Not if he can't figure out what to do with them. A couple more Stingley-type picks and we're going to all be looking back at this era of the Texans with tears in our eyes. Pitre looks like a prize. Stingley looks like this drafts version of "Charles Rogers". Should have taken Sauce.

NC does this too many times and he's going to start looking like Charlie Casserly.
He did fine choosing Pitre. Do you think he used different criteria when choosing Stingley?

Right now they're playing like a 2 to 4 win team this year. They have just enough talent to win a few more than 4, but I don't think they can pull it together enough times to go over 4 wins, there's just to many ifs buts and maybes to fall in place for more than 4 wins this year with their talent level.
I want to see them remain competitive, but wouldn't be upset at all if they could keep the RD1-01 spot. I believe RD1-01 could return a foolish amount of draft capital. Texans are rebuilding and gaining big draft capital in any trade should be seen as a positive.

Theoretically I agree, but being competitive & always losing ruins the psyche. & once that losing psyche becomes team psyche it becomes your culture.

Not only do you have to replace GM & HC, because the team has lost faith in them, you have to cut out the cancer in the locker rooms.

It wasn’t enough to dump Casserly & Capers, Dunta Robinson (who was once good for the team) & the whole “pay me Rick” culture had to go.

We’ve got two years of draft picks that may be ready to turn if they don’t at least start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel

This reminds me of the 2013 Texans that went 2-14. They had playoff expectations and won first two games of season (barely). Then remained competitive in losses the next few weeks. Then had to cut Ed Reed for being a locker room cancer less than halfway through the season. Also around that time Matt Schaub’s arm turned into a useless wet noodle. Foster became injury prone this season as well. Then Kubiak was fired before the season had ended. The team had lost faith and stopped playing hard. Then those “close losses” became beatdowns.

Healthy Watt and AJ had good statistical seasons at least!

Early impressions are the Texans suck. So, what about middle impressions? (We'll get to late impressions later, if anyone is still posting in November.)

Upcoming are the Raiders (loss), the Titans (maybe), Eagles on Thursday night (loss), Giants (loss), then the horribly named Commanders (another maybe). We should get one of those maybe games, might even get two but I wouldn't count on it. Early prognosis for a middle impression is that we'll still suck.

You need to change your name. Unfortunately, Optimistic Texan is already taken... maybe junior?

This is what a rebuilding team looks like. I still think they get 4-5 wins.

I did not know that Stingley had some off-field issues ?

Yep. I had between 4-6 wins, and they might not even make it to 4 this season. Even if they have a late season surge like last year they got three division games and the Cowboys and Chiefs in their last five games. I could see them (maybe) taking two of those division games, the AFCS is back to being a shitpile again. Then they'll have to get at least one from the Commanders, Dolphins or Browns just to make it to 4 wins.

For now, my prediction for the next draft is we'll be drafting 3rd or 4th. There always a team or two that just totally collapses.

I think they beat the Redskins/Jags and pickup a win somewhere else along the way. Of course a win in Vegas could change that number. The schedule is tough.
