Week 12 -Miami Fish Fry the Texans

Haha! This team sucks so bad the game is being broadcast in a very limited portion of Texas. Basically from Houston down to Corpus. Anywhere else in Texas you gotta find somewhere else to watch it. Good thing. 13 point Dogs, on the road, new QB starting. This has the making of that OB trip to Miami game!
I’ll take the Over, don’t care what it is! Just need the browns to keep losing as well!

Geez, CBS has some sucky broadcast crews
Probably the three worst games of the CBS day. Although Ian Eagle is pretty good. And that may be a good game
What? No Tits in the thread title? We were losing just nicely like that. Now what happens if we win? I told yall not to be messing with stuff like this. You could at least have had Fish Fried Tits.
Thank you. The thread has been updated

On the plus side, if Allen is able to move the offense well, that will give the team a better idea of what problems to address in the off-season. If the offense looks the same, that may indicate different or additional problems to address.

Exactly! We have not seen the Pep offense with anyone but Mills under center. At least we should determine if some of the offense problems are Mills or Pep - or both.

I was wondering why the thread title changed

I did say before the season started based on Pep's work history and his history of moving on quickly from one job to another, that at some point this season Texans fans would miss Tim Kelly, and it wouldn't be long before it was time for Pep to be moving on to another job.

I don't mean to be contrite but we have seen several Pep offenses without Davis Mills. And in each case after a couple of years, Pep has been asked to move on. I understand why and have not seen any reason for things to be any different in Houston.

Should be noted that the Dolphins defense isn't very good. 22nd in points, 26th in 3rd downs, 28th in red zone, 7th highest completion percentage, 4th highest passer rating against, not much of a pass rush, and very few takeaways. And Xavien Howard isn't having a very good year. So IF the Texans are able to move the ball it doesn't necessarily mean Allen is the difference.

They’re going to look like the’85 bears doing the Super Bowl Shuffle. They’ll probably score more than our offense

I want to see how Stingley performs against Hill and Waddle. I keep remembering Lovie speaking with him at the draft about matching up against the opponent's #1 receiver every week. And then they just put him in a bunch of zone.

Maybe so, but the passing game has been hot garbage this season, so even against a underwhelming defense, showing the ability to move the ball would be almost impressive.

Even if the Texans were to win a couple more games and ended up with pick #3 again, would that be so bad? They might be forced into drafting the top DL or something this year
Will Anderson could easily end up being the best player in this draft. I actually would really like him to be the top pick because he's so versatile as a pass rusher and is excellent on the run. Two things this defense needs badly, in one player. Kinda hard to see the Texans not getting #1 tho. Go Kyle Allen 🤣

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.

Back when Tampa was getting to SB's, quality zone coverage cornerbacks were drafted in the 3rd round. I hate to think we drafted a guy 3rd overall in the draft to do the same job.

Exactly. You should only draft a corner that high if he's a shutdown, man coverage corner. Drafting a corner that high to run zone is just wasteful.
Somebody has been trying to tell me that Nick Caserio gets who the coaches want.

Does that sound right to you?

I don't GAF at this point about another loss, but I'm going to lose it if I see the Texans getting their asses kicked, and Lovie Smith just standing on the sideline emotionless and petrified. I just want to see Lovie GAF for once. Or at least pretend like he GAF. He injects no enthusiasm into the team culture whatsoever.

Lovie Smith, IMHO, is a dinosaur.
He may (or may not) serve well as a Special Assistant to the HC to keep some of the young men grounded.

I think he can still be a stop-gap DC.
Not brilliant, but temporarily hold down the fort.

Hey, we agree on something. I knew it would happen one day 🤣

I suspect they collaborated on the pick and Lovie seemed very happy with the pick. Either Nick wasted a pick or Lovie is misusing the talent. I'd believe either.
Either way, it's not good.
Doesn't sound like they're aligned like on papers (press conferences and such)

Here is some interesting reading for you.
Texans went with Derek Stingley over Ahmad Gardner due to versatility potential

The Houston Texans had a decision to make at No. 3 overall in Round 1 of the 2022 NFL draft.

With LSU cornerback Derek Stingley and Cincinnati defensive back Ahmad Gardner on the board, Houston would assuredly get a top-flight cornerback to star in coach Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 scheme....
According to Jim Trotter from NFL.com, who joined “The Wheelhouse” on ESPN 97.5 in Houston [KFNC-FM] to talk about what he gleaned from his conversations with Smith about the decision between Stingley and Gardner.
“Yeah, the sense that I got is that both of those are special players that the Texans liked,” Trotter said. “But from my conversations with Lovie about Stingley, he loved the fact that this is a kid that played at an extremely high level, meaning the SEC and played against the top competition week in and week out — and not only week in and week out, but day in and day out in practice when we talk about going against guys like Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall, Justin Jefferson.”

Or you can here it from the horse's mouth

BUENO!
I don’t think it means anything. It’s just a sense I get that I’m looking at a bunch of guys who have a 1-2 year shelf life here before they either fall on their swords or push each other out the door. Rinse and repeat. I haven’t felt like I was looking at a stable organization since Matt Schaub was throwing pick-sixes. They look like the generic NFL version of the Astros under John McMullen. Like they’re the 3rd or 4th most important thing in Cal’s mind. A business he feels just runs itself with minimal input. Caserio is here because the idea of him coming in to fix everything in the front office was “implanted” by O’Brien and Cal has no “next idea”. Lovie is here because Cal wants to make sure. we all know he’s not racist and Lovie’s been to a Super Bowl before (Cal knows that. He looked it up). There’s no plan here though. It’s as random as the hiring of the last guy.

If we are being honest, Lovie was not who Caserio really wanted IMO. At least not for long term.
I never said Caserio got the coach he wanted. He did get the player the coach he had wanted

Just reviewing some stats last night... Kyle Allen's 2019, when he had his shot to start for the Carolina Panthers, season looks pretty similar to what Mills was project to do this year (1:1 TD/INT ratio, yards, completion %, YPC... It's like were replacing Mills with the 2019 version of Mills lol. This should be fun... Maybe Allen holding a clipboard has made him a better QB over the past couple of years, but call me skeptical. More interested to see how long any 'spark' will last.

2019 Panthers had better offensive talent though, with the best pass catching RB in football in McCaffery (caught for over 1000 rec yards as a RB that year!!), DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel and Greg Olsen at TE. I'd imagine the Panthers line was a hell of a lot better also.

Right now, even the McNairs can see that the Texans on field product is unwatchable and is performing at an expansion team level. No sensible fan expected the Texans to have a winning record. However, they did expect to see incremental improvement from coaches and players or get some glimmer of hope from this season.

At this point, besides Pierce, there is nothing about this season that has been fun to watch or given any sense of accomplishment. You don't get style points for losing. However, if starting Allen instead of Mills can give Mills the opportunity to watch and learn from the sidelines or enables fans to watch a team get more than one first down in a half or helps Caserio evaluate the roster, I say make the change.

It won’t, because the playcalling will remain the same. At the very least Pep has no more excuses.

I think he did it on porpoise.

At this point if you want to try anything you may as well. Its the perfect time of the season. Most of tge city isnt watching and those that are no longer care if you win or lose beyond a simple... "Yay! Okay, Im hungry."

If we were to win two more games we will be fortunate to draft in the top 10 because our tie would put us drafting behind all of the other three win teams.

Some nothing to do with this game stuff. I see where Miami is favored by 14 at lot of places. Miami hasn't been a 14 or more point favorite in a football game since 1992.

The Texans have been 14+ point dogs 8 times in their history. The 1st 4 times was between 2002-2005. The last 4 times have been 2021-2022.

Fish fry in Houston or steaks on the grill in Miami? Something tells me the coals and mesquite chips are already hot.
