Takeaways from Patriots game.

Didn't watch any of the game, but sounds like Mills is improving. That's good to hear. I liked what I saw from him on film before the draft. I'm guessing the Texans will say that they didn't do a good enough job...whoever is talking will take a part of the blame and let us know they've got to do better going forward.
He played his butt off today. Was very impressed with his accuracy and ball placement. He still has something’s to work on, like throwing the ball away in the red zone verses taking a sack. He also showed some mobility. His longest run was wiped away with a holding penalty.
Coaches robbed him of a victory today. FairB missed two extra points and a 56 yard FG.

About how long was the run that got taken away?

My takeaway is me wondering why I invest time and money still cheering for this team and living and dying by their results. It’s been 19 1/3 seasons and it’s the same crap. No matter who the coach is. No matter who the GM is. No matter the players. It’s the same dumb decision making and crap play calling/ playing.
Omenihu, who is our best d-lineman is a healthy scratch to get a scrub some PT? We get a lead in a game and we go ultra conservative like we did under Capers, Kubes, and BOB. Our Special Teams making costly mistakes like Jacoby vs Baltimore, the fake punt vs KC 2 years ago, etc.
Owners not having a clue or not giving a damn or both. GMs making stupid signings/trades or not resigning PLAYERS.
But, I’ll be watching next week because I’m dumb or a masochist or both.

I will follow along on here but would rather watch other teams play. I know quite of few people on here warned us about the tank bull crap. But a ninja was in denial, holding onto a lit hope that it wasn’t true. After today’s game I am convinced that that’s exactly what they are doing. I can’t stand freaking quitters/tankers.

I know the Texans didn't play great, Culley made some questionable decisions, and there were some really bad plays by the STs... but that roughing the passer call pretty much decided the winner. The refs handed a 1st down to the Pats when they were on 3rd & 17! These are the type of plays that make me question why I watch the NFL.
I've been saying the NFL has been rigged for the last 10 yrs.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
Culley made some terrible decisions in this game, but some aggressiveness early on that put us in a winning position…I’ll give him a rookie pass but got to improve the decision making.

DL, just not getting it down. We’ve been spoiled by Anthony Weaver coaching that position really well for a number of seasons. Vincent Taylor might improve things a littl

LBs, we have plenty of players who id be happy to have as backups, Kirksey, KGH, Martin, if they were rotating in for some better starters then that would be great, I wonder if we move towards that in the off-season.

The DBs aren’t good enough. I worry that we’ll have missed the boat on Justin Reid’s peak before we put a decent group around him.

Still no run game. Watch out for the fools gold in Tim Kelly’s game planning, this was a good showing in the passing game but we are back to 2019 levels of up and down weeks.

Chris Moore looked bright, possibly because he wasn’t planned for as a late call up from the practice squad, take it Mills has run the scout team with him all off-season?

We also witnessed one of the few days a season where Kelly remembers he has Tight Ends to pass to.

It’s a rough year and this loss from a huge lead should feel more upsetting than it does, especially given how bad the rest of the division is, but it just feels numb.

Wasn't this the type of game that most posters on this board wanted? To play well and grow but lose for a better draft pick. This season is a wash so as long as we are competitive and continue for the young players to get better and learn their craft, that is all we can hope for this year.
Positives:
*Davis Mills answers a lot of questions with a very good performance and could be our future starter.
*Roy Lopez is developing and appears to be a steal at his draft position.
*Justin Reed is a top NFL safety and will require a big contract (that's good).
*The receiving core is better than anticipated.
*The D line is much improved.
Negatives:
*Big holes in the secondary.
*Inadequate running game.
*Terrible special teams play.
*Head coaching head scratching decisions.

Had to listen to the game on the radio broadcast; and must say I really enjoyed it more than the commentary on the TV broadcast. Wish I could sinc the radio to the TV.

Does anyone know when the replay will be on the NFL network. Nothing is showing up yet on the Dish schedule.

Yeah, I just could care less about wins and losses in the grand scheme cause it’s going to take 2 years to fix this flustercluck and Mills is steadily improving verses the the best defenses. He’s had a baptism by fire and his memory is all of about 3 seconds.
You give this kid some real talent around him and he just might really be something.
Get the highest possible draft pick and trade the perv for a bunch too.
Oh and let’s all just admit that the Bills are for real. That team rolled KC like it was nothing. Mahomes looked lost at times and made terrible decisions too.

It was also mentioned on the radio broadcast that the first 15 plays are scripted. This was commented on just before that first TD pass, which was the 16th play, and they were wondering how Kelly would call that play.

KGH and Kirksey played all the snaps on defense. Cunningham 3rd wheel with just over half the snaps. I wonder if KPL will eat into his work load more when he returns?

Cunningham not only is Jay Foreman reincarnated, at least Foreman cared.

Cunningham wont be on the team next yr and rightfully so.

Ok. I thought you were implying I did.

If you think the NFL is rigged, then why even watch it?
It doesn't bother me.

I love college football and like to see how guys that I like in college turn out in the NFL.

Plus I like the strategy of football. My favorite type of football is high school football. No money, just love of the game

You need to go back and watch the game again.
I have. Watched the condensed version. The throw to Moore looked like a throwaway ,but give credit to him and Moore. The Auclair td and flea flicker were easy throws. He made them, his credit, thats good. I didn't see a throw that says big-time. To me, I need to see pressure throws in unbalanced environment. In the NFL, if you're going to be one of those dudes, you're going to have to make those kind of throws.

I'm not a fan of Cunningham, but if the team isn't trying to win, why are you going to care? Nobody in their right mind thinks the team is trying to win. A couple of more losses with great weather and nrg is going to be a ghost town. From the looks of it, this team probably won't be close to .500 for 4 or 5 years. They don't even have foundation players. Not to mention Esterbunny is still around there pulling strings. How was Ominehu a healthy scratch? They're not getting my Neilson rating credit. I just watch the condensed on game pass.

We saw 2 different games. He was accurate and threw into tight windows.

The Carolina he did more of what you're looking for in terms of delivering accurate throws under intense pressure.

They're a 4 win team, this is really simple. BTW, just because Culley is a nice guy doesn't mean he's a HC. But he's a rookie and he's learning on the job too.

I like the, I don't care who you are, if you aren't willing to do the things we ask of you, then you're going to be put on the inactive list.

That's been missing in the Texans org for a long time.

So Cals lying and Easterby is running the show, not Caserio?

Brown, Smith, Myers, Brisiel, and Winston. That was a good Oline.
What makes that OL amazing is we didn't have to invest alot of capital acquiring it.
  • Brown - only 1st round pick of the group, but he was a low 1st and we even traded down for him (picked up an additional 3rd & 6th)
  • Smith - signed as a FA for $3mil/year
  • Myers - traded for a 6th round pick
  • Brisiel - signed as an undrafted free agent
  • Winston - 3rd round pick
Such the opposite of today's OL group.

Gibbs was only here in 08-09. Gibbs is uber extra super mega offensive line coordinator, we know this. He barely saw (or didn't) most of our best linemen.

Brown was let go, and we traded 2+ first round picks for a lesser player.
Brandon Brooks isn't on your list - a monster guard for only a 3rd.
Ben Jones was heir apparent at center.
XSF should've been no less than 'good', but that whole coaching thing ...

We had a great (and cheap) offensive line with proper coaching, and the right parts/picks set up to make it last. Guess what got dismantled first.

I had Jones on the 2012 team.
Brooks was drafted in 2012 and played only 10% of the snap that year.
He was good from 2013 on.
Even Newton (7th round?) was serviceable, albeit the weak link.
OB even kept him around with a new contract.
