So he spent a year getting Name, Likeness, Image money as a back-up to a Heisman finalist and then comes back to Texas. Financially, brilliant, especially short term.

Never been a fan of transfer student athletes. There are a few exceptions ie: HC changes. (Grad students are an exception.) It says from the get go they were not good enough to be the starter. In the case of Texas this is an upgrade though. Jimbo Fisher was not interested in signing Ewers. Jimbo was happy with the QBs he has signed and is signing. That in the light that the Aggies starting QB in 2021, Zach Calzada also entered the transfer portal. Calzada transfers and not being interested in Ewers, things must be really looking good in College Station.

Justin Fields was a recent transfer. Did good enough to be drafted 11th overall.
The transfer rules have changed.
More transfers in the future.
It will be common.
And Joe Burrow was good enough to go #1 overall.

I can't imagine that he didn't have an interest in the SEC. My guess is he went with the team closest to home that guaranteed he would start.
I know he had labama and Auburn listed as schools of interest, just don't remember any mention of him giving any real consideration to A&M.

I imagine Ewers will be Texas starting QB next year. Ewers may not have had interest in A&M because A&M had no real interest in Ewers. Jimbo has been pretty clear he is very high on Weigman, has him ahead of Klubnik. Weigman is Jimbo's guy. The guy who beat Alabama entered the transfer portal because he knew going into 2022 season, he would likely be the 3rd QB on the depth chart.

Looks to me it wasn't that he was satisfied with his current crop, the reason for not pursuing Ewers, he just wasn't interested in Ewers.
Ewers grew up a Longhorn fan but wasn't interested in playing for Herman.
He committed to Texas under Herman... switched to OSU to get paid

Now that OL talent has been improved, Sark's offense should begin to look alot like Bama's offense rather than LSU's offense the Longhorns offense looked like next yr.
