2022 OTA’s Mini Camp And Pre Season

Keep it Movin!
They're a edge needy team. IMHO

Not just any edge an edge that commands double teams. Preferably 2 of them.
Not arguing, but the Texans seem to have more edge /de players than dt tackle dudes. I like Lopez, always liked Collins, even in Dallas, but who else they got that is proven disruptor?

They need a difference making edge to pair with Collins, opposite Greenard. IMHO

Caserio decided to address this with numbers at the DE position. Of course if you can draft a guy like The Georgia DT you do it and consider yourself lucky.

If they’re going to be cut it would be smart to pick them up off the waiver wire. And trade Blacklock for a 6 or 7 round pick.
You want to make sure you get your guy. Trading Blacklock assures this. Kinda sad that we're talking about this. Looks like another wasted 2nd rd pick.

Not necessarily, and we know they do not think like us. That’s your guy/s. Might not be their guy/s.
I'm not talking about myself or a particular player.

My philosophy is if there's a guy they want that's available. Go get that guy. In this case I'm talking about bottom of the roster guys with potential or a guy that's running 2ndteam that has potential. A guy like Blacklock on the Texans is an example of what I'm talking about. He's a depth guy but could start if injuries hit on a team lacking depth.

LB Christian Harris has missed practices since last week with what has been reported as an "undisclosed lower extremity injury." He in fact is dealing with a hamstring tear.
So our top 4 draft picks are dealing with some kind of injury health issues.

Stingley, Lisfranc
Green, concussion
Harris, hamstring
Metchie, ACL, cancer

Houston Texans training camp: What’s next for healthy Jonathan Greenard after breakthrough season?
Jonathan Greenard had eight sacks last season in just 12 games, and he could be a big factor for the Houston Texans again in 2022.
ByAaron Wilson
August 19, 2022

HOUSTON — Texans defensive end Jonathan Greenard bolted out of his stance, accelerating into the backfield before suddenly stopping his charge to leap into the air to deflect a pass from quarterback Davis Mills, popping the football into the air to himself for an interception.

It was another snapshot of his rare combination of explosiveness and instincts. A year after a breakthrough season and having made a full recovery from offseason foot surgery, Greenard is an emerging dangerous pass rusher with a growing repertoire of pass rushing moves.ave your draft. Save your team. Win money.

Jonathan Greenard wins chess match with repertoire of moves

For Greenard, pass rushing is akin to an ultra-physical chess match. He sets up blockers by varying his moves, body language, and studying their technique. In a memorable sequence last season, Greenard froze his rush for a moment to get an Indianapolis Colts tight end leaning in one direction as he was eager to engage the Texans’ third-year defensive end at the line of scrimmage. Then, Greenard grabbed him by the shoulder pads, slinging him to the ground, and crashed into the Colts’ backfield to hit quarterback Carson Wentz.

“That was all about using his momentum against him,” Greenard told Pro Football Network. “I like to hesitate sometimes, get their feet moving indecisively. Football is mental. You have to be able to use film study and know what they’re going to do. That’s how you win as a pass rusher. You have to use your head, hands, and feet all working together.”

Whether it’s his signature long-arm move, gaining leverage by shoving an offensive tackle backward with a powerful shove of their shoulder pads before disengaging to sack the quarterback, a spin move, bull rush, speed rush, rip move, or swim move, Greenard is a technician who recorded a career-high eight sacks last season in 12 games. Shoulder and foot injuries, unfortunately, sidelined him for five games.

The former third-round draft pick from Florida managed to have nine tackles for loss and 12 quarterback hits in just 52% of the overall defensive snaps.

“Absolutely, that was a great play he made,” Texans coach Lovie Smith said after Greenard’s interception. “But we expect great players to make great plays. Last year, he had limited amount of time on the field, but he was productive, so it’s time for him to take a step. We need a few of our guys to take that next step to where you’re really talking about them, and Jonathan has the ability to do that.

“Jonathan is a legitimate outside defensive end in the league. I’m anxious to see how far he can go. He’s a big part of what we’re going to do this year.”

Greenard credits weight loss to his recovery and significant quickness

Is it possible the last two preseason games were to see what we had in RB? That it was all about RB competition?

We saw Mack and Pierce in the first one and Pierce looked great. Mack as much in the first or second.

The first game wasn’t about seeing what Mills could do. The second it seemed like he was having a poor outing and then the coaches wanted to see him get more reps for one reason or another.

Maybe the third game we see a better offensive game plan to see Mills in a better situation?

Very disappointing video
Aug 21, 2022 Houston Texans Head Coach Lovie Smith and Offensive Coordinator Pep Hamilton are building an offense that will shock the world. Drew Dougherty, Deepi Sidhu and Sean Pendergast discuss the 2022 offense and more.

Good news for those that want to see something closer to regular season play in preseason.
Good for the Niners. What are the Texans plans? I’d like to see, if not the entire starting offense, at least the starting 5 up front, play a couple of series together, at the very least. Yes Laremy, get your ass in a game one freaking time. Thanks.

Playing together for the first time at game speed against the Colts doesn’t seem ideal. Maybe it’s just me.

Don’t care about scores of course, just really want to see the 1’s get up to game speed together one time before the bell rings.

I'm expecting or at least hoping to see our starters, or at least most of them, play at least the first half, maybe into the 3rd quarter.

And see how Mills operates behind the 1st ol.

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
From what I saw it was the three of them talking about what they wanted to happen along with John Harris talking about what happened last year. Neither Smith or Hamilton went into any detail at all
....as I would expect. The Texans have some solid pieces on offense which is why I'm waiting to see them hit the field together and hope that Pep has a plan to make his offense far less predictable than what we've become accustomed to over the past 7 seasons. Would absolutely dig if Pep called a halfback option or flea-flicker on the first play of the season b/c teams have become so sure of a run on 1st down they're stacking the box to jam the run. DC's probably have a run guarantee in their books as a first play of the game at 100%...especially with a shiny new toy like Pierce in the backfield.

I sure hope the stream is good. Some of the NFLs stuff on Yahoo last year was garbage.
Actually the shows on Prime Video are usually very well done. Camera coverage and announcers will decide all. I don't know who the commentators for the preseason games, but for the regular season they have a very good crew

The game will be on Amazon, hmmm interesting.
Probably can catch it on ch. 13

Amazon Prime earned exclusive rights to TNF in a contract with the NFL ahead of the 2022 season. You will need to sign up for the streaming service in order to enjoy the mid-week game as the NFL Network will not simulcast the games. Those in local markets will be able to watch TNF without signing up for Amazon Prime.Jun 7, 2022

I'm talking about the actual stream. The buffering and all that. Yahoo's is usually crap. I like what Prime puts out overall.

I have the Prime Video app on my Tv so never see buffering... guess we'll find out this week how they do live broadcasts and if it's delayed any or not
