Texans random thought of the day

So you've got a case of the red azz because Caserio decided he wants Cooks/Tunsil.to be the veteran leaders of their position groups and restructured them to make sure they would be here for the rebuild. You're really going to be upset when Caserio re-signs Tunsil again.
No, what gave me a case of red azz was the following:

Texans started 2021 season with 54 contracts and $6MM OVER the cap.

If the Texans had made the following moves they would've been $48MM UNDER the cap. They would not of had to resort to mortgaging the future to the tune of OVER $35MM in contract restructuring, $37MM in Dead Cap in 2021 and would've added a 2nd rd draft pick.
B. McKinneyRelease$7.00m
D. JohnsonRelease$6.90m
Z. FultonRelease$3.00m
Du. JohnsonRelease$5.15m
B. DunnRelease$3.25m
B. CooksTrade$12.00m
J. WattRelease$17.50m
Total Saved$54.80m

Plus Culley's $20MM PLUS. Somehow, someway, Caserio's money management style turned a savings of $54MM into DEAD CAP MONEY of $55MM PLUS. Go Figure.

You act like it's your money he's spending
It’s not my money but I agree with Texian on this. Poor money management when you ain’t got none does not inspire confidence knowing you should have a bunch of money in the near future.

Dude, that app is as bad as pay sites. Please, copy & paste the whole article. So we don’t have to download that app.

or please stop sharing here, from that app.

So I'm supposed to stop sharing information because you can't download a free app?

Most links I post are from my cell phone so cannot cut and paste or at least don't know how.

There's a limit to how much a team can rollover, and they can't take it with them. Caserio is trying to build now, the future will take care of itself. I would prefer he spent it wiser, but I'm happy the dead money will be gone after this year and all the terrible contracts are gone... for now

all you have to do is follow the link to the main story and send a link instead of sending a link to just the headline at that app. You do read the story?

I don't ever download the app, just have to click to open another link and get a jumble of more cookies

How much will they be under the cap next season? Is this going to keep Caserio from adding the players he wants to add in both fa/draft? I'm guessing not

I read the story and then go to the share icon and click on it. Offers many options but share link is the only one that seems to apply.

@badboy NVM, JB showed me the error of my ways.

& thank you for sharing. I do appreciate it.
I think you know I'm not trying to be obstinate but I do not see any way in the news break app to copy and paste the article rather than just the link. I would do that if I could. Links you have to pay for irritate me also. I also send articles mostly on non-sports news to friends and they have the same issue. Usually I try to find the same information on a non-news app that allows a person to open it up.

What are your expectations for a team that's really in yr 2 of a rebuild. I like what they've done this off season, but against this schedule I don't expect more than 4-6 wins. Gotta keep realistic expectations.

I don't have any expectations. I just want to be entertained, because that is all this is to me and nothing more.

An expectation is a strong belief that something will happen in the future. Why would I believe anything about this franchise? Why would I spend the mental energy even bothering with it?

I don't mean to be Mr. Reality or anything of the sort. I guess I've just relegated anything and everything related to entertainment diversions to such a low priority that beyond living in the moment, I'm just not going to expect anything from a sports team, an actor, a band, or whatever. If I'm entertained I'll keep watching. If it bores me, I find something else to do.

Will Caserio be able to sign a couple of top tier fa's next off-season. I'm betting he'll find a way to get the guys he wants to bring into the org.

Why are you assuming that. You have to compete for players. Against teams that have as much money or more. What will make the Texans the preferred destination? Their winning tradition?

Texans are expected to have the 5th best cap situation in 2023 and the second best in 2024 according to Sportrac. The Bears are expected to be in the #1 spot both years.

I expect the Texans and Caserio to be in an enviable position to add veteran FA talent to fill some final holes in their quest to get this team and organization rebuilt.

Starting next off-season when the cap goes up due to the new TV deal, cap space won't be an issue.
But Pizz Poor money mangement could still be the same problem it has always been regardless of how high and how much the salary cap is. You used to be so much better at this. It must be the Kool Aid. The Texans have never really had a salary cap problem. They usually have a very bad mindless senseless money management problem.

How much will they be under the cap next season? Is this going to keep Caserio from adding the players he wants to add in both fa/draft? I'm guessing not

I'm not so sure it is the money that will keep big-name FAs from wanting to sign with the Texans. Money may be the least of it. Especially after hearing so many players publicly celebrating their newfound freedom after escaping from Stalag Kirby Drive.

It's not about how much you have, it's about what you do with it. & so far, looks like the Texans are just winging it & throwing money at people that won't be playing for them.

Texans are still trying to field a competitive team. A true core is only now beginning to take shape. It is to be expected, if they’re trying to exceed expectations, that moving players outside their core around to find the best possible fit. I believe the team will begin to rein in their spending after the 2023 draft and focus that money on finding players they don’t need to swap out after a couple days or on the same day. It’s the process of building out from under a really crappy situation and I’m just not going to take a dump on each one of his moves since I’m not on the inside……I’m game to see what’s going to happen.

Who's the capologist for the Texans? Here is the list of employees and duties. In Jack's bio, his role "also includes the oversight of the football operations budget." Where are his bonavides, since he took the lies of being in the Jags salary cap management off his bio. I see nothing in Nick's bio that he worked on cap manangement during his 20 years with the Patriots. Although I did hear him in an interview w=once say that he worked for a year for a securities firm before entering football.

This organization needs a real, honest to God, capologist. Jack and Nick aren't going to get it done. Just like Jack and Bill didn't. There's not even a legitimate argument about this. Stop the Mom & Pop stuff and become a real NFL organization.

Has Caserio not been able to add anybody he's wanted to add to the team at this point of the rebuild? Are they finally going to clear the books of the bad contracts this off-season? Will they have plenty of cap space available next off-season.

Haters gonna hate, meanwhile the much needed rebuild is well under way. 2 more yrs to a complete rebuild with draft picks and quality fa's added.

No surprises here. Cooks and Mills are the leaders on offense. Though if Britt got a vote for “veteran status” it would be similar to Kirksey’s placement imo. Cooks is the top weapon and Mills is QB.

I expect Pitre and Greenard to grow into the captain role on defense possibly as soon as next season.

Hughes is definitely the captain on defense this season. Leads by example and 13 year veteran. Kirksey must be due to veteran status and being a 2nd year for “the rebuild”.

Then there’s Weeks… the longest tenured Texan and mr. automatic.

Here is Cal's response. I still wonder what he was doing on the floor, but I have to give him kudos for his Zelda reference.

Honestly don’t know if I should laugh or cry. “Owner” watching film is like GM wearing headphones.

Honestly, if I’m an owner, I don’t think I’d be watching film like I’m a GM or a HC.

If I feel like I need to watch film, I don’t have the GM or HC I need to move this thing forward. Of course, at the time he had BO’b & Easterby punching above their weight, so it was probably warranted. So… idk

Is it possible that an owner could just want to watch film like thousands of other fans including one or two on this message board?

An owner watching film is trying to understand his business more. You got owners that manage multi billion dollar companies, hedge fund managers, and oil tycoons.

I would want my owner knowing his business better when it could be foreign to them.

And a GM wearing headphones is not wrong. How else will they listen to music while working out?

Sage wasn't with the team in the O'Brien era. And I believe the story was Carr saw Cal sitting on the floor of an empty office other than a big screen TV and a game console. Carr said Cal was alone playing a video game.

Should've had his arse in a chair with Bill Polian in the room explaining the intricacies of, what it means to be an eventual NFL owner who wants to build a winning franchise.
