Welcome to Houston Dameon Pierce

All Pro
He also benched 400 and squatted 700 pounds

Overall pick number: 107
NFL.com rating: 6.19 (good backup with the potential to develop into starter)
It's a fun afternoon of tape study watching Pierce play the game like a coiled spring ready to explode on each snap. He's an urgent runner with twitchy downfield burst, tackle-breaking leg drive and outstanding balance through contact. He reads and reacts to block development quickly and creates additional yardage with both power and subtle shiftiness. Pierce was highly productive (16 total touchdowns) in 2021 despite an embarrassingly low usage rate by the coaching staff. He has plenty of tread left on the tires and fits into any run-blocking scheme as a quality future starter or member of a RB tandem.
ESPN ranking: 96
Pierce is a one-cut downhill runner with good contact balance and finishing power. Nine of his 13 rushing touchdowns in 2021 came in goal-to-go situations, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He's a natural hands catcher with the potential to develop into a reliable safety valve. He runs with outstanding effort, rarely fumbles and is willing to stick his face in the fan as a blocker.
PFF ranking: 95
Pierce may not have handled a massive workload in college, but the man was as effective as it gets when he did touch the ball. His 93.5 rushing grade led the FBS in 2021, and he broke 39 tackles on 100 attempts.

Spiller has had his own set of problems. His recent injuries have not been well reported............toe, ankle, hamstring and abdominal tear........the last 2 were responsible for his poor showing at the combine. Besides this, his fumbilitis is a definite concern.

And on top of that he’s a tall, heavy back with a lot of wear.
I like him, but not as a full time RB.

He's been dealing with a significant high ankle sprain since the Orange Bowl. A bad injury for any player, but worse for a running back. Nearly one in 10 (9.8%) of high ankle sprains are recurrent injuries; this is comparable to the recurrence rate of lateral ankle sprains (11.9%) in collegiate athletes.

Furthermore, beyond the initial participation restriction time from sport and the likelihood for increased risk of recurrent injury, the long-term consequences of ankle injury can be debilitating. There is an increased risk of osteoarthritis and post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) following acute joint injuries, and these findings hold true following ankle sprains, as well. One study estimated 79.5% of individuals with ankle OA developed the condition following an acute injury, and specifically 10% of these individuals developed ankle PTOA following an ankle sprain. The risk of developing PTOA is even greater following high ankle sprains compared with lateral or medial ankle sprains.

It is also known that PTOA develops earlier in younger athletes that have sustained injury than in older athletes.

Pierce is a team first RB that can do everything well including blocking. His best football is yet to come. I suspect the Texans will feed him more than Florida did and allow him to show off his talents. This year’s starting RB who runs, catches and blocks ANGRY!
Lovie said he wants a bell cow, well there we have it. If Mack stays healthy and produces like he did in Indy. The youngster will have to battle Burkhead for playing time.

Great pick built like a slightly bigger MJD. Needs a bit of work to really help his start and stop ability. Past that he could be a 3 down back. However, he has been a lead back in a stable thus far. IF he can fix the few issues he has he could be a steal

So the File clerk is fooling the kool aid brigade with a pick they could have had in the seventh if they traded back to get him. Just another FUBAR by the file clerk. Eliot Wolf would have gotten him as a UDFA.
Not really he is pretty good. Trading up to be safe isn't a bad move. He was rated a 3rd by some and a 2nd by a few. Mostly 3 to 5.
