And wasn’t that under Shotmyselfinthefootenheimer?Brees' last 2 seasons in San Deigo were well above average, border line great (for the time and on a very run first team). In '04 he finished 3rd in MVP voting, with roughly 3200 yards and 27 TDs against 7 INTs. '05 was similar with more INTs. And that is throwing the ball 100+ fewer times than he ever did in New Orleans. So yeah, Payton's offense was certainly more prolific, but I'll stand by Drew's development happened mostly in San Diego.
I never would have thought Texans fans would be so against reaching for the stars for a top HC. The one thing this franchise has never had. Crazy.
I was kinda surprised myself.I never would have thought Texans fans would be so against reaching for the stars for a top HC. The one thing this franchise has never had. Crazy.
At least he knows a good QB when he sees one. That's an art that has eluded many Texans head coaches.I for one thInk his fame of winning is due to Drew Brees more than anything else.

Pro Bowlers the Saints drafted while Payton was head coach:Couple of tidbits on Payton.
1) He was a terrible drafter, Saints drafts were mostly pretty bad. 2017 was huge though, without that draft class they don't surge.
The post I just quoted above? I think the world of @CloakNNNdagger. But that post is flat out ridiculous. I've made my share of ridiculous posts, so I know one when I see one.Doc said it best in post #2190
I'm down with Sean Payton. But... do we know this? An example is Drew Brees. He identified a good QB. Any others? The next best example is Taysum Hill. He doesn't have a Jake Delhomme, Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Mike White, or Cooper Rush on his resume. At least he knows a good QB when he sees one. Pretty much.Isn’t that, essentially what the Texans have been paying their head coaches past two seasons?

I think he was instrumental in getting Romo in Dallas as well, that college alum connection. He worked with Romo in Dallas and tried to trade for him in 2006 before Brees was signed

Such as? Before Rodgers was drafted?Remember when Holgrem was in GB? He had a knack of bringing in good QBs even with good Favre on the roster.

Don’t kill the objectivity. It is good to have dissenting opinions. Especially when it is valid as opposed to handing over the keys and expecting the same results with a HOF QB.
I was thinking Kitna, but I know that's wrong (just looked it up) but I could have sworn he picked up two QBs behind Farve that went on to decent NFL careers.Such as? Before Rodgers was drafted?
Sometimes I think it’s Vinny posing as Lucky.
Lucky might, but maybe sworn to secrecySpeaking of Vinny, wonder how he’s been doing. Anyone know?
True. But something went wrong. Last I heard there was enmity between Parcels & Belichick
Couple of tidbits on Payton.
1) He was a terrible drafter, Saints drafts were mostly pretty bad. 2017 was huge though, without that draft class they don't surge.
2) He's gonna cost a first round pick plus more.
3) Payton was suspended by NFL for keeping Bountygate alive, did not coach the 2012 season. Offense scored 461 points in 2012. Next three seasons after Payton returned the offense scored 414, 401, and 408 points.
Not that I prefer Payton but he had Jameis Winston making good decisions in 2021 before Jameis got hurt...I think that in itself is huugggee.I think he was instrumental in getting Romo in Dallas as well, that college alum connection.
Still, I'm talking about in New Orleans. Other than Brees I'm not impressed with the QBs that went through there & there have been plenty late round QBs that have impressed during his tenure.
Remember when Holgrem was in GB? He had a knack of bringing in good QBs even with good Favre on the roster.
I believe he's getting an interview with the Panthers.Kind of surprised that Kellen Moore isn’t getting any run. Anyone got any insight on that?
I keep thinking what must be going through Texan fans heads. "If he's considering the Texans, there must be something wrong with him."till, I'm talking about in New Orleans. Two things:
1. Sean Payton potentially wants his players to play with injury because the team is more important than individual health.
2. Sean Payton trying to be coaching Lamar Jackson next year.
Texans need a QB. Sean Payton comes here with Lamar. (Brees and Payton 2.0) Texans have free cap space. Signs Lamar to massive contract.
We know the Saints had a bad salary cap situation when Payton left. If it doesn’t work out with Lamar such as if Lamar gets hurt like he does - Payton has a history of leaving a team with a bad salary cap and no QB to take over.
What? I said I'm down with Payton.I keep thinking what must be going through Texan fans heads. "If he's considering the Texans, there must be something wrong with him."
If Payton is criticizing Jackson for not playing with injury, why do you think he wants to coach him? Trying to follow your logic, but it's difficult.1. Sean Payton potentially wants his players to play with injury because the team is more important than individual health.

He can take his old OC Lombardi with him too, his scheme has damaged Herbert.
I saw a HBO special about Saban & Belichick a couple of years ago. Parcells was in it (he looked old) and him & Belichick looked as close as ever.True. But something went wrong. Last I heard there was enmity between Parcels & Belichick

And after this who does HOU draft with #2?Sour the relationship between Lamar and Ravens. Payton reaches out Lamar isnot re-signed and says I would have asked you to play but would have paid you too. Tells Cal to open his wallet. Cal asks “are you sure?” Payton says “I am Sean Payton!” Cal looks at Hannah for approval. Hannah gives him the nod. Lamar has the highest guaranteed contract. All good.

Well I expect the Chargers to enter the coaching sweepstakes now.. and they already have a young established QB. Chargers have had one of the most talented squads for about 20 years now.. Hell further than that if you go back to the early Seau years. For whatever reason they never do squat in the playoffs. They've basically been the Texans, but with a LOT more talent and wins.
Brunell and WarnerI was thinking Kitna, but I know that's wrong (just looked it up) but I could have sworn he picked up two QBs behind Farve that went on to decent NFL careers.
Good pointIf I remember correctly Belichick drafted Jacoby Brissett on Parcells recommendation.
Thank you. That’s exactly who I was thinking ofY'all are forgetting about Matt Hasselbeck..
OK. I guess I've seen stranger things. Like the Jags coming back after being down 27 points in a playoff game. All good.
What numbers? Those are the numbers, so Doc is correct.
