I'm down with Sean Payton. But... do we know this? An example is Drew Brees. He identified a good QB. Any others? The next best example is Taysum Hill. He doesn't have a Jake Delhomme, Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Mike White, or Cooper Rush on his resume.

He worked with Romo in Dallas and tried to trade for him in 2006 before Brees was signed

I think he was instrumental in getting Romo in Dallas as well, that college alum connection.

Still, I'm talking about in New Orleans. Other than Brees I'm not impressed with the QBs that went through there & there have been plenty late round QBs that have impressed during his tenure.

Remember when Holgrem was in GB? He had a knack of bringing in good QBs even with good Favre on the roster.

My biggest concern with Payton is how committed is he? 1) if it takes another couple of years of sub .500 ball to start to turn this around, is he going to want to stick around and see it through? 2) maybe it's just escaping my memory or I totally missed it, but why did he stop coaching the Saints?

I don't think there's a chance in hell he comes here, but that would concern me if he did.

I was thinking Kitna, but I know that's wrong (just looked it up) but I could have sworn he picked up two QBs behind Farve that went on to decent NFL careers.
 
Just watching the Niners game. Don't mind me I'm just thinking about how Shanahan should have been ours and how all this personnel and management would be perfect for the Texans and my personal preference of football.

Let's aim for this.

That's because when Parcells was with the Jets, Belichick was his DC. Parcells apparently told the Jets Owner that he was going to step down and that Belichick was going to take his place, but he did that without actually clearing it with Belichick. Belichick didn't learn about it until the press conference if I remember correctly (and I might not.)

But Belichick pulled a "No Fam." and went back to the Patriots, where he had been the DC with Parcells as well.

And enmity was born.

DISCLAIMER: This is entirely based on my memory of how things appeared to go down from the outside. The real story might be much more complicated.

3) Payton was suspended by NFL for keeping Bountygate alive, did not coach the 2012 season. Offense scored 461 points in 2012. Next three seasons after Payton returned the offense scored 414, 401, and 408 points.

4. Every time the announcers will talk about Payton and his time in New Orleans they will talk about how the city is still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina…

Not that I prefer Payton but he had Jameis Winston making good decisions in 2021 before Jameis got hurt...I think that in itself is huugggee.

2. Sean Payton trying to be coaching Lamar Jackson next year.

Texans need a QB. Sean Payton comes here with Lamar. (Brees and Payton 2.0) Texans have free cap space. Signs Lamar to massive contract.

We know the Saints had a bad salary cap situation when Payton left. If it doesn’t work out with Lamar such as if Lamar gets hurt like he does - Payton has a history of leaving a team with a bad salary cap and no QB to take over.

If Payton is criticizing Jackson for not playing with injury, why do you think he wants to coach him? Trying to follow your logic, but it's difficult.

Sour the relationship between Lamar and Ravens. Payton reaches out Lamar isnot re-signed and says I would have asked you to play but would have paid you too. Tells Cal to open his wallet. Cal asks “are you sure?” Payton says “I am Sean Payton!” Cal looks at Hannah for approval. Hannah gives him the nod. Lamar has the highest guaranteed contract. All good.

I see what should've been 2 SB appearances, winning one and consistently being a contender. Sign me up for that.
 
Well I expect the Chargers to enter the coaching sweepstakes now.. and they already have a young established QB. Chargers have had one of the most talented squads for about 20 years now.. Hell further than that if you go back to the early Seau years. For whatever reason they never do squat in the playoffs. They've basically been the Texans, but with a LOT more talent and wins.
