Gameday Texans @ 49ers

Can’t blame him. The offensive line checked out after halftime!
True but some of those passes had nothing to do with pressure. The INT was a bad pass as was the one where he missed the 2 open receivers the near sideline on the left...you take those 2 plays away and the refs have nothing. He does well as most QBs with a clean pocket, he has to learn how to perform when its dirty. I could defineitely see the difference in his footwork. Hopefully he'll get better as he gets experience.

With Cooks back, Mills had 15 completions before that last drive, 12 of them were to Cooks (6) and Burkhead (6). Conley, Collins and Brown accounted for the other 3.

The Int was a bad throw

The Inc was a miscommunication between Mills and Cooks. It happens

He got plenty of work throwing from a dirty pocket today and did a solid job. The Bomb to Cooks that got called back was a spectacular throw.

Mills gets a B for todays game against a good defense. Still cant figure out why Culley didn't go for it on 4th and 8 on the 49ers side of the field down 10 with 7 mins left in the game.

I think Mills didn't see the DB at all. Maybe a lineman was obstructing his view. The pass was so bad that it's hard to believe he knew the DB was there. I'm hoping someone asks him about it at the press conference. The good news is those bad throws have been trending down since he became the starter.

Yeah I don't think he saw the DB, never a good time for those types of mistakes but better to learn and get it out the way while the team is crappy.

Just got home. Listened to game on radio. P Brown with another horrendous holding call to negate a huge play to Cooks…

Dodnt read through the thread but how many “Brown sucks” comments were there?
I know I said it out loud when it happened. “Man, Brown sucks”

edit - although he shouldn’t be having to block Bosa alone

I just hope people remember how much Brown is a penalty and drop machine when the Texans both sign a free agent and draft a TE.

It's just amazing how these guys show flashes one season, then they are the worst player on the team the next.

It's been especially bad with our TEs. Jordan, Jordan, now Pharoah, don't expect much from Jordan next season

Three drafted Jordans at the same position what are the chances...I just checked I didn't see any Jordans for 2022. It does seem to be a good year for full-sized mid round guys (rounds 3-5)

In the 2nd quarter, the Texans scored a TD on a 16 play, 85 yards drive. On their other drives:
  • 5 plays, 5 yards
  • 4 plays, 8 yards
  • 6 plays, 9 yards
  • 4 plays, 8 yards
  • 16 plays, 85 yards (TD)
  • 4 plays, -2 yards
  • 6 plays, 16 yards (INT)
  • 5 plays, 0 yards
  • 11 plays, 17 yards
  • 9 plays, 14 yards
  • 5 plays, 8 yards
  • 7 plays, 57 yards
That's just sad no matter how it's spun, is this the worst offense of the 31 teams in the NFL? The Jags are not a team, maybe next year or the next...

Useful stats.

This could support my theory that the number of good drives or good quarters Mills can put together per game is heavily dependent on how much of the playbook he has learned. I think what happened in this game is DeMeco Ryans, who was faced with a must-win situation, identified the plays Kelly called the most and he shut them down. You may have noticed the 9'ers defense attacked certain plays like they knew the play was coming. Ryans also committed to covering receivers instead of blitzing. This forced Mills to go through more progressions, which is a weakness for every rookie QB.

Went to the game today with a bunch of my buddies (all 49er fans). All of them put money down on the Texans to cover. They wanted me to get in, and I said "Ain't not way I'm gonna trust the Texans to cover."

Of course, we tailgate and I'm 8 shots down. They ask me again and of course I throw down $200 to cover. Ugh!

Alcohol makes people do those kinds of things.

I've done things like that myself.

We need things like that to happen so we can continue the annual tradition of drafting a TE that will never amount to **** every season.

Good point. In Culley's post-game press conference, he said it was a matter of execution. They ran the same plays in the 2nd half and wasn't as successful as the 1st half.

I stopped paying attention to the game after the refs took over.
Yep the call where the refs blew the whistle when they claimed forward momentum had stopped as we recovered the fumble, was an especially blatantly bad call at a key point in the game. Why even the announcers who called the game as if they were on San Frans payroll were scrambling for an explanation.
No matter we are still picking 3rd or fourth overall in April, just keep your eyes on the longer-term goals.

That is pathetic and if it doesn’t scream “need a new OC” not sure what does?

I expect alot from Jordan

I'm hoping Caserio is able to add either LaPorta or Kolar in the 4th rd and sign O.J. Howard in FA.

It's indicative of how few plays Mills actually knows. I think of it like learning a new language in a foreign country. Mills is at the point where he knows how to buy drinks for the local girls but he can't hold a conversation yet.

meh.....we draft them every year anyways.
I used to say that Kubiak collected TE's like crazy ladies collect cats. I just assumed he was trying to find the next Owen Daniels, but it's been a tradition in Houston for a decade now.

I think we finally got a good one in Brevin Jordan though.

Not sure I buy that. Kelly hasn't shown us any different with any QB
