PICK A TEXAN TO FOLLOW 2022 D AND O

Select a player you want to focus on and follow this season. One player for each side of line:

Defense difficult as I want to say DE Rasheem Green, LB Christian Harris and S Jalen Pitre.

My choice Rahseem Green across from Greenard should be very impactful.

Offense Howard, Kenyon Green and Dameon Pierce.

My choice Tytus Howard IMO most important concern on line.

Offense- Green/Collins/Pierce/Metchie. If these guys hit the Texans will have a much better offense. I think if he stays healthy Cann will be slightly above avg, which will be a big improvement over Scharping.

Defense- Petrie/Greenard/Green/KGH/Collins/Harris.

I want to focus on Justin Britt. With Cann on one side & Green on the other his PFF score should jump quite a bit.

KGH. He surprised me last season. I'd like to see if he can crank it up another notch.
This is my thinking as well.
If Green is everything as advertised, his injection of talent should lift those on both sides of him and Tunsil should lift him as well.
The center and left side of our line should be excellent this season.

Offense…Mills/Collins connection..usually always is the qb if its someone we’re developing. Im also following Collins. He cane on a little late last year & in interested to see if that carries over.

Defense…Stingley/Harris. Stingley b/c of the obvious…and b/c of his story. Harris, b/c i really like his skill set. I think he could emerge as a key defensive guy for us in the coming years if he can stay healthy and develop. He’s basically a clean slate for Lovie to mold into the LB he wants him to be.

Mills and Pitre.

Mills b/c of his expected growth and/or next step.

Pitre b/c of his versatility and probably plays more defensive snaps than Stingley this season.
I put Stingley because I think his value is more important. A shutdown #1 CB is most valuable role on a defense other than premier pass rusher imo.

But I think Pitre has a better chance to fill up the stat sheet and win DROY. Just like 2nd round pick DeMeco Ryans did back in 06. Though Mario dealt with injury his rookie season, it wouldn’t have mattered because DeMeco filled up the stat sheet.

Mills is the key. If he makes the jump and proves to be the guy this season then the Texans can allocate draft capital to build around him. It would shave at least two seasons off the rebuild. Probably more because we all know finding a QB isn’t guaranteed if they have to keep searching.

The lack of competition brought in shows me they are going to give Mills every chance to be their guy. i hope it works out for him!

Mills' development is important. But I chose Britt. We need to get the OL fixed, we've got to be able to run the ball, whether Mills is the guy or not. Get the OL fixed & if Mills isn't the guy, we'll have a foundation that will help the next guy be the guy.

But I'm going through the last five games & I believe Mills can be our Alex Smith. The Texans need to be looking for his replacement, but they don't have to grasp at every "first round" QB that's touted as the next best thing. Instead, they can patiently wait for the next Rothlisberger, Rogers, Brees, etc...

Agreed, but I think Mills is much better than you give him credit for. If you like him now, then you should really like him in a couple of years. He's played so little football. Good times are ahead.

S Kyle Hamilton.

Wait, what? We didn't draft a generational player when we had a chance? At a position of need.

Many more bone headed decisions like that I will have to change my opinion of our GM.

:coffee:
Perhaps car stereo believes that Derek Stingley is his generational player? Petrie may not be generational but he may be much better than even optimistically some of us expect.

Today I posted in the random Texans thread and articles saying Britt could be cut preseason and if not beat out by Morrissey.

Edit: $4 million dead hit so I'm going with Morrissey is starting but IMO because Britt goes our injured.

with OprimisticTexan on this one 👍

Mills has better protection, running game and receiving options, let’s GO!

Pitre is the type of safety I’ve always wanted Texans to draft in 2nd rd. So much has to align, early 2nd pick/INT and tackling machine (borrowed that one from Cal).

Ummm Offense..... we dont have a pass rush unless we trade for Jay Jay.......... oh i went there! would love to have him back. Even with his old ass love watching him.

Anyone have changes after the third preseason game? I still like both of my guys but saw nothing of Howard and little of Rasheem green.

I’m following them all but to play along.
Pierce
Pitre
Lol, no need to follow players who are going to stick out even if you close your eyes and put your fingers in your ears. Those guys are studs. 🫣 D is hard but I’d say Harris because Lovie thinks he’s a perfect fit for his schemes. On O I’d say Mack only because Pierce will make a second stud RB even more valuable And necessary.

I’m going to hopefully be watching Quesenberry. I thought he played very well Thursday night with the first team. I can’t remember being so impressed by our Center in the last 4 or 5 years.

of course he had Green to his left & Cann on his right which none of our starting Centers have had in that time. But they put Morrisey into that same lineup & to me it was night & day (& I was rooting for Morrisey).

Defensively I’m going to be looking at the DL rotation. If I have to pick a name I’m picking Booker. I want to see penetration & relentless hustle to the whistle. Lovie wants to generate pressure with his front four. QBs can’t be “stepping up” & “camping out” because we aren’t getting push in the middle. When the ends move the QB off his spot, he needs to “be in trouble” regardless which way he decides to go.
