After 2 utterly wasted years with a high school team on the field week after week for another stinging embarrassment it’s finally time to redo the team top to bottom. Management, coaches, players. All of it. Keep the few guys who might actually belong in the game, trash the coaching staff from Lovie on down, clear out the GM etc, start over.

Meh, hot fries or cold fries.... the product will still be McDonald's next season.

If we move on... hope we get someone better. If not... hope they pull their head out their McBackside.

You can hope they washed their hands.... but it's not likely.

Excellent idea. Who will be doing this? Who will be replacing the management, coaching, players, etc?

Same guy that did it this time you say? What’s the point?

How long should a rebuild take? When did you start counting the Texans rebuild?

You ever play the slots? More times you pull that arm the more likely you’re gonna hit the jackpot
Yeah I have. I didn't care for it the few times I've done it. It was like standing in front of a Coke machine putting quarters in it again and again. Not interesting to me. Oddly enough both times I went I won money. Not much but enough to put tires on my car at the time which was nice but I still got nothing out of it. I get that it's a "blind hog finds a truffle" kind of thing and eventually Cal might just get lucky but I don't think it's much consolation. This kind of thing can take decades and NFL fans go to their retirement in some towns (like this one) waiting for the head numbskull to get get lucky.

Granted what else are you gonna do? We have no control over Cal's choices. Just the "right" to sit back and watch the results play out. If Lovie does worse than the last guy does he get fired this year too? Enquiring minds want to know!

I'm assuming the wised up NFL folk could find a suitable GM to replace the loss farm we took from NE on the idea that he really did great work there. Or, who knows, maybe it's more likely the magic was all BB?

Anyway, starting with GM (again) we at least have a chance. The puddle of mush we've had on the field the last two years does not in any way suggest a credible future.

Get a GM, get a real coach, hire well.

Might work.

I agree with this if you’re convinced those in place will not be able to successfully rebuild this team.

I disagree if you’re just upset about the losing and the poor play. That’s what has to be endured for a rebuild.

I agree with you on a couple of points. There is still 2/3rd of the DW4 ransom remaining. I've seen enough to believe that staying with the status quo is a waste of remaining draft picks from the Watson trade. Average, ordinary, and mediocre would be a high achievement for this current franchise.

Cleaning house, an exorcism by a High Priest, and several strong powerful enemas are the only hope for this franchise. The sooner the better. The McNairs' only hope is to be able to hire a coach with a respectable resume of someone like Luke Fickell if the McNairs don't want an annual battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the Kings of the AFC South cellar for the next decade.

No college coaches. Remember when the Jags last tried that? Or when the Texans last tried that?

No thank you.

It's not about the losing for me but the lack of progression in the players. With good coaching an average player should get better. I just don't see that.

Rebuild this team?

Folks presently in positions demonstrably incapable of "building" anything but crap "ring around the rosy" team. Is self evident. Have you watched the games? Stumbling, bumbling high school football, and not even good HS football.

This is a Marx Bros movie.

Need total revamp by actual pro football people.

I don't post much, but just my opinion, clean sweep from the top down. New owners needed. We're tanking for # 1 in a year when there's no great talent. This franchise has been mediocre from day 1. Time for a complete overhaul. But, Texans fans will continuously have to endure the ineptitude of ownership that's willing to allow the dumpster fire to continue

The Texans are definitely tanking. No question about that. We all understand the Astros tanked for three straight years while stocking and building the juggernaut they became but I think that there are more steps involved than just "sucking for an extended period of time" and that this is where the Texans are going to fail (this time).

First you have to endure the losing. Anybody in pro sports can tank a few years. The next part is you have to draft well. For that to happen requires not only that the talent be available but that you also correctly identify the talent and then develop it. Seems like a lot of steps for an organization that can't seem to stay in step very well. It's all at the top too. Can the Texans owners pick a GM/Coach combo who can take advantage of the tanking and the draft pick windfall from the Watson trade? With that added bunch of picks the Texans would seem to be not just tanking but more like super-tanking. Tons of picks and most of them in great positions. What did Nick do last draft that makes us think he's playing 3D chess against the other GM's with their checkerboards? No telling how drafts are going to turn out this early but he made a lot of us nervous with the 2022 draft. None of that will even matter if the scouts didn't read the talent correctly and if the coaches can't develop the players.

The Texans have already done that. Do you mean do it again?
I agree, that is what is continually happening. With the recent purge of the preacher man we are free of the last stench of BOB. While I question many of the moves Caserio makes, I think he is a good GM overall and one of the few people in the entire organization who knows anything about football. IMO, Nick hasn't been able to hire the head coach he really wants due to various circumstances (Flores) and the owner(s) approval. Although I do question some the coaching candidates he did and did not interview.
I don't think that blowing it up and starting over is going to accelerate the path to a winning organization. However, it's clear that the Lovie/Pep/Mills experiment has not worked and nothing is going to improve unless we do something different.

Right. The Jaguars have had a top 10 pick every year but 1 since 2008 and they’ve had 6 1st round picks in the last 3 years. Where are they at again?

The Astros tank worked because they had people who could identify and develop talent. If the Texans don’t get that, all of these high draft picks during all this losing isn’t going to matter. It’s just going to be J-ville 2.0.

They better have a good coaching staff in mind after the tankage because Lovie Smith and Co are not to be trusted.

I agree up until the gm level. If you want a new hc and new coordinators who are they? Will they be available? Do they want to work here?

If we can't do better then this group, we're just pissing in the wind.

You didn't like his last draft? His first full draft? This is yr 2 of the rebuild with an interim HC. What did fans expect?

You're right though, you can have all of the picks in the world and it won't matter if Caserio doesn't hit on those picks. Caserio has 6 picks in the top 103 picks. He needs to hit on atleast 5 of them. After seeing last years draft I'm confident in his abilities.

If everything goes perfectly, maybe by 2025 they'll get back to where they already were in 2018 when they decided everything needed to be burned to the ground.

It did need to be burnt to the ground after 51-7 and the Clemson trash started doing their thing.

I think things will start to get better in the 2024 season.

I don't have much confidence in Caserio (but would like someone to make the argument that he's done great so far) and I certainly have no confidence in Lovie (great beard but it ends there) or the OC and DC.

Happy to be wrong, of course, but this seems like a team teleported from 15-20 years ago.

Caserio has drafted some talent especially Pierce and on defense, however Pitre and others are not being coached up exactly with this staff.

I didn’t hate the last draft. I just didn’t see it being the amazing ”haul” I was dreaming about. A lot of that is simply a question of time. It’s the first season for those guys and it isn’t even over yet so they’re all making the dumb rookie mistakes right now. I’ve grown to be doubtful where Texans early first rounders are concerned so Stingley has to prove he’s the exception to the Texans rule. Green is playing like a rookie on the line like he is and you know that’s always ugly. Pitre is nice and Pierce is exciting and unexpected. It’s just too soon to know what we have in these guys and the rest of the team is still feces.

So Caserio picks what appear to be good players. His coaching staff remains garbage and they get to shape and mold this talent. I just feel like I’ve seen this same film develop so many times by now. We have the high draft picks on the OL that likely don’t pan out. We have the 4th round or later RB that makes it all look slightly better than it really is at times. We have the defense full of young players who just need some time.

Just feels like an episode I‘ve seen before. It probably will I suppose until it changes and we won’t know when that happens until it does because a rebuild that isn’t coming together looks just like one that is for the first season (or sometimes two).

This draft is supposed to be better than the last one under Casserly.

New HC (Kubiak) that you think was mediocre and Richard Smith as DC.

Mario and Demeco looked like studs right out of the gate.

Spencer, Winston, and OD contributed right away.
Even Lundy passed the test for a 6th rounder.

And the Texans were much worse with the cap situation.

So again for the Tanking Crusade, since we were tanking, why are we talking down coaching and the GM. Since we were tanking the GM and coaching staff did a marvelous job correct? The mission was to lose and that’s exactly what we did. Last year the mission was to acquire the number 1 pick and Culley failed by winning four games in which we got the #3 pick. Lol

They tanked last year so why did they fire Culley? The Astros tanked, why did they fire Bo Porter?

For the millionth time, the players and the coaches aren't the ones out there tanking. They're trying their best to win. It's just that with the way the roster is constructed, their best isn't nearly enough. The players and coaches aren't tanking, although the coaches can influence it if they have orders from above, but it's the guy above, the one putting the roster together, bringing the players he has in, who is tanking.

But as far as coaching goes and why people are down on it is because you can clearly see there isn't much coaching going on. There's no improvement from anybody. Mills wasn't that good to begin with but he has clearly regressed. Pierce was a bright spot, top 5-7 in rushing for most of the season, but as a team the Texans were still mid 20's in rushing. Hell, in 2 games after being called up from the practice squad, Freeman was the Texans 2nd leading rusher for the season. 2 games!! The defense is constantly running themselves out of position to make a play. Never mind that they can't tackle. And none of that has gotten any better the entire season.

If you're thinking they accomplished their tank job, why blame the coaching, just remember who put the coaching staff together as well. Yeah, that same guy who does the roster.

Nope,

Lovie put this coaching staff together.

Caserio put Culley's coaching staff together. Maybe that's why they finished with 4 wins under Culley instead of where they currently are with Lovie's coaching staff.
