Going into 2023 I want to see _____

SnakeEyes

Under NRG
A friend asked me this question and thought it could be interesting. This has a few different parts. So read the full list.

1- Most improved players (pick 2) in 2023. And why.

Kenyon Green, guy is young and has shown that at times he can be a great player. I think with a full off season to study film and see his mistakes. Plus, a little strength and footwork progress he is going to have a very good year.

Christian Harris, the kid is fast and seems to have a high IQ. Similar to Green, a little more strength and film study could make him very productive as well as have the potential to get after the QB if given the chance.

2- Lovie Smith, if he stays. He needs to get some time in retooling his D. Tampa 2 needs alternatives and perhaps even multiple different packages to use the players to their potential...and use blitzes more. IF he goes I want a solid HC who demands the best of his players. Who will bring in good position coaches to get this thing rolling uphill! I have a few I would like but, that's for another day.

3- Top 2 disappointing players who we will be wanting to replace or draft a better one for that position.

I am going with Stingley and Mills. I don’t think Stingley is elite and his play is average with a few good points. However, his injury and his shown ability thus far are not making a case for his selection position. Mills has the tools to get better. I just don't know if we have the tools to get him to show his good points (see last year final games). And a new HC and position coach likely will want to select a QB of their own. Probably sooner than later.

4- Draft wants for 2023. You can name players or position.

I have to go with and Edge rusher and either a DT or OLB maybe both. I feel like whoever is the HC, we still need to beef up the DL more. And if we can snag a stud WR or OL it will no question help the team.

This is all opinion and feel free to offer opinions as well as reason you agree or disagree with each other.

....a new head coach and coordinators.

Beyond that it's all fantasy thinking about things that will never be (like new ownership). lol

I'd like to see them get a "franchise QB", but I have no idea if any of the guys coming out will fill that role (and honestly, neither do GMs. It's all an educated crap shoot.).

Crap in one hand........

I'd like to see the Texans pick future HOFers ready game one for every position of need in the draft and pick up depth... have an injury free season a strong run in the playoffs and a win in the SB.

I'd settle for a full cleaning house.... but even that isn't likely to happen.....

We need a couple of good vets on both sides of the ball. We have plenty of cash this time to bring in some quality guys.
If we hit on a couple more rooks on both sides of the ball, we will see a different team next season.

I want to see the 23 Draft picks I suggest in mocks be taken and all become starters.

I'm not sure if I should bring this up in this thread, but I would like to see competent QB play. IMO I don't see that in Mills. We could draft a QB and hopefully hit a homerun with the pick. it would take about three years to really determin that. However, that's a fifty/fifty proposition at best that it works out well. I know that this will bring on a bunch of booing, but for the last two weeks I have watched the Rams. Baker Mayfield has looked very solid, especially in the Denver game. I think he may well be the victim of mismanagement. Both by the teams and him self. He now has NFL experience and is only 27 years old. I think that if we could get him at a cap friendly structured contract it might be a smart move and use this years draft capital to put quality around him. Just a thought.

And maybe we could get a coach like McVay to bring out the best in him, otherwise I fear we'll see what he has shown prior to these last couple of games

COACHING MATTERS!!!

Demeco Ryans as HC.

TBH he is ready. The production with the 9ers is undeniable. 99% of that defense is playing above their pay grade
Are they?

They were really good under Saleh.

I like Demeco too and he's going to get a HC job. Probably not with the Texans.

Who's going to pay for the abestos cleanup?
The same people who are paying for it to sit there and do nothing?

I really don't get why it's still standing, especially when no one wants to come forward to do anything with it. If New York can tear down The House That Ruth Built, I think we can tear down the freaking Astrodome. For it to sit there for decades for no reason is just dumb.

I agree, just remove it. Use the real estate for something profitable

If the McNair's want the Dome to be torn down then let them pay for it. Otherwise they can look at it everyday they go to work.

The Dome belongs to Harris County. If an investment group pushed, they could probably get the Dome at no cost. They’d have to present a plan as to how and what the Dome would be become. The investment group might even get the County and City to pay for some the asbestos removal b/c no project is even going to get off the ground without the cleanup inside.

If I had enough time…..I believe I could figure out a game plan. It was considered the 8th wonder of the world at one time, so it would be worth the effort to find a way to keep it.

You're starting off with a fallacy. The Astrodome complex belongs to Harris County. Anything to be done with it has to go through Harris County Sports Authority and will probably require a bond election as the citizens are still paying for the last renovation. Anyone wants to do something with the dome needs to payoff that debt and pay for the abestos abatement and hope that they can get that through an election process

The Dome has not met the fire code since 2008. It is not being used for anything. The Rodeo even proposed knocking it down but preserving the heritage with a green space as recently as about 5 years ago.

My theory is that the Astrodome is a holding space for real estate for the new stadium that will be built eventually.

NRG is getting old and natural grass is becoming hip again.
Open air stadium?

The best proposal that I've seen was by Linbeck Construction in 2014. The concept was really cool, too. It paid respect to the history of the 'dome and Houston sports, while also providing a very useful area for a variety of events.

Astrodome demolition proposed by Texans, rodeo

What I don't expect to see;

Gannon becoming the new head coach. He has already interviewed for the job and decided to withdraw his name. For the same reasons he withdrew, he will remain uninterested. Gannon will be more interested in another team with more stability.

Demeco knows the McNairs better than any other prospective HC candidate. For that reason, Demeco will not be interested in the Texans. Demeco will be a HC elsewhere.

That is a misinterpretation of the facts for Gannon. He withdrew because he did not want Lovie as his DC. The slate will be clean this time for him. Not saying he will take the job or that we even offer it to him, but at least tell the entire story.

Gannon will ask and get more money this go around and get say in the picks.
