Week 5 - Patriots Bowl

What exactly is it that CAN be put on Mills? Unbelievable with the excuses for this dude. I get that there's plenty of blame to go around, but they've scored 9 points in 2 games with this guy at QB. 1 TD, 4 INT, 2 of 18 3rd down conversions, and 20 total 1st downs in those 2 games.

Yeah the run game sucks, the OL run blocking is shit, and other than Cooks, there's no playmaker on this team, but they did score 51 points in 6 quarters with Taylor driving the bus with this same group of crap. Oh wait, yeah, there's the much better defenses that Mills has had to play excuse. Almost forgot about that one.
Why "put" anything on Mills. Accept the situation the Texans are in for what it is.

Mills has some attributes .... but in today's game, the trait that Buschbaum used to refer to as "nifty", is so much more important than it was a generation ago. We would call it "elusiveness" .... and Mills doesn't appear to have a ton of it. Tyrod has a fair amount, but I think his is mixed with a very calm mind. Think - Johnny Football, or Maholmes, or even DW4 ! Mills needs the luxury of carrying the clipboard for a while. He can't process all that's happening while finding the alternate target and choosing what kind of ball to throw. He's smart though, he'll get there quicker than many.
And Number19 was right .... our offensive run blocking sucks big time .... especially RT and LG !

The Pats famously take away an opponent’s best weapon. That’s a bad thing for the Texans when you consider the dropoff between Cooks and everybody else in terms of being an effective weapon on offense.

This is a good week to get the running game going.

Interesting stat: In terms of yards allowed the Bills, Browns, Panthers and Pats are 1,2,3 and 5 respectively in the NFL.

Points allowed:

Bills (1)
Panthers (3)
Browns (4)
Pats (6)

Its been a rough run of defenses for this offense!

Too much focus on Mills attributes or lack there of, it’s the system, players around him, lack of continuity, coaching, intelligence of organization top down, with uncertain future. Complain all you want about Mills but that’s not going to help him, the Texans or your game day experience.

I complain about the lack of beer.
That's all I need for the game day experience.

How would you compare Mills to Joe Burrows & Mac Jones?

They wasn’t having this when Tyrod was under center. Therefore, what’s the root caused to all of that? The young very inexperienced quarterback that is.

There is always room for great beer (great team) over crap beer (bad team) so if your watching Texans no sense wasting the good stuff, it’s just pain killer. If you watch the Chargers, find the best you can, best goes best with the best :wesmantexanfan:

Seriously it really starts with the Head Coach. Herbert performed last year on natural athletic ability and arm strength. Pepe was there as he is for Mills. So his mechanics look solid to me, but it’s as if he is playing on an island. Game planning with Tyrod was money, but for some reason (Mills mobility) they can’t adjust. That’s on scheme and OC Kelly.

To make that jump, 2nd year, QB position requires maturation of a proven system (choose you poison or branch of coaching tree, what the hell are the Texans tree?) then with multiple support systems working towards the same targets. I doubt there is another Staley, building foundation pieces, position coaches who can implement those systems, a GM who listens and having personal, caring relationships with everybody in organization. Once everyone believe’s and are all aboard for common goal, they play harder and harder, believe and results provide the positive feedback.

It’a a process that takes time, like good:toast2:

Is it just a coincidence that Danny Amendola was injured in the first half against the Browns and the Texans offense has been crap since? I guess we’ll find out who was the engine that made the offense go (Tyrod or Danny) on Sunday!

Again Tyrod has a much better understanding of the offense that’s being employed. He had pretty good command of this offense.
Mills a rookie and might I add that it’s understandable that he doesn’t. When they added more to his plate, he couldn’t handle it. Yes the pressure from the Bills top notch defense caused a lot of it as well. But what I saw was a kid who was struggling with reading the defense and a quarterback who struggled passing the ball on all three stages.

They know that. Caserio should have also known that before the season started based off Tyrods injury history. Heck I was telling y’all he would last but a few games, not just game and half.

The F’n point is how ill prepared this organization is and inability to adjust to new paradigm. This team will never go anywhere, not because of Mills but coaching ability (game has passed them by) lower tier talent (virtually all 1st rd picks gone) and front office of Easterby and Caserio.

Of course it’s an organizational thing. But things would’ve been a lot better if a certain someone wouldn’t have demanded a traded or done the outlandish crap he did behind the scenes. These jokers didn’t have much to work with. Because they still have him on the roster and really can’t do much about it this point.

So the plan was let Watson stand alone and carry the entire load. Brilliant!

Maybe that’s exactly why he wanted out?

No . The defense is set. Watson would’ve opened up the entire offense. Watson quit because he knew what was going down with him and these sexual assault cases.

What defense ⭐️ What stars ⭐️ No corner ⭐️ No edge ⭐️ No LB ⭐️ No DT ⭐
Justin Reid only top notch safety/defensive player and he’s a free agent next season if Texans don’t pay his salary demands. Sorry dude your delusional, have a beer 🍻

The defense held on 3 stands against Buffalo allowing them fg's instead of tds. Could've been far worse then 40- 0.

I don't think anyone's suggesting we're all world on d.

apparently he does hence my reply.

How would you compare Mills to Joe Burrows & Mac Jones?

Burrows and Jones are more natural throwers .... whereas Mills seems to be stiffer - more robotic. I think it would be beneficial to Mills to practice "flipping" the ball, from all different positions .... as opposed to going to a rigid, statue-esque position, then releasing the ball. Thirty or 40 years ago, Sonny Jergonsen did a commercial for something or other. While he was talking, a receiver to his right, took off downfield. Jergonsen smiled real big, looked to his left, and lateraled a 25-30 yard spiral - behind his back, to the hands of that receiver. He grinned real big and said "just showin' off" as he walked away. It became a very popular saying for 5 or 10 years ! Point is, there are some guys that are good because they're not interested in doing it perfectly .... they're only interested in results. I think some of the new QBs are going back to more natural techniques that worked for them in other facets of athletic endeavors. Oh .... Aaron Rogers !

Difficult to say this early isn’t it? At least Herbert had his whole rookie season to evaluate and I get told too early to say he’s a top 10 QB. Four games into His2nd season and he looks top 5….. lol

Burroughs is closing in top 10

Mac looks exactly what BB wants, a system QB with moxie and poise.

Mills is a project in progress.

Its looking increasingly likely the Pats will be out 4 OL. Which will complicate their ability to run the ball and make them rely on rookie Mac Jones to drive the field slowly and methodically without making a mistake against Lovie’s defense.

If the Texans can finally get the running game going against the Pats defense and the Texans D can win the turnover battle against a rookie QB with a patchwork OL the Texans will be able to steal a win.

Here’s to hoping Heck’s insertion into the starting lineup and a more favorable run game matchup than last 3 games helps the team be able to run the ball and keep our own rookie QB from being in situations he’s likely to turn the ball over against an elite pass defense.

With the Pats OL injuries the Texans have a chance to “steal one” this week. But the run game has to get going. Ingram needs to get 20+ carries. The backs ideally combine for 40ish carries and the team has to consistently stay ahead of the sticks to dominate time of posession.

No silly penalties please! Mills, like all other QBs this season, will not get it done against this Pats secondary when faced with 3rd and long situations. They are just too good. But there is opportunity if they can run the ball successfully.

I see this as a low scoring game. I hope Fairbairn’s leg is ready.

I believe the Texans will score points in this game. Not many, but some.

Texans 10 (a defensive touchdown and a field goal primarily because of a turnover)
Patriots 23

The Texans offense is just bad.

I thought two of them were GameDay decisions

Technically yes. But one is an unvaccinated close contact and the other is vaccinated and tested positive.

Per the NFL’s COVID protocols, if a player is vaccinated and asymptomatic, they are eligible to return when they can produce two negative test 24 hours apart from each other. If a player is unvaccinated, they must be away from the team a minimum of 10 days regardless of symptoms.

“New England placed left tackle Isaiah Wynn and left guard on the COVID-19/reserve list, with one player being a not-fully-vaccinated close contact and the other testing positive. It’s unclear which is which.”

So it sounds like the close contact will definitely be out. While the player who tested positive could have their status taken up to gameday IF they can produce a negative test 24 hours apart.

The Patriots will be down 4 starting offensive linemen. You really think they will score that much?
The Texans have given up the second most points in the NFL through 4 games. And 23 points isn’t a lot.

But, I could be completely wrong and the Patriots don’t score a point. That would be nice.

Texans on high alert for Patriots' trick plays
By Aaron WilsonOct 8, 2021

Between Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels' long history of trick plays and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers' quarterback background, the Texans' defense is on high alert for deception on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

During a Sunday night loss to Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Meyers, who converted to wide receiver at North Carolina State after being recruited as a quarterback, completed two passes for 45 yards. That included a 30-yard pass to wide receiver Nelson Agholor to set up a fourth-quarter field goal, going 2 for 2 overall. For his career, Meyers is 4 for 4 for 88 yards and threw two touchdowns last season.

“The Patriots are always good for a couple of gadgets, man," Texans safety Justin Reid said. "I don’t think I’ve played them one time where they didn’t have a gadget play, either on special teams or on their offensive playbook. We know Meyers is a former quarterback.

"We know that they have a phenomenal offensive coordinator. Brilliant mind that’s going to come up with something unique. But a lot of that just comes back to discipline. If something just doesn’t feel right about the play, there’s probably a reason that it doesn’t feel right.”

“Jakobi, he’s got a nice arm and he had some good passes,” Jones said.

Just me or is there less interest in this game thread than others? I'm too lazy to research other games threads this season but less than 100 seems minimal.

I'm kinda heartbroken. All these Patriot injuries & the line hasn't moved. If anything it's opened up. Patriots -9

Naw it’s been about the same. Shoots even before the actual season started fans were way down on this team. Nothing has changed
