OK. Speaking as a Texans fan I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it for a 4th rounder unless the Rams (or another team) eat most, if not all of his salary.

On the flip side, if the Texans brain trust do want the first pick in next years draft, maybe trading Lindsey would be something they would try to do. But then I'd question why they signed him to begin with.

Maybe badboy can think of a scenario. PL and LT for...
 
For a legitimate Super Bowl contender, like the Rams, that don’t even make it to training camp without losing projected feature back, your all in on finding his replacement, even if it means overpaying.

Far as I know sneaky Nick, paid nothing to the Broncos who didn’t match so only cost Texans around 3 million one year. So he’s a one year rental on the cheap. If blows up here or there he’s going to get paid next year.

Texans are not contenders they are starting over. Not saying I wouldn’t like to keep Lindsay and see how it works out but if opportunity knocks, Caserio will listen.

The stats I've seen is that drafting in the 4th round will net you about a 6% chance you've drafted a consistent starter (80 games started over 5 years, according to the study I read). That rate drops in each round following the 4th round by about 2%.

The Texans will probably have issues scoring points in 2021. Do you want to further eat into the offensive production by trading Lindsay for a 6% chance or less of drafting a future starter? That's the question.

For me, I'm not that passionate about the answer to that question because I feel the Texans are going to be borderline unwatchable this year regardless of any decision they make going forward regarding the talent on this team. Nevertheless, it's an interesting question and because I do find some entertainment value in watching the Texans play and be at least competitive, I lean towards not trading the Texans most promising running back, IMO.

I'm fine with trading Lindsay for a 4th. That 4th can be used to trade into the 2nd to get a top 50 pick. What are the percentages of top 50 picks being 10 yr starters? Trade your 3rd/Lindsay pick and a 6th. That will definitely get you into the top 50. Maybe you would only have to trade your 3rd and the Lindsay pick to get into the top 5o, since the Texans most likely will have a top 5 pick in the 3rd rd.

But that didn't happen.

So regardless what any of us think or believe, the Texans, Nick Caserio in particular, aren't acting like 2021 is a throw away season.

I want them to treat like a throw away. They're not acting like it's a throw away. That's what's frustrating me.

Every team goes into the season with aspirations of winning. No coach will tell there players or fans this is a throw away season. Especially not in the NFL. Now if the season isn’t going as planned, then they can start talking about draft positioning. One good example would be the Eagles. Nobody had them winning the Super Bowl let along having a successful season. They went into camp with their goals in place . They went out there against all odds and the reward was hoisting up that beautiful Super Bowl trophy.

None of the RBs on the roster is a cheap rental.
They all rank in the top 30 both in actual cash spent and cap space.

So given they are top 30 spent and cap space, think they keep 6 on the roster?

Probably release at least one, maybe PS for another, that leaves 4.

Johnson contract is dubious to say least, his best feature is catching out of the backfield, but his between the tackles done. That is Ingram's role. Lindsey can do both and is younger so they had to pay him free agent money, but still cheap (mostly because RB position is undervalued far as positions go). I'm not sure how much Burkhead has left in his tank and know nothing about Howell.
