Hindsight 2022 Draft Doover

Texansphan

Football connoisseur
Rules are simple;
You cannot take a player already off the board.
You can only take 9 players.
You can use trades already made by Texans.
This will make it easier for you.
This is my Doover.
#3. Evan Neal OT. Best OT in the draft.
#15. Kenyon Green. Best Guard in the draft.
Note: This is a serious attempt to upgrade the Oline and give Mills every chance to show what he's got. I doubt Stingley is still on the board at this point so Green stays.
#37. Jalen Pitre S. Hamilton is off the board but Pitre is next best on the scale.
#44. Josh Pascal Edge. An upgrade for our pass rush.
#75. John Metchie III WR. Yes, I think he lasts this long.
#107. Dameon Pierce RB. A steal! More help for Mills.
#150. Zyon McCollum DB. Let's see if he sticks.
#170. Teagan Quitoriano. TE. Blocker.
#205. Austin Deculus. OL. Giant space eater.

Here's your chance to put your thoughts out there.

woulda coulda shoulda

I wouldn't have taken Stingley in that #3 spot, but it's what happened. Hopefully it works out and Stingley gets past his injury issues. Hopefully.
Perhaps FO knows more than we do.
Makes you wonder how high other teams ranked him on their boards.

Stingley was without a doubt a top 10 pick, at least I would imagine that would be the case. He has tremendous talent to go with that injury history, so he would have gone early.
Agree. That sort of natural talent can't be taught.
It would be interesting to know just how high teams would have taken him.

The Texans could have had any prospect in the entire 2022 Draft, except for two players, with their #3 overall pick
so certainly the FO should have damn sure known far more about the expectations of Stingleys complete recovery from his injuries than we do.

I would have picked

Jelani Woods at #44

Master Teague at 170

Everything else would stay the same.

I think they know they have two starting tackles & a good third in Charlie Heck. Why would they draft Neal at 3 overall?

if you thought like they do & not taking a Tackle, who would you take at 3?

Without knowing the full story on Stingley, I would have shied away from him and gone Sauce. But I would have wanted to know the whole of it before passing on him.

However, having Neal on board now gives him time to fully adjust to the NFL and our system so that gives you options for this and next season.
RT or Guard for now.

Well you know I would have selected Sauce #3 overall. Realize he is polarizing prospect to some, but damn it, don’t we deserve some Sauce and what he would bring to this city/organization?

Wouldn’t change Kenyon or Jalen picks.

stick and pick
#68 Chad Muma LB
#75 Travis Jones DT
#107 Daniel Faalele OT
#108 (original Texan pick swapped with Cleveland) Zamir White RB
#150 Thomas Booker - love pick but took Jones earlier so change to Kyle Phillips WR (slot receiver like Menchie)
#170 Justin Shaffer OG
#205 Derion Kendrick CB

I wonder if any of these would change if you had some kind of personal contact with all the players you were interested in

That, we will never know. Suspect that comment mostly focuses on Stingley/Gardner? But they have to factor in injury risk more and ceiling over any personality discomfort.

This is something that will never change. BTW, The Charges are going to be very happy they got Zion and Salyer.

No, not specifically on Stingley/Gardner. Moreso Harris & Metchie. Like all the draft picks the Texans met with them & decided there was something that set them apart.

We could be witnessing the transformation of not only Safety/Slot CB position but premium OG’s (Kenyon Green included) who can kick outside and dominant or least hold their own @ Tackle Position. These quote: “OG’s”combined w/franchise QB, will keep rising up draft boards, when available. Although I see Zion kicking inside and becoming dominant Pro-bowl Center post Linsley.

Just for fun

3. Sauce 13 Zion 37 Pitre
68 Sam Williams 80 Petit-frere 107 Pierce 108 Tariq Woolen.

Harris & Metchie have that Saban/Alabama vibe. Believe Caserio got to know Nick Sabin early on while working under Belichick so there is that comfort level too. All Pro teams have their preferred contacts, looks like Texans are “all in” on Alabama prospects as long as Nick & Nick are around.

I will play along and fix the offense for the next few years in the process

Rd.1 Neal
Rd.1 Green
Rd.2 Woods
Rd.2 Metchie
Rd.3 Harris
Rd.4 Pierce
Rd.5 Woolen
Rd.6 Harvell-Peel
Rd.6 Teague.

I did this off of the top of my head and didn't check for rds after trades.

They may be all in on the sec in general by the looks of it..

And I can't say that I'd be at all bothered by it.

If they had taken Neal (in Off the Sauce Mock) that would have been the trifecta. Better believe he was in their discussions.

003 - Sauce Gardner
015 - Trevor Penning
037 - Jalen Pitre
044 - Alec Pierce
075 - Leo Chenal (I have wager on him at 80:1 for DROY)
107 - Charlie Kolar
150 - Thomas Booker
170 - Malcom Rodriguez
205 - Isaih Pacheco

Good stuff

I like Harris more than Chenal. Totally different kind of LB's though.

Sauce…..this really hurts me. Rough around the edges, terror on the outside and opportunistic everywhere else. Him and Keyvon, two most dynamic playmakers.

Yeah, phillips was my dude too

Alabama offensive players have worked out better than the defensive drafted players. I mean between the ol prospects and some of the dl prospects, there have been alot of average dudes drafted high.

I'll forward that to beerlover..

That’s like opening up Pandora’s box.

caserio/smith is interesting pairing. Years of doing things Patriot way and vetted coaching experience.

I’m uncomfortable cozying up to Sabin, but Staley is tight with Kirby Smart so alliances are necessary evil to be sure your getting pick/player exactly right.

Doubt it matters which side of the ball each should be evaluated on own merits. Both programs (Alabama/Georgia) take cream of the crop to come play in best pro system that transcends to the NFL.

Do like direction @ College Station is headed with Jimbo Fisher (on par) with bit better value as possible alternative but later rounds diamonds in the rough can even come out of the Cincinnati’s.
