Welcome Rex Burkhead RB

It does appear to be deep and I certainly hope you are correct. I was hoping to see Howell have a really good year.

He may surprise in training camp. But its a numbers game and Burkhead has succeeded whenever given the chance even in the biggest games. My favorite Burkhead game was the 2018 AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. Burkhead is the RB on the field when the Pats are driving late in the 4th quarter, Burkhead gets the go-ahead td with less than a minute to go... Chiefs kick a fg to push game to OT but Burkhead is again the RB Bellichek and Brady trust as he gets the ball 3 times in the redzone to get the game winning td to send the Pats to the Superbowl.

Even this past season he was arguably the most productive RB on the Pats roster until the season ending knee injury.

He’s not a bell cow back but he is one of the best change of pace swiss army knife RBs of the last 3-5 years. Hopefully CND gives his recovery from torn acl his stamp of approval and expectation to return to form!

I know we restructured David Johnson’s contract to a one year deal.

What kind of affect will his contract have on the Texans if they cut him? Dead money hit?

Board explosion? Calls to fire Caserio?

DJ has $4.2M dead cap if released, about half a mil savings on the cap. Just $3M dead, $1.7M savings, if traded.

I like the Ingram and Lindsey signings but this one doesn't do much for me. Burkhead is good when he's not hurt, but it seems to me like he misses at least 6 games every year.

Feels like they don't like Ingram, maybe not, but seems to be getting a full room. Are any of the backs not attending and leaning to support the union? Maybe they were one down

Expect teams to shift further and further away from a traditional “bell cow” RB with the schedule increasing to 17 game seasons. RBs will get hurt throughout the course of a season. Teams will want 2, 3, or in the Texans case 4 RBs that they can depend on instead of 1 bell cow.

So we now have David Johnson, Lindsey, Ingram, and Burkhead as "name" rbs in addition to a few others?

17 game season.
Emphasis on bruiser ol.
Dw out along with the passing game.

We're loading up to run. It's not going to be sexy. It's going to be a 3 yards and a cloud of dust kinda season.

(...I hope it's at least 3 yards.)

If the OL do their job, I'll take the over on Ingram & Lindsay. Heck, Burkhead too for that matter.

I can't see 4 RBs on the GameDay roster.

Does anyone know the cap ramifications if we cut/trade Ingram?

Of the 4 I'd rather keep Lindsay, Burkhead, & Ingram. But I don't see them cutting Dj

We'll be passing, just mostly short to intermediate. Probably close to 50/50, maybe just a tad favoring the run. Also, remember, Phillip Lindsay averaged 5.4 ypc his all-pro rookie season in 2018.

Our offense will be different from last year's Watson Offense, but we have the makings to field a very respectable offense.

Assuming our defense isn't outright atrocious, scores will be closer. Time of possession will mean more. Special teams will mean more. Turn overs will mean more. Game management by the coaching staff will be far more important.

I think DJ averaged about 4.5 ypc last year. Trade value?

Quite true but if a team falls behind by 10 or more, the running game could be a non factor. The added receiving value of DJ and Burkhead would hopefully help in those moments.

Big fan of Burkhead. Do everything back that will more than likely take Buddy Howell’s job as ST ace RB. This RB room is deep!
I don’t care which team Burkhead is coming from......he’s a hard-nosed player who comes to play everyday. Nice sign Caserio.
Remember how excited you were when Bob McNair sent the plane to pick up Ed Reed?

Good signing for the Texans. Nick Caserio is killing it.

Rex is a great Swiss army knife type RB/WR/small Hback. He is like a Wes Welker. A do it all and over achieve at his position
Eh... dude is not ready to play now. He's at OTAs in street clothes. & I believe I heard $2M guaranteed. So a bit of a head scratcher those two together.

So... Dj, Ingram, Lindsay, & Burkhead all missed multiple games due to injury last season. Burkhead is not ready to play today.

I'm excited about what could be. Not to thrilled with what is.

He tore his acl against the Texans last season. CND can weigh in on his health but nobody is participating in OTAs if they tore an acl last season. Heck the Colts starting LT (Eric Fisher) is going to be missing a good portion of the regular season before he can get on the field to show if he’s worth the signing. And he got 6 million guaranteed at signing per spotrac.

Burkhead is a low risk signing and if he hits great. If not, that 2 million is 2 of 182.5 in cap money the team has to work with this season.
Which is right in line with the 90 man roster limit to go to training camp. If the knee is ok he’s a lock to not only make the team but meaningfully contribute during the season. Worth the risk.
