A position of need indeed. But I'm not sure I like the direction he has taken in the past 2 seasons. He has been plagued with a number of aggravating injuries during that period. In 2020, Nelson's opposing passer rating jumped from 65.8 to 97.0. It jumped again to 108.4 in 2021. If he can turn back the clock to pre 2020 performance, he could definitely fulfill that need. If not, a scarecrow might have done as well......and done it cheaper.

I’m interested in the guaranteed money. A rare 2 year deal though. Does not mean CB is off the list or any less of a need. But i’d rather have Nelson as a starting CB than Hargreaves or Terrence Mitchell.

Well, if he has a history of injuries why wouldn't the Texans sign him? It's what they do.
 
Looked up Nelson’s scouting report coming out of college. First thing LZ says is, “Nelson is tailor-made for Tampa 2 scheme”. Makes me wonder why he performed poorly last season. I suspected it was due to a more zone heavy scheme but maybe injury and not joining a team until later in offseason had something to do with it? At any rate I hope we see the best version of Nelson. 2 years 10 million is relatively cheap to get a CB who has been starting on playoff teams the majority of his career.


Overview
Nelson is tailor-made for the Tampa-2 scheme. An aggressive, physical player in run support who can also limit yards after catch underneath, Nelson does his best work in off coverage. As long as he can keep everything in front of him, Nelson should be able to compete for a starting spot in the league.
 
Brandin Cooks' two-year, $39.764 million extension includes $36 million guaranteed with a $16 million signing bonus, base salaries of $2M (gtd), $18M (gtd), $13M (non gtd). He has annual $29,411 per game active roster bonus, up to $500K annually. Over the entire three years of the deal: $53.5 million, has a $3M roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2024 league year

Team can cut him next offseason for nearly 4 million cap savings if he doesn’t work out. Nice contract for a starting CB.

Moreland had been dealing with foot problems since 2019. Last year he was picked up after being waive/injured for an "undisclosed" injury. That injury was actually a foot injury again. It dogged him through most of the season, but not listed on the Injury Report until Dec. The multiple listings of "illness" in Oct and Dec and Jan appeared to coincide with maskings of the same foot problem.

Loved Jimmy F'n Moreland coming out of the draft.

Foot injuries for a CB, particularly a slot CB is a death knell in my uneducated opinion.

The Texans kicked off the week by welcoming a new tight end to the roster.
The team announced the signing of Darrell Daniels on Monday afternoon. No terms of the deal were announced.
Daniels signed with the Colts after going undrafted in 2017 and played 12 games as a rookie before being traded to the Seahawks in 2018. He played nine games for Seattle before going on waivers and being claimed by the Cardinals.
Daniels stayed in Arizona through last season and played 40 games for the Cardinals overall. He has 13 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown over his entire career.
Antony Auclair, Pharaoh Brown, Seth Green, Brevin Jordan, and Teagan Quitoriano are the other tight ends in Houston.

34.5” arms 10.25” hands. Ran a 4.55 40 coming out of college. Has spent the last four seasons on Cardinals roster mainly as a blocking specialist/ST player. Honest competition for the rookie Quitoriano to earn his spot in camp. More of a Frank Ross pickup than offense imo. Any UDFA that can stick around on the same team for three seasons and has been in the league for five deserves consideration.

 
Darrell Daniels since 2017 has been nothing but a sporadic backup. The reason is simple, THROUGHOUT ALL of his years in the NFL, he has been majorly dealing with chronic recurrent hamstring and chronic recurrent high ankle injuries (not to even mention his other sporadic injuries). I would not think he is going to be depended on for any significant contribution.

I look at him as nothing more than a camp body. My first thoughts when I saw the signing was that he would only be on the roster until someone better became available. I think it's going to be a constant carousel of players at the bottom end of the roster until they find someone that sticks.

Hard to say. Kind of reminds me of the Pharoah Brown situation, where je came here, we thought, primarily as a blocking TE. & he did a good job blocking when he first got here.

Then he got involved in the passing game & looked to be a nice surprise.

Then every aspect of his game broke down to where we're all surprised he's still on the roster.

So now we have Austin Auclair. Similar situation to Daniels. Similar situation to Brown.

So we're seeing something they like in these guys that just haven't worked out yet...

Good size/measurables. Former 3rd round pick and 16 game starter last season added to the CB room which is imo the strongest unit on the team. There will be players cut from Texans CB unit in training camp that will be picked up via waivers by another team. Second Falcons CB signed by Texans with Sheffield being the first. Good to see added insurance for Stingley not making a full recovery and not just handing CB2 job over to any one player.
