Texans versus Buccaneers

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
He's a big strappin' young lad with a very powerful arm .... reminds me of a joke we used to tell about a gorilla that they taught to play golf !

Yup. He needs to learn to throw it away and play the next down. I will say, I think he looked better then tt though.

So we missed out by not having a kicker. Shoulda been 2 fg's and 1 xp leaving us tied up at 23...

I keep reading that Mills has a strong arm. Frankly, I just don’t see this strong arm QB. Too many floaters. I know it’s a small sample, but his arm does not seem stronger than Schaub.
No it's there. Not JaMarcus Russell strong but he did float a couple of out routes without his feet set. I'm genuinely not concerned about his arm strength. He has rookie decision making skills. Jmo

Was good catching up with you guys. I still follow the Texans, though admittedly from a distance now. I’ll keep popping in here and there and of course will keep this place running for you guys. Enjoy the season!

Hey man great to see you stop by. Congrats on getting a sb. You are board royalty. I appreciate what you do for the forum.

? did you watch him? Howell was 4 for 16 after Coutee screwed up his long run. Better than Lindsay and avg just under Ingram who is 32 YOA. An Ingram cut or trade save almost two million cap space.
I’ve always liked Howell, but can he pick up a blitz? Like Howell’s size and he can move a pile. Got Phillips as an Ingram body type so I’d prefer a trade. BTW looks like the Bills will have to cut a couple of pretty good backs. Keep an eye on Sargent.

He may make the roster, but he won't get a lot of playing time unless someone gets hurt.

Just as long as he makes the most out of his opportunities the reps will come regardless of injuries, that would only accelerate his process.

His explosiveness to hit the hole, then leg drive through contact gives him more upside in this offense than other backs. Would have thought Lindsay, but maybe his niche will be catching those short hitch throws from Tyrod.

At least they got to practice 4th down plays. That'll come in useful when we're behind 40 or 50 points.
At this time I don't think the question is how many games will we win but how many losses will be close as opposed to us being blown out and how many of those blowouts lead to records being broken? I hope like heck we don't have to turn to Davis Mills. With Tyrod Taylor when we play average to below average teams we will be competitive and we may win a few games.

I don't think we saw enough of TT this whole preseason to make any judgements as to how good or bad he may be. I think he is our best chance at winning just based on his experience alone. Davis Mills has far too much to learn and as far as I am concerned he left very little for me to be impressed with.

Hey I was called a ******* moron last night. Thought you couldn’t attack the poster but only the post. Unfortunately there is at least one “moderator” that plays political games against those he doesnt like and makes his own rules about what is or isnt political or religious, lol.
One of the mods also overlooks some posters that get off topic while taking some posters to task for it.

The most embarrassing losses came under the OB regime. No matter how “talented” the team was on paper they were good for at least two completely lifeless performances each season where they were down 4 tds or so by halftime. It did not matter if they were playing Super Bowl contenders or a .500 team it could happen any given week.

I don’t want to see that type of loss again. It usually starts off with a bunch of boneheaded penalties and turnovers that exacerbate themselves by boneheaded playcalls driving the team further down into the quicksand.

Who said winning was the Texans #1 priority this yr?

I do think that based on what we saw from the preseason we are better coached and the players seem inspired to play as opposed to playing with little to no enthusiasm. I think we have a fair chance at winning some games against the below average to average teams.

I am sure the coaching staff and the players have it as their priority. Up to the last preseason game I felt we could win at least 6 games and maybe even as many as 8 games. I am not so sure about that now. Still, as far as I am concerned I see it is a priority this year and I will see it that way every year no matter what the so called football experts and many football fans have to say. I don't think we will win a lot of games but I see winning as a priority always.

I said it last week and I’ll say it again. Just start Mills. We ain’t winning anything with Taylor. We will win games but he isn’t the future. Either Mills has it or doesn’t. And we need to know before the off season.

I didn't see them winning more than 4 games. Maybe up to 6 if they got lucky. Nothing that's happened this preseason has changed my thinking. This season is about developing a new culture and a new development program for the young players.

Mills is not ready to start, that's apparent, but the best way for him to get better is to make mistakes under live game conditions.

There is one option I mentioned a few years ago and was shot down for it - it's something that just isn't done in the NFL - and that is to split playing time. Several ways to implement this, but one is to have Taylor start, with Mills playing the 4th quarter. He earns increased playing time by improving his play.

6 to 8 games sounds about right. Defense and special teams may make us competitive against mid level competition. We still haven't seen our first team offense on the field. I think it's a correct assessment we'll be a low scoring offense, but if we can be moderately successful as a time consuming, grind it out, run offense, this will allow our defense to carry the team this season.
