Who are your top candidates for head coach considering Culley was just fired?

- Byron Leftwich
- Matt Eberflus
- Pep Hamilton

I don’t want McDaniels.

Like I said earlier, if you liked all of the 2021 FUBARS, you are going to LOVE all of the 2022 FUBARS. The File Clerk's first major FUBAR of 2021 was the hiring of David Culley. The File Clerk's first major FUBAR of 2022 will most likely be hiring a HC he could've hired last year. GET YOUR POPCORN READY!

Brian Flores was not available last year and his recent firing was unexpected. If he was NC's long term target, then his sudden availability likely triggered the firing of Culley.

I would love for McDaniels to work with Mills.

Plus McDaniels is an A+ playcaller.

McCown would also be my choice for OC/QB Coach. 20 yrs of NFL experience playing the position. Plus he's from Jacksonville, Tx.

Culley was only guaranteed for two years. His contract says as much.

There was intent there. The plan has always been to get another coach in a short time frame.

Alignment. Culture.
Exactly

Yeah, I guess Culley isn't going to be getting that extra 15 mil Texian was posting about. More like 4 mil. for next yr.

In short Culley got paid 8 mil to take the heat at the beginning of the rebuild. I really like Culley, seems like a standup kinda guy and he never had a chance. However he was well compensated for his troubles. Probably made more in these 2 yrs than he did in the rest of his career combined.

I'm OK with Flores, but I'm more interested in who we bring in as OC and DC.
I wonder if Pep Hamilton would have a renewed interest in staying in Houston if given the job? What about Kafka, would he come? I heard somewhere he turned down the Eagles last year for the OC job. Would Lovie mesh with Flores? I wouldn't mind seeing Son of Bum back here. Mayo?

Aaron Wilson reporting that Pep Hamilton is being considered an in-house candidate for OC, depending on conversations with any new HC. Not sure how this works though...

Josh McDaniels certainly would want to choose his own OC (wouldnt trust McDaniels to keep his word anyway)

Brian Flores? Our defense would be damn good, but we already had one guy that didnt play well with others

Flores lost a power struggle with his GM in Miami. Would he really be willing to come here for a GM that clearly has all the power and a BFF sycophant in a another high level position that would ensure Flores would always have to watch his back? Littlefinger going into his third HC now. lol

The new HC isn’t picking his staff if Pep is the new OC.

Would Flores, or McDaniels want that? Or Mayo or anyone else?

This is going to heat up really quick. Especially if Patriots lose this weekend.

Flores loves Easterby. Worked under Caserio.

Sounds like culture and alignment!

The problem is Flores' background is defense but he is not a Tampa2 guy.
Caserio could ask him to give Smith a season….especially if a few assets could be added to the defense. Hamilton also has a working knowledge of these players and could be a solid influence on Mills.

Caserio could also sale the job to McDaniels and Flores that the team is in the first phase of the rebuild and keeping some familiar coaches around the team could help with either of their transition.
