2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

(1) I think Jalen Carter could be as good as Quinnen Williams if not better. I'm a firm believer in building from the inside out. I do believe Carter would make a big difference in the Texan's anemic run defense and improve their pass defense too.

(2) I don't think anyone would be able to match Garoppolo's QB rating and completion %. I don't see a QB I would take on Day 1 or 2 of the draft. Some here are high on Anthony Richardson but I see him as more of a Vince Young. Richardson could become a top TE. Today, right now subject to change, if I were to take a flyer, it might be on this guy, Jack Haener:

Thanks for your thoughts on the topic Texian and I agree with you in large part with the concept of building from the inside out
however I suspect the Texans organization at this time of their "rebuild" is feeling lots of pressure to make a strong, maybe even dramatic effort to land a franchise QB which usually means a high-profile QB prospect in the Draft even though there may not
necessarily be a suitable prospect in the 2023 Draft.

I agree with you for many reasons but mostly because it is Cal and the Texans. It's looking like Pep will still be around so he drafted the last loser and will be drafting the next loser. They will draft Young or Stroud.

I wouldn’t put much weight on who is currently in the building. I think we will see a flurry of coaches being fired and hired as soon as the Texans select a HC.

Emphasis on "rarely"!
Yeah he's an outlier. Good luck to him.
Here’s the point. Sure Shanahan never expected Purdy to be forced into starting role so soon. More like we think this kid could run our offense given time. Jimmy G is not long as 49er, we’ll just add some depth.

Such an advantage to have continuity in your program that’s working. Makes deep shots even easier, builds depth where you need and culture ideal.

There is always some good arm talent you just have to look little deeper, go smaller than ideal if necessary and they fit your system. Right now, we don’t know the system and OC’s on the rise, are as hot as the QB’s they’re hired to develop.

If the new HC and OC see someone in the draft they're salivating over, bring him in!

Which is why they will continue to be a poorly run franchise. Reaching for QB's to put fans in the stands.

What makes you think Pep will be kept around?

If the new HC brings a WCO with him, I hope one of the 6ths is used on Adrian O'Connell

Exactly

Either Carter or Anderson.

Even though I want this to be an offense heavy draft, if you told me I could draft Carter and Wilson (Give me Carter) at 1-2 and Wilson at 1-12 sign me up for that all day everyday.

Then draft a guy like

2-32 Rice
2-37 Achane
3-64 Van Ness
3-75 Aila
4-103 Musgrave

You think these 4 players aren't difference makers that a when added to signing a center like Bradbury and a QB like Jimmy G wouldn't really improve this team? And trading down for a 2023 2nd and a 2024 1st in addition to these 4 guys? Sign me up.
Two questions for you:
(1) Do you really think that Jalen Carter alone could significantly elevate our defenses level of play ?
(2) After Young & Stroud is there a QB in this Draft who you think the Texans could select with our second (#12 overall) first round pick or our second round pick (#34 overall) who could be a potential starter for us ?
So with 1-2, I would draft Jalen Carter and with 1-12 if he is there, I would draft Devon Witherspoon and I might have just screwed up and drafted the two best players in the 2023 draft. (all Combine approved, of course)

Well, what do you know. We have a midget in the playoffs - Purdy. Doesn't appear to have a large frame, either.

Hopefully Kubiak helps Demeco pick the QB.

I would feel much more comfortable with a QB that got Kubiak's endorsement.

The Texans don’t have a quarter of the front seven Demeco has in SF to even sniff the same amount of success here in Houston. Unless they’re giving him 2 drafts to build a defense, the Texans should probably just go with Shane Steichen or Sean Payton.
I dont want them to do this but

1-2 Anderson
1-12 Hyatt
2-33 Ika

Have Demeco bring with him from San Fran in FA

Omenihu/Al- Shaair/Ward

The defense would be much improved, but the team would still be bad because they cant score enough points, but hey, is that a bad thing?

So are you going to give them the Mills treatment?

I can't wait to see the double standards around here I don't think Mills got a fair chance even though I don't see him as a top tier QB, he was better than Lawrence his rookie ye. Difference is Lawrence got Pederson as his HC and Pederson put weapons around Lawrence. Mills got Lovie and Pep with no real weapons.

I'm hoping whoever the new HC/QB is Caserio drafts a bunch of weapons to put around the new QB.
Lawrence has way more talent also
