB.

Ryans would be great.
Kafka good.
Payton bad.
Sleeper alert - Bengals DC Lou Anarumo and OC Brian Callahan TBD.
I like Ryans, he's a leader, players go to war for guys like Ryans, he can build the rest of his staff and let them go to work. He reminds me a lot of Tomlin and not because their both AA but almost the same age, (36 and 38) couple years as a DC and now getting a shot to be a HC because they are seen as leaders and we've seen what Tomlin has accomplished even with lesser talent lately. Ryans doesn't have the early SB as a DC that Tomlin has but there are some similarities. Just my 2 cents on Ryans.

No it’s not.
Well as it pertains to this thread - Mike Kafka cut his teeth as QB coach for Mahomes, for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2018-2021 seasons, a total of four years. Kafka's record as the team's quarterbacks coach was 49-15-0, making him the most successful quarterbacks coach in Kansas City Chiefs history. Then onto Daniel Jones. Every team/situation is different but generally as the team goes so does the QB along w/coach.

I have my own reservations about him as a HC but this is a terrible list of downsides

Kind of like taking the opposite pov in debate class. Comical how some of the Brigade take it so personal. The DeMeco Brigade are ready to fight.

So just to be clear yes I’m all in for Kafka, but I’m not optimistic, I’m not cautiously optimistic, I’m pessimistic about Kafka becoming the Texans HC. Why? Because there 4 other empty HC jobs available. It’s another case of thanks, but no thanks. I think it is impressive that he just interviewed on Sunday and the 2nd interview is on Tuesday. The Evero interview maybe for a future DC.
