2021-2022 Watson Trade Ideas....

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
Thought this would be interesting thread where folks who want to talk about how a positive trade of Watson could affect the 2022 NFL Draft.

**Most important.....didn't want to see this thread turn into a Watson criminal discussion. If you want to interject those thoughts, there's probably 5 others threads available to do that.**

First, the big team a few of us thought about being almost having guaranteed interest may find themselves using their RD1 picks to help Jalen Hurts....so I think the Eagles will step away from the sweepstakes.

Second, the Dolphins could still be a very interested team but as long as Tua wins, maybe they're fine with rolling the dice and adding some more pieces to their team.

At this time, the team going to the top of my board could very well be the Giants. They have the draft capital in their own RD1 pick and the Bears RD1. After WK1 both could be in the top 12 which should be enough to peak Caserio's interest. Also, Daniel Jones isn't going to top flight QB1 in the NFL. The Giants would have to ask themselves if there's a QB1 better than Watson in the draft and that would be a big "no" in my book. Also, I don't think Watson would mind going to the Giants who are further from the playoffs this season but a lot closer than most expect if they had a top signal caller.

GIANTS Get:
QB- Deshaun Watson

TEXANS Get:
2022 RD1 / RD1
2023 RD2 / RD3 (Highest Slot)
2024 RD1 / RD3 (Highest Slot)

I could see parlaying the second pick in RD1 into a trade with the Eagles where they might like the idea of moving back up inside the top 12 picks. So I'm going with this type of Belichick move.

EAGLES Get:
2022 RD1 (2nd Pick)

TEXANS Get:
2022 RD1 / RD1 (2nd & 3rd Picks)

I'm following Tankathon's slotting for example of RD1 pick slots.

Texans RD1 Picks:
01, 03, 20, & 24

Another move could be to trade out of the 20 & 24 spots for picks inside the first 5 in RD2.....if there'd be any takers. I'd still like the idea of tying up young talent for a 5th year if they pan out. Key, don't wait for YR5 to try and lock them in long-term. You have to recognize the talent early and reward early to help keep re-signing cost down.

My thoughts have changed due to injuries and of course play on field by college players and NFL players from five months ago in my thread BADBOY's 2022 trades and mock drafts:

I enjoy "deals".

Detroit will go now with Goff as starter and he will disappoint. His 2020 stats of 552/3952 20 TDs but 13 INTs will bring offers as his base for 2022 is just under $11m. PFF was 71.4 and a team needing a good but not great QB that has an oline should offer something for 2022.

Watson will be on field by 2022.

Texans get Lions round ones in 2022 that I project as 1.2 and 1.29 plus OT Penei Sewell and 2020 corner Jeff Okudah. Detroit drafted Sewell as BPA but were surprised when neither Miami or Bengals selected him. Watson is worth this package going into the 2022 season.

Eagles seeing Watson gone with Houston perhaps taking Howell with the first pick decide to trade up for that pick. Sure, by next year other QBs may be enticing but for now IMO he is only one worthy of a top 5 pick. Having said that, Eagles also will be aware that other teams needing a star play-caller could LeapFrog them to accomplish the same thing with Houston. We know from the recent draft that I am not only one capable of unexpected moves in round one.

Philly gets 1.1 3300 points
Texans get 1.4 1800 1.20 850 & 1.22 780= 3430

Summary:
1.2 +1.4+1.20+1.22+1.29

If another quarterback is another Zach Wilson , I can see Houston trading down from 1.2 to pick up other selections.
Although I am not so enthusiastic about a trade of L Tunsil [I'm predicting TT will be brought back for at least one more season and Tunsil would be worth keeping to protect TT or Davis] I still want to move his '22 and '23 caps.

I still want NYG as trade partner but not preferably for DW. I want Dolphins for that as I think Miami and DW want each other and we can avoid the NT clause and pressure Ross to up ante chiefly if teams needing QBs get into the bidding.

Watson to Dolphins for Wr Waddell + DE/LB Jaelan Phillips 4.58 forty 6'5.5" 260 + CB X Howard + 2022 Round 1.27 {SF projection} + 2023 round ones (2 theirs and SF).

* Miami was 9-7 with only Howard on team of those in trade proposal. Howard is very good but DW is a franchise top 3-5 QB that Stephen Ross must want. Dolphins drafted 1.30 Noah Igbinoghene in 2020.

Giants knowing DW gone and drafting 1.5 (me) offer that and Bears 1.10 for our 1.1 and almost equal swap on draft point tables.

Houston Texans add best corner X in NFL +my best WR Waddell from college + if healthy a better player or at least = to Thibodeaux in Phillips.

1.05 Cb Stingley or ANthony 1.10 DE Demarvin Leal 1.27 LB Christian Harris 2.33 Safety Jordan Hamilton

Info coming out of Giant land fans not happy with their GM. Sound familiar? One comment was about taking Saquan Barkley.

That would be a pretty decent haul. But, does Miami put 3 players in with (3) RD1 picks? One thing I’m guessing…..the 2022 NFL Draft could become eerily similar to the 2014 NFL Draft. This time it could be the pressure of drafting at #1….a QB or Thibodeaux that may not be a true #1 pick…..just the pressure and hype from the media.

Not just 3 players, but 3 of their best players and all of these guys are young.

Unrealistic, IMHO

I think so but due to a combination of things that I had mentioned above such as Stephen Ross desperately wanting Watson. That is a conclusion I have based on information I have received from various blogs specifically coming out of that area. As Tua Tag's growth does not keep up with expectations pressure mounts. As season progresses and QBs drop by injury or by lack of productivity I hope Caserio ups his price.

Is important to note that of those picks and players I posted only Xavien Howard was on the Dolphins roster last season when they went nine and seven.

Definitely get your point, hoping Ross thinking he had 9 Ws with last seasons roster does removing Howard and adding DW get him to Bowl? All fishermen think about the one that got away. Ross should not want to be that guy.

As Watson’s situation moves along…..I could see him allowing a trade to any reasonably good team just to escape everything he created in Houston. I like the Dolphins but I’m feeling the Giants could be just as good a fit.

Also, I like the potential of where the Giants (2) RD1 picks in the next draft could land versus where the Dolphins (2) RD1 picks in the 2023 draft Might land.

Yep it's only better deal if Houston demands solid players in addition to draft picks. Giants have really no one I want.

Cleaned up the off topic posts in this thread - keep it on topic , let these guys have their space to discuss the hypotheticals of a trade.

Great idea... but they need to keep their hypotheticals here instead of cluttering up all the other threads

Hypothetically speaking, what are the chances that other threads dont get cluttered up?
