Texans 2021 53 Man Roster Prediction

Quarterbacks (3): Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills (R), Deshaun Watson

How do y’all feel about Tua? Something will happen to resolve QB Deshaun Watson, better for team to move on sooner than later.

Running backs (4): Mark Ingram, Phillip Lindsay, David Johnson, Rex Burkhead

Scottie Phillips is my preference, Texans expose him he will be poached.

Wide receivers (6): Brandin Cooks, Chris Conley, Nico Collins (R), Keke Coutee, Anthony Miller*, Andre Roberts*

I’m unsure designations for Miller (IR) Robert’s 5.5 million dollar offseason contract guarantees his roster spot.

Tight ends (4): Jordan Akins, Pharaoh Brown, Brevin Jordan (R), Antony Auclair

Honestly Auclair is most complete TE of the bunch. Pharaoh has tremendous athletic ability

Offensive linemen (8): OT Laremy Tunsil, OL Tytus Howard, C Justin Britt, OG Max Scharping, OT Charlie Heck, OT Marcus Cannon*, OG Lane Taylor*, OG/C Justin McCray

Feel pretty good about this group.

Defensive ends (6): Whitney Mercilus, Jacob Martin, Jon Greenard*, Jordan Jenkins, Charles Omenihu, DeMarcus Walker

Better system for personal, even see flashes of greatness from Omenihu that outshine former number one pick Mario Williams.

Defensive tackles (4): Maliek Collins, Ross Blacklock, Vincent Taylor, Roy Lopez (R)

Honestly better group than expected.

Linebackers (5): Zach Cunningham, Christian Kirksey, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Garret Wallow (R)

Anybody else notice Texans traded McKinney to Dolphins for a 7th picking up a and Shaq Lawson then trade Shag Lawson to the Jets for another 6th?

Cornerbacks (6): Desmond King, Terrance Mitchell, Vernon Hargreaves, Tavierre Thomas, Tremon Smith, Ka’dar Hollman

Don’t even know who will wind up being CB1 and CB2? Corner by committee

Safeties (4): Justin Reid, Eric Murray, Lonnie Johnson, A.J. Moore*

Rumors of Lonnie being on the market, would create more DB depth concerns for me

Specialists (3): K Ka’imi Fairbairn, LS Jon Weeks, P Cameron Johnston

Best off season acquisition Cameron Johnston. Probably worth a third round pick to a contending team that lacks a punter.

Never try sending a post while at the Dentist office. Finally full 53 less than one hour until official roster positions secured. Teams frantically trying to backfill needs with each other before forced to follow waiver rules. Wouldn’t surprise any of us if Texans involved in one themselves.

Doubt Deshaun moved by deadline, but maybe move a RB and keep Phillips. Lot of teams looking for OT’s wonder what Tunsil could bring (2 first rounders?)… most of Caserio moves so far have been late rounders but sooner or later he will.

49 players here, that leaves 4 open roster spots to grab players off other teams practice squad and waiver wire. Should be interesting!
We need to sign Cam Newton

Are you not keeping any DL?

Patriots all in with Mac Jones. Patriot Way. They didn’t even have to trade up to get him. More ready to start than Mills but Lance Zierlein wrote this on his NFL Draft profile -
He has a tendency to play with some panic when pressure gets after him and could struggle when things aren't optimal around him. Jones has good backup to low-end starter potential.

Biggest surprises? I’d say 5 RBs is on the surface but this team needs to be run-heavy 40+ times a game to be competitive. With a 17 game season that sounds about right for number of RBs. Happy they are keeping Phillips instead of letting him get plucked off the practice squad by a team hit by RB injuries.

I don’t like Watson being on the 53. Maybe he’ll finally get moved to the commissioner exempt list.

Team is light at WR with 5 including KR specialist Roberts and TE at 3. Expected 4 TEs and/or 1 FB. I expect having RBs like David Johnson and Rex Burkhead who can split out wide played into the decision to go light on WRs.

Suprised by Tremon Smith making team over both Hollman and Rasul Douglas. Maybe its his versatility as a KR but I really expected both those guys to make the team and upgrade the CB room. Hopefully Hargreaves is cut after Roby’s suspension…

Also Mckinney just got cut by the Dolphins...so at the end of it all, the trade as a whole was trash for both teams..but if there was a winner, it was the Texans with 2 6th rounders snagged.....& got McKinney's money off the books.
What about the $7M they paid Lawson and the $1.5M dead money on McKinney?

It was the Dolphins that got out of Lawson's contract.
They didn't have to pay McKinney a dime for the time in TC.

Another draft pick just tossed into the trash with the release of Ka'Dar Hollman. Man, Caserio really hates those late round picks. Can't wait to see how he throws away the one he got for Lawson.

I bet Johnson and/or Burkhead play in the slot in emergency situations. I'm hoping Caserio picks up Tyron Johnson from the Chargers off of the WW.

I'm thinking another CB may be claimed off of the WW. Trufant is out there and healthy. He only got cut because he missed the last 2 weeks of preseason because his dad dying.

A low price to pay to take a look at a guy. I bet Hollman ends up on the PS. Would that be more acceptable to you?

Lots of good players on the waiver wire. John Brown requested his release from Raiders and to me tops that list of WRs.

In "emergency" situations they'd just put a corner or safety on them. Not really an advantage for us imo.

We need to come out heavy, two TEs, a FB... then motion the RB to the slot. Then they'll have to commit a LB to a RB in the slot. That would be a match up in our favor.

Even if they switch a DB on the slot, it leaves a LB covering Akins or Jordan... again, should favor us.

I wonder if they see Brevin or Akins as an H Back candidate since they didn’t carry Quessenberry at FB.

Lol, no. by the end of Schaub's career here he couldn't throw a golf ball thru a wet paper bag. Newton still has pop in his arm. He's an easy upgrade over Taylor right now...Aside from that, he's familiar with the patriot way having played with the Pats last year.
Taylor's hasn't played a full season in awhile and Mills is terrible right now.

This is my greatest concern. I don't think we have a serviceable QB for this season. It's almost like we're stuck in the bedroom of the three bears .... and the baby bear's bed is gone !

The Houston Texans released the following players: Antony Auclair, Rasul Douglas, Jeff Driskel, Alex Erickson, Danny Isidora, Jaleel Johnson, Chris Moore, Hardy Nickerson, Derek Rivers, Joe Thomas, Cole Toner

The Houston Texans waived the following players: Shyheim Carter, Keke Coutee, Hjalte Froholdt, Carson Green, Ka'dar Hollman, Buddy Howell, Ryan Izzo, Ryan McCollum, Jonathan Owens, Paul Quessenberry, Jordan Steckler, Jordan Veasy

Released Antony Auclair, hoping to slide him on practice squad I'm sure. Kept Scottie Phillips which I love, even though carrying 5 RB's on roster strong but there are medicial concerns with most of the older players, Ingram/Johnson/Burkhead so its for insurance purposes. Lane Taylor failed his physical, and Cannon elevated from physical unable to perform hence * left Bradley Roby off because on the reserve/suspended Commissioner list but its only one game. Keke Coutee was my biggest surprise, not because he's good, he is not, just didn't expect Texans to throw in the towel finally.

Overall, think Caserio and Culley did about as well as to be expected. With Tyrod starting QB Texans will need all five backs. Will be very hard for him/them to stretch the field. Expect a lot more receptions from the backs and Tight Ends. Don't want to be negative towards any of the 53 who've worked their butts off to make this roster. Sucks that Watson is taking a roster spot and will not see field as Texan, but they have to protect investment they eventually expect to maximize.

I disagree. They kept 5 running backs and 4 wrs. Makes no sense no matter how many times you plan on running the ball. Once the decision to keep Phillips, they should've cut Rex and Johnson. In the last 2 yrs, their isn't anything Rex and Johnson does better than Ingram. Cutting Keke didn't make sense with Miller out injured and Cooks one concussion away from retirement.

Two CBs I am interested in taking a closer look at after cuts:

Rashaan Melvin and Pierre Desir

Both players had the best years of their career on the Colts defense in a similar scheme Lovie is bringing over. They have since declined. Do they have anything left in the tank if brought back to a scheme which maximized their talents as bigger, longer zone CBs?

Maybe NC thinks he can trade one of them yet this week with some key injuries that happened at RB. I don't think this is the final roster

I agree. The roster will change over the next 2 weeks and I'm sure NC knows how many WR's and RB's he has on the roster and has a plan for making adjustments.
I really like Alex Erricson and Veasy as young WR's. I hope they make the PS.

because of DW Texans probably cant do much at that position roster-wise unless somebody goes on IR. its A nightmare. I know some people want to make him play but it’s not clear if that can happen. We all know his demands but nobody has proposed or answered the question, I dont think, which is can they force him to play.

Unless the NFL has said something to the Texans behind the scenes, I don't see why they can't tell Watson to get in there, practice with the 1's, you're starting Sep. 12. He's under contract, the NFL hasn't shown any signs they're going to do something at this time, what's stopping him from being asked to do the job he's being paid to do?

Again, maybe the NFL has told the Texans something that hasn't been made public, which is why the Texans are treating it like they have with this 4th on the depth chart, and him not practicing with the team BS. Otherwise it makes no sense for the Texans to carry on with this like they have. Starting to think a trip to the CEL might be coming soon.

Simply because the McNairs don't want him representing their team/city.

I agree and in another thread I was wondering if the NFL stepped in and are calling the shots. It just seems ever since they seemed open to trading him the trade rumors actually dwindled and the Texans started answering every question about him with “ nothing has changed since yesterday“ rhetoric which sounds to me like a structured response. At least I hope that’s the case because if so they may actually be getting help from the NFL because really the nature of his trade demands are A League issue that perhaps the NFL didn’t want them to execute.
