The one OL you don’t want

You know Thibodeaux has been ranked at #1 on many boards at various times and is still there on some?
I haven't seen Thibodeaux rated #1 on any board since the college season ended...

Weaknesses
  • Not a natural or instinctive pass rusher.
  • Not as bendy or fluid as teams would like.
  • Needs to be schooled up in hand usage.
  • Underdeveloped counters to keep rush alive versus quality tackles.
  • Lacks awareness and play recognition.
  • Needs to play with better control and shed timing at the point of attack.
  • Still has technique work in front of him as edge-setter.
  • Can be a little disjointed and tall as a tackler.

I want no part of him at #3

He’s right he sounds like Clowney 2.0!

At some points Kinnard was rated as a 1st round pick. Even though I don't want Kinnard, after his performance at the Senior Bowl, I think he has been rated as low as the 4th. One that is still rated in the 1st round that I don't want is C Tyler Linderbaum. Don't get me wrong, I like Linderbaum, and wanted him when I thought we would be going to a ZBS, but he just doesn't fit with the style of offense Pep said he wants to run.

Linderbaum’s “best fit” may be a Kubiak-esque ZBS offense. But he is a talent that would excel in any scheme. If the coaches figure out how to make him look bad then we need new coaches.

I think Kinnard will look really good at RG. I hope if Caserio can't get Salyer at 3-68, then Kinnard falls to 4-107.

Of all the OLmen projected to be selected in the 1st round, which one do you absolutely do not want & why?

Trevor Penning
  • stiff as a board
  • penalty machine
  • one trick pony
  • will get overdrafted
  • 17. Los Angeles Chargers: Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

The Chargers drafted a foundational piece on offense last year with Rashawn Slater at left tackle. They might be able to do it again at right tackle with Penning, who will compete for the starting job from day one and could also provide depth at guard if needed.

Ekwonu

After oKoye I hope they never pick another Ngerian high.

Ekonu has the same background as oKoye had, from a family of Nigerian doctors.
Mr. Tex

You can choose to learn from history or ignore it.

I bet given his background, he doesn't play more than his 1st contract due to concussion concerns.

this is the most blatant, racist post ive ever seen on this board. WTH mods?

This has nothing to do with his race.

It has to do with his background. Family of doctors, he's got the same background as oKoye.

Read my above post.

Although I'm not really surprised by you playing the race card.

Lovie is not selecting these picks. It will be a group effort between Caserio, Pep and himself.

I'm thinking of the draft is mainly defense Lovie will have had sway.

I'm hoping of they don't draft Neal, they go defense in rds 1-2 then all offense, depending on how the board falls.

So if they do as you’re saying,

go defense in rds 1-2 then all offense, depending on how the board falls.

Then Lovie had sway?

lol, you couldn’t have picked a worse line to drive your post on. ”history” tells us that that kind of thinking contained in that post of yours is rampant in the NFL …..and the world in general.

Bet you he doesn't play more than 5 years.

Bet you he doesn't play more than 5 years.

Can you explain the difference between Nigerian doctors and other doctors? What’s your sample size of NFL players whose parents are doctors? Are the careers of these players shorter than the average player’s career?

If you can’t answer any of these questions, can you answer this:

Is it possible for you to stop pulling stuff out of your arse?

Stiff as a board ?? I'll bet his girlfriend/wife doesn't see that as a negative ! I would love to have him at RT. If he's gonna be over drafted .... let us show our courage .... or would you rather have Titus Howard there .... now there's some energetic play ! Seriously, he can be taught to throttle it back. Enthusiasm is often the root of momentum !

It's possible for me to say I don't want him because I think he will have a short career.

Whether you want to admit it or not there are parallels between him and oKoye. Am I not allowed to have an opinion on who I would pass on and why? Isn't that what the OP wanted? I gave my opinion and whether you think so or not it's my opinion.

Yeah & it'll all be because his parents were Nigerian doctors ..........nothing to do with the average career length of an NFL football player being 3.5 years :ok:
I don't want to draft a guy who likely only plays 5 years with a high pick

You apparently do and that's fine.

Whether you want to admit it or not there are parallels between him and oKoye.
No. There are no parallels. None. ZeropointZero. Your sample size is two. Like, one + one equals two. You can't make any logical inference from that. Not to mention, Okoye had a brain disease that wasn't related to football. And get this. He tried to come back and play after he recovered. Okoye's parents didn't stop Okoye from playing. His ability stopped him from playing.

Can you see that know? Your opinion is based on jack.

Bottom line is I'm not drafting Icky.

If you want them to then fine. Be prepared to suffer the consequences. If Caserio drafts him I will root for him, but I hope it doesn't happen.

Not wanting the player isn't the actual issue. Your reasoning of country of origin and career of the parents is what makes no sense.

Icky is the type of tackle prospect that Lovie has stated that he likes at least based on the traits. Long armed athletic bruiser in run blocking.

He is not going to be who I want them to target either. I would really like to see Thibideaux actually or hope that the Giants want to leap frog the Jets so we can pick up a few more picks.

The Giants 3rd rounders as well as their 4th is the value of that move up from 5 to 3. Those would make good picks to move back up with.

Like I said, I just answered the OP's question. Feel free to disagree. Bet he doesn't play more than 5 yrs and if he does I will be shocked. I'm certainly not willing to risk the 3rd pick in the draft after the experience with oKoYe. Is this fair to Ickey? nope, but I'm not spending the #3 pick or any high pick on him. If he's there in the 3rd I would consider Ickey worth the risk. This is the old burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me.

This doesn't even take into account his on field balance issues.

The only on-field balance issues will be from the defensive players who get in front him

Here are Ekwonu's weaknesses as cataloged by Lance Zierlein at NFL.com

Weaknesses
  • Fierce but a little out of control.
  • Still plenty of work needed in pass protection.
  • Hasn't been able to pair his hands and feet.
  • Punch timing and approach is a work in progress.
  • Carries weight too far outside in pass slides.
  • Stalls feet through the punch, creating outside access.
  • Needs better knee bend on the move and through contact.
  • Inconsistent hand placement in both run and pass.
  • Lacks consistent fluidity working his combo blocks.
All of these weaknesses can by eliminated through coaching. I am a Neal #1 and Okwonu #2 guy. But with the Tunsil extension, I am okay with Okwonu. He'll have time to work on these issues while playing a Pro Bowl level OG until Laremy moves on.

Lance catagorizes every little nuance you can imagine, often with his own quirky, undecipherable descriptions, making even the good prospects look iffy.
A lot of the issues he mentions can be, like you say, coached up.

Looks like a project to me.

Don't want at #3

Or he just gives his opinions.

That’s a legitimate take. Though I would say that every OT in this draft is somewhat of a project and needs coaching on the next level.
When was the last time an OT came out and was considered a success his rookie year?

hmmmmm other than that he’s worth a three

2 guys I would not draft tyler linderbaum & Daniel Faalele, both size concerns, too small and too big. I like Kinnard and Luke Goedeke. Can Kinnard play left guard and Goedeke play right? No idea how to determine where they fit at the guards position.
Kinnard has never played anywhere except RT. Moving inside to RG is an easy transition, but OL'men will tell you moving to the opposite side can be a difficult transition.
