Week 7 @ Arizona

That was some funny stuff to watch today. What a joke of a team.
That defense still impressed me. They’re not a legendary defense by any means, but for bubble wrap & string, Lovie has done a heck of a job, especially considering the amount of change he’s been dealing with from week to week.

STs looks like they might start contributing. If only the offense would start contributing.

Not that I think it will get the Texans into the playoffs this year, but I’d rather the Texans start building their foundation now. Not two years from now.

I'm watching to see a professional team that although limited and not expected to win many games, play a disciplined, well coached, high effort football game. I'm still waiting. My gripe is what I'm watching is not the same as some of the BS being spouted by some fans.

The Texans are not good

are you really surprised?

The eternal optimist.

I take it back David C and our entire coaching staff are idiots....I pray we bring in a competent coach with a brain in the next few years!

Things are worse from last year. Far worse. Mills is just a hope.

I don’t think things are worse from last year. Putting aside his character and off field choices/actions for a second and looking at it from a pure football talent point of view, last year the team couldn’t do anything even with Watson at QB.

This team was looking decent, or at least not a complete embarrassment, before TT went down so if they actually had a QB of Watson’s talents I think they would compete for the division anyway.

That being said if a team is going to suck anyway the realist in me would rather they suck all out and get in good draft position rather than the low 20s they were always drafting in, its just the fan in me that hates to see it.

You forgot the 3rd and 24 conversion!!

And I think it was a tackle for loss. I was just almost drunk I think
It was a really good play. He knifed into the backfield to bring the running back down, I guess it was Connor. Texans should trade him now, while that play is fresh in the minds of anyone who might want him. Because that play might be the last good thing he does all season if he stays with the Texans.

I had company over today, didn't get a chance to really watch the Game.

How did Mills/Collins/Heck look?

Greenard/Blacklock/KGH/LoJo?

Not surprised by the losses. But with all of the veteran signings and having one of the oldest rosters, the penalties, lack of execution, discipline and mental breakdowns are ridiculous.

Yeah, I didn't really get a chance to watch the game.

This coaching staff, who I was very high on when it came to instilling discipline into the team, seems to have lost its way.

LeeBigTex had a good point about guys on 1 year deals getting out of position to improve their odds of making the highlight reel. That, the lack of focus, and the penalties are different ways of giving up on a coach, which happens when a coach can't draft his own guys. It's just one other way O'Brien screwed this oganization. It will take at least two more years to be detoxified of his decisions.
Yep, self preservation kicks in. Let me make a play even if its not my play to make. A team full of prove it deals for guys pushing 30 is a recipe for undisciplined play. Remember when last year JJ was jumping inside getting sealed vs Browns a week after calling Blacklock selfish for the pseudo fight?

In the first quarter, the front seven held their own. They were active, applied pressure and got multiple hits on Murray. As expected, lack of offense led to them getting worn down in the 2nd half.

As far as Mills/Collins/Heck/Kelly and the entire offense? Three points in the 2nd quarter. They didn't score in the second half, they never challenged the defense and were not even competitive for the majority of the game.

Cover 2 sucks if you don't have that quick, smart MLB to take away the middle of the field ala Derrick Brooks

I’d love to know what the heck they’re looking at. Receivers running past them & they stop dropping back… makes no sense. Why don’t they understand that whatever is happening behind them it makes a more difficult throw if they keep dropping back.

They are not disguising coverages and not showing any pre vs post snap looks. As a result, QBs are recognizing the coverages and then easily manipulating the safeties and getting them out of position. Lovie can do a better job by making it a little harder for the QBs.

There is a post showing the percentages when they show a pre-snap coverage and remained in the same coverage.

Was it a talent issue? Did the OL look terrible?

Or is it a coaching issue? Predictable playcalling/ Not opening up the playbook/Playing not to lose?

For a while but since the offense does nothing the defense always gets worn down by the mid point in the game. I think the defense is much improved from last year but they are on the field so much we don't realize it because they ran out of gas at some point every game.
If they want to fix the OL instead of drafting Thibadeaux, Caserio could bring Kenyon Green home and keep Tunsil.

I blame the coaches. Not just Culley. No way you should be doing the dumb stuff they are. Poor executions, penalties and discipline are on the staff (players too, but more staff).

On a side note, JJ had a TFL today. Nice play JJ!

The only penalty I put on the coaches is the illegal formation. They did a bad job teaching it.

The roughing the passer on Collins was a ticky tack foul that shouldn’t have been called.

The horse cooler & the holding.. those are talent issues. Guy got beat, what you gonna do?

Probably because there will be even more massive gaps in the intermediate areas. If you stress a cover 2 with deeper routes, everything underneath will be wide azz open if you drive those CBs and safeties. The LBs collectively aren't going to be that good in coverage, your pass rush has to be above avg to offset.

I’m talking about as they’re playing, no one in front of them. Receiver runs past them, the stop. Making it way to easy to get the ball over their head.

They scored three points. It was all of the above. Not going to be competitive running the ball for 42 yards and a conservative passing offense like this.

This is typical of Mills season stats. Mills has 5 TDs & 7 INTs. Has one of the lowest yards per attempt. Has 88 completions, 5 over 20+ and 2 over 40+. Mills has only been effective with passes < 10 yards and behind the line of scrimmage.
