Saw this article and thought it would be interesting to see how you feel. Are you in agreement with the author, close or different league all together?

Personally I think we should be in the late 20's. We didn't become SB contenders in one draft. However, I would like to think that we have pieces in place to finish with say 6-7 wins. And someone is going to be in that 5 and below area. So, if I have to pick...27th. That's my ranking for 2022.

They're a 6 win football team which puts them in the lower 3rd probably. I think ATL is probably going to be the worse team in the nfl. Seattle, given their division is a close 2nd. If Jacksonville wins more than Houston and Lawrence gets it figured out, Its going to be a long ,long season for Texans.

We're still better than Lions I feel too.
I can see NO sliding down a bit as well but probably still a little better than Texans. Arizona may slide and so might the Browns again.
If Texans can win 5-6, we will be around 25-26 range. I can see a lot of congestion at the bottom with no teams losing more than 3.

5-6 wins will probably put them picking in the 7-12 range.

They could win more depending on their health and the teams they play health.

Browns ain't sliding. Lions were more competitive than Texans last year. Bears mights be pretty bad again also.

Every year, long haul truckers vote on which states have the best roads, which states have had the most improvement, etc. And one year when I was living in Pennsylvania, it made the news that the truckers had voted the roads in Pennsylvania as the most improved roads for the second year in a row... and had still voted the roads in Pennsylvania as the worst in the US.

We were seen as one of the worst teams in the league last year, especially at the beginning of the season. I can easily see someone, anyone, seeing us as improving and having a good draft, but still having us as the worst team in the league.

I mean, honestly, we're not a great team right now. Until we show something on the field and string some wins together, we are one of the worst teams in the league.
 
Last season the Texans not only had a terrible record (4-13) but they we not even competitive in most games. They were outscored 452 to 280.

Besides their wins they only had 3 one score games.
Jets 21-14
Patriots 25-22
Titans 28-25

All other games they lost by 2 or more scores. In 5 games they looked like children playing men.
Bills - Loss - Score 40-0
Colts - Loss - Score 31-0
Colts - Loss - Score 31-3
Cardinals - Loss - Score 31-5
Seahawks - Loss - Score 33-13

For anybody to expect one draft to turn this team into a winner they are really living a pipe dream.

Having said that I'm still optimistic about the direction Caserio & our coaching staff seem to be taking the Texans. I don't expect a lot more wins but I do hope to see us still in the game in the fourth quarter more often than not. If that happens I would consider this season to be a huge step in the right direction.

I agree with most of this. But it isn't just 1 draft. It's a new coaching staff, offensive scheme, culture and a QB who is not a rookie. Not to mention all the negativity from the elephant not in the room named Watson.
I don't know that we will win more games than last year, but I do think we will be a better team.

That's why I am sticking with around #27. Better than the bottom teams who I can't really pick seeing an 11+ win team could be a 4 win this season. But we can get 5-7 wins and we will be better overall even if the wins don't say so. After next year's FAs and draft I'm confident that we move to the mid level of say 15...and the season will show if we are better than that.

Do you consider the Lions being one of those bottom teams you think we’ll be better than? I mean the Texans had 3 losses within 1 score last year, the Lions had 6 and a tie.

I know this probably won't move the needle for some people, but we didn't have Tunsil at LT for the majority of the season. If this O-line says relatively healthy, I think they're going to be a much better team.
 
Fans have to be objective and understand that a 4 win team, with the lack of talent like the Texans, is not going to change things in one year, or even two. This is a 4-5 year rebuild.

I'm not saying they can't be competitive and even win more games than expected, but to be a playoff team - especially in the QB loaded AFC right now - is going to take a LOT more talent than the Texans have in the 2022 season.

First things first, the 2022 season has to be about analyzing Davis Mills to see if he's a viable option for 2023 and beyond. If not, then it's obvious what needs to be done. I just hope he's not a QB like Cousins that shows enough promise to justify keeping him but has a ceiling that is only high enough to get the team to the playoffs.

They're 4-15 in the last 19 games he has played.

I actually really like our draft, think we addressed every need and had some options lined up to tide us over on the edge.

I love Stingley if he’s healthy, and a truly great CB is something we haven’t had.

Not much, but I’d give him the edge over Mills at the moment. I mean, he’s not so horrible that he can’t go to the SB with a good team around him. Not saying he has that in Detroit but neither does Mills.

I think an o-line pushing defenders off the line makes the team better. Healthy or not there hasn’t been a lot of that the last couple of years or so.
 
Didn't the Texans go into last season with like 127 new free agents and draft picks ??
Seriously, that was a patchwork team if I ever saw one and their record reflected that.

Fast forward to the 2022 season and things are a little different.
I thought the front end of the Texans draft was solid to continue to build.

My Bengals were the worst team in the league and got lucky in sucking when Burrow entered the draft.
Then Burrow gets hurt and we lose enough games that put us in reach of taking Chase. Lucky again.
However, it can't be forgotten that Burrow's hands were too small, his knee was imploded, and Chase couldn't catch an NFL ball.
Couple those things with what was a tough schedule in the beginning and most were calling for 6-8 wins.

My point is that you just never know how things are going to shake out.
Well except for the 2021 Texans, you just KNEW they were going to suck.
We were rooting for them then and will be rooting for them this year as well.

I'm really most excited about continuity with a good coaching staff

Culley & Kelly hurt a bit. Big 0 for offensive development other than Mills, who I give Pep Hamilton the credit for.

Spot the freak on. I’ve seen it both ways. Teams that looked to be heading in the right direction aka Jaguars for example. I remember when one particular member was always giving them high praise. They drafted in the top 5 a bunch. Brought in good free agents. Only to have one darn good season. I watched your team go from the bottom to the top in one season. I’ve watched my team fall completely out of grace after a really bad playoffs loss.

I don’t feel they slighted Houston. They should be forecasted at the bottom of the barrel. I like our draft, new coaching staff and look forward to see how the next few years shape up after the dismantling setback BOB put on the franchise. While they had a decent draft, they are still at the bottom of the league. The Jets and Giants had a great draft and I feel they will rise. Jacksonville will be much better. Urban Meyer singlehandedly caused the 2021 Jags and Doug Peterson should make a huge difference there, enough to give Houston trouble. Houston and Detroit will likely compete for the 1st pick, which is fine with me. They can’t possibly turn it around in one draft, especially one counting on some injury questions to prove favorably.
Additionally, the Browns will likely be worse, especially if they offload Mayfield and if Watson doesn’t play the first half of the season(if, if).

I see potential that Houston has a pair of top 10 picks in the 2023 draft, one of them being at least a top 3.

Why should they be graded at the bottom of the barrel? They finished near, but not at the bottom last season while 3 others were worse. If these pundits are basing it solely on a bunch of rookie draft selections, it ain't worth the paper it's written on or the keystrokes they invested.

Because they out played their talent level last yr. They're depending on 5-6 rookies to contribute immediately and their will be pitfalls. Plus the schedule will be much tougher.

With that said I expect 5-6 wins.

I expect 5 -7 wins, but we're close. If Stingley actually plays full time, that win total could increase by a game or two on just that alone. We lost a couple games last year that obviously we could have won but for the defense.

I may be overly optimistic, but I think Mills will continue to progress and with the aid of a better Oline (and defense) and run game, that should offset the fact there is more tape on him now.
I am thinking like you, at least 5 games.
That should put us around 25-27th range.

Oh, you disagree with the Power rankings having Houston last. Me too, but it’s not like the Texans are mistakenly bad. They earned skepticism, so I’ll go easy on the pundits.

As for bottom of the barrel, I don’t see much difference in dead last vs one of the worst 5. If I’m at a restaurant, I’m not eating from that end of the buffet.

All said, I suspect with regards to the draft, while the Texans got better, so did most teams with a top 10 pick. The real difference this year will come from the coaching staff. For the first time in years, we have NFL caliber coaching. Now the team can rebuild and take on an identity, something that was stripped of them over the past few seasons. Hopefully Lovie can set that right. But they can’t talk about it. They have to do it. That’s where respect gets earned.

Until they get righted, they will get slighted.

Not just draft picks.
New coaches, new scheme and also FAs.

This is why I had them winning 5-6 games. This is a building project and after seeing the Chargers game I'm on board.

So what made us drop from 3rd worst to the worst?
The last coach we had was a first time, inexperienced HC.
And we kept the best FAs from last year and added more with upside this year.
Plus our QB clearly demonstrated he is no monkey.
So again, why should we be ranked worst?
Btw, my comment about rookies was based on the fact that all teams added rookies.
