Welcome to Houston Jack Easterby

Sure they do

Do you remember all of the whining and complaining that went on when Jimmy Johnson took over the Cowboys? Or when Parcells took over just about anywhere he went?
Complaining because it's hard or different is completely different than saying there is a systematic problem within the organization.

Amazing that instead of taking what our greatest player of all time, who never caused a lick of problems, at his word, you find a way to devalue and criticize him and defend the organization. Blows my mind. Andre Johnson leaving is irrelevant to his quote. Many former players have spoken out (although not naming Jack by name) about how this organization is run currently. We never had this problem before Jack came to town with players running their mouth about the organization as a whole.
Also, Johnson can be correct about Easterby and it has nothing to do with how he feels about Watson. When you consider Easterby was involved with contract negotiations, the draft, the point man on Watson's contract negotiations and the interim GM. Looking at Andre's viewpoint, what did he say that was incorrect or deserved criticism? Who disagrees with his comments?

The same question could be asked about Derrick, what good has happened to this franchise since he joined it?

Out of curiosity. Based on the numerous posts regarding Easterby's involvement in the HC search. Where do posters stand on Easterby's influence on Kirby? Too much or no influence?

Read The Pencil Neck's post above for my response.

My take is just him being in the building is too much influence. And, the three interviews of an unqualified backup QB for the head coach vacancy tells me that he most likely still has too much influence. IMO, of course.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers around here by being critical of this wonderful human being, so I'll just leave it at that and I'm glad Lovie seems like the kind of head coach that won't be putting too much stock in what this dude has to say about running a football team.

I don't think Easterby has any influence at all. I think Caserio & Cal think just like him, so it doesn't matter if he's in the building or not

They're just going to have to get Georgia Frontiere lucky. We've got our Vermeil, let's just hope Mills did some shelf stocking in the recent pass.

I don’t know how much influence he has now. All I know is the influence he’s already had in helping bring this franchise down to the depths it’s currently in, and for some reason he’s still in the building.

The Josh McCown stuff is just strange. To have this guy being interviewed 3 times for the HC position ... if that’s not the Pastor’s influence then it means somebody else in that building had that idea, and that’s just as bad. And if not for Flores throwing a wrench into the mix, could have been really bad.

I’m a little encouraged that McCown didn’t even make the staff. That either means the Pastor’s influence is fading, or McCown is just a douche that won’t accept any job that isn’t HC despite having zero coaching experience, and doesn’t appear to be willing to get any.

I’m with DB, him just being in the building is too much influence. I mean, even if Caserio is calling all the shots now, the Pastor did intervene to bring him here. And so far, I don’t have all that much trust in him either.

Exactly what did Easterby do to bring this franchise down?

I'm agnostic. I have no idea if he really has any influence or not, if he does how much it might be, or whether said influence is positive or negative.
Jack Easterby was hired by the Texans in April 2019 as executive vice president of team development. The only executive vice president of team development in the NFL, at the time. In January 2020, Easterby was promoted to executive vice president of football operations. Presumably because he did such a great job developing the team. In October 2020, Easterby was given the interim GM title after Bill O'Brien's departure.

At any time during Easterby's tenure, have the Texans trended upward as an organization? He's listed as 2nd on the Football Operations org chart on HoustonTexans.com. So it seems pretty clear that Easterby has had some influence in the past 3 years. How much? Well, his good friend became GM of the team last year. Many front office and support personnel have been replaced under his watch. From his bio on the team website, "Easterby manages all football operations and directs the overall culture of the organization."

Let's just stop pretending that Easterby is some hanger on lackey. He may not be all that is wrong with this organization. But he's a part of it.

I don't think you can make that assertion. In the Texans 20+ years of existence, at no point have they ever "trended upward" & actually undergone a concerted effort to build or rebuild up to something like they are about to undergo now. Our "success" was mostly a guy getting lucky after spinning his wheels in mediocrity the 5 years prior & another guy who just kept putting bandaid after bandaid to patch up leaks that started to spring from that same 2011 core of a team.....................which truthfully was flawed in how it was put together FROM DAY 1. So i think its safe to assume there are & have been other things wrong within this organization. So to lay most of the blame for this team's inepptitude at a specific time point in time when he just happened to arrive is flawed logic in an of itself. Very rarely have the Texans operated as we the fans thought they should.

What we don't know................ & likely never will, is whether or not Easterby has been or is the actual problem or..............if he was just an instrument used to expose the crap that likely was going on in the FO before he even arrived. What we do know is what he actually did when he had the GM title all to himself........ If there was ever a time for him to "flex" his power, that would've been it......instead, he did NOTHING.

Even feels the need to BS the teenagers. Jack being Jack.

"Executive Vice President" of an NFL team and the first interview he's given in almost two years is a never-seen podcast from some random teenagers whose most watched video is 77 views before this one.

He's scared to talk to professional reporters, but most weasels are so no surprise. He's probably feeling like he's losing his grip with Lovie in the building, so this is him fronting to try to justify his existence in the organization.

As far as I'm concerned Easterby started out looking like a clown. He was the one who went to the Patriots ring ceremony & got filmed talking to Caserio. For a man with all the football experience he claims he didn't even have enough sense to talk to Caserio out of the public eye,

I guess he came back telling O'Brien & the McNairs that it was a done deal & they could go ahead & fire Gaine the very next day. But of course the fool was caught on camera & the whole deal fell through.

So maybe it was all O'Brien who made the trades & signed the ridiculous contracts but it was Easterby's mishandling of the whole Caserio affair that put Billy O in a position to make all the jackass moves. Without Easterby Gaine probably doesn't get fired & who knows how that would have played out.

Was he a fool? He made sure that Kraft saw him talking to Caserio. Easterby and Caserio shared an agent, so it was highly likely Jack knew that Caserio couldn't accept a job without the Patriots consent. Some have suggested it was a ploy by Easterby to get one step closer to the GM position. Now, does that seem like something Jack would do?

So what you are saying is he's not stupid just devious & evil.

And the speculation mill runs even deeper. Now you can’t talk to friends in public anymore.

The Texans were close to losing draft picks because of tampering charges that resulted from that conversation. btw, it was not in public, it was at Robert Kraft's home. The Patriots dropped the case when the Texans decided to no longer pursue Caserio, but it was reported that it was a solid case against Easterby/Texans.

Put "Watson" in a post, you're gonna get a reply from steelb.

Put "Easterby" in a post, you're gonna get a reply from Mr Tex.

Cause & Effect.

You were the first one to reply when the thread was bumped. Just saying.

There are a few that get riled up when his name is mentioned.

Not that there is anything wrong with it. You hate who you hate.

If he was gone tomorrow it would make me more optimistic about the Texans moving forward.

Lol,The hate runs unexplainably deep for this dude & i for the life of me can't understand why. I mean its not like the Texans were a storied franchise that was a perennial contender before him. They're basically plodding along as they were before...

Really not much has changed. The boardroom is still in full effect down on Kirby.

You also will get a reply from DB and you if Easterby is mentioned.

No doubt, but do Kraft actually know what they were talking about? Did Caserio tell him exactly what was said at that particular time?

Yep, should have just given up the Howard 1st for Caserio and then the BOB/Easterby screwups wouldn't have happened.

Another thing bro this sounds like a bunch messy rich jokers. Bill ran everything so why are Kraft and Company tripping over Caserio anyways?

I hear if you say "Watson" or "Easterby" 3 times in front of a mirror in a dark bathroom the respective parties will show up in your bathroom through the mirror.

I also heard that IF you spill lotion and do not throw it over your left shoulder Watson will show up asking for "special attention".

Also, if you break a mirror it means seven more years of Easterby's leadership and the reflection of failure from his crystal bald head.

Texans' Jack Easterby breaks media silence, defines role with franchise

Polarizing Texans executive Jack Easterby, who's been media silent for nearly two years, defined his role with the team in an interview with a Philadelphia-based podcast.

Texans executive vice president Jack Easterby defined his role within the franchise’s front office in a rare interview with a Philadelphia-based sports podcast Sunday, which provided clarity to Easterby’s job title and broke an 18-month long media silence that lasted through several controversies that included a series of critical Sports Illustrated articles about his relationship with the team.

Easterby told Jacob Hare and Jacob Erlbaum in their “Jacob And Jacob Podcast” that the Texans are “organized in a very unique way.” General manager Nick Caserio, whom the Texans hired in January 2021, oversees the team’s football decisions that dictate personnel and the team’s “football performance on the field,” Easterby said, while Easterby focuses on subprograms that include the sports performance team, plus areas that focus on workplace logistics and technology.

“It’s a support role that really hopefully drives the innovation and hopefully the efficiency of the operation to give the coaches and the players and the general manager what they need to be able to do their job well,” said Easterby, who has not been part of an on-the-record availability with Houston media since the announcement of now-estranged quarterback Deshaun Watson's contract extension in September 2020.

Caserio outlined a similar structure in a January interview with Sports Radio 610’s morning drive show “Payne & Pendergast” in which the second-year executive said “anything as it pertains to making football decisions” like contract signings, draft picks, scouting, “those things fall under my jurisdiction.”

Caserio said this, he forgot to add that he may be over football opps, but he's not allowed to pick his HC or run things on gameday the way he learned to do things in Foxboro.

I just subscribed to Jacob And Jacob Podcast. Making me subscriber #269. Let's get these hard working kids to 300 subscribers as a reward for getting Jack out of his cave.

I'm glad Jack spent 2 yrs in his cave. Less chance of him screwing up again. Now that he's come out of the cave there should be no doubt what his responsibilities are. He forgot to add spiritual advisor to Janice/Calhoun to his responsibilities to this list.
