Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

That's why the statutes of limitation are so long in sexual assault cases.

No , the women would NOT "have to press charges".

The DA is responsible for that .... the women simply "report the incident" to law enforcement.




The Feds could certainly be a part of it though. They almost never convict, but it is usually a good way to force a plea to something like RICO. Keith Raniere is the only notable sex trafficking conviction in recent times. And he was the genius that literally recorded himself telling his second in command to do the sex trafficking. They tried it on Epstein and R. Kelly, but they ended up with lesser charges.

I wouldn't worry about federal charges .... on the state charges , Watson would be looking at 2-20 years PER charge.

All but two of the suits involve plaintiffs who say they were contacted for massage appointments in 2020. The other two incidents, also involving massage therapists, allegedly occurred in January and March of 2021.
The suits allege Watson forced two women to perform oral sex, ejaculated in front of three women and on another, groped a woman’s vagina and buttocks and kissed another woman unprompted upon arrival for an appointment. Eleven of the 13 publicly available suits accuse Watson of inappropriately touching women with his penis. One alleges that at the end of a massage, after trying to direct a woman to touch his anus, Watson exposed himself and asked if she "did more" than professional work "for more money."

While true, if the victims don't cooperate, the DA will rarely move it forward. Sadly, this is why a lot of rape cases get dismissed. Hard to have a "he said, she said" when you only get what he said. Rape cases are hard enough to prove as is.

What I'm realizing is that the people who took action (Momma Watson & Janice) believed that DHop was the "problem" and they were trying to "protect Watson" ..... apparently they had some misinformation on who the "bad guy" was in that.
What they did , didn't solve the problem because the problem didn't walk out the door.

Its hard to blame them based off of who they were and where the information originated.
The team learned about this from Momma Watson (via Easterby?) , of course she's going to be biased so she gave a one sided account to Janice who made the ultimate decision.

We can't forget the DHop / OB discussion about Baby Momma's .... it didn't help the optics.

Under those circumstances , who wouldn't have acted in such a way considering the facts as they were known and the value of one player vs the other to the franchise ?
They were protecting their investment and their future in Watson .... That doesn't excuse the poor return on the best WR in the league.

Well, Rusty Hardin is no slouch either. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

It’s easy to think Watson is just another perverted, entitled athlete. The specificity in the claims is damning.

It’s also easy to see Buzbee as just a headline chaser, better suited to class-action suits. Why he took these is an interesting question itself.

Have to consider that the departure of Hop combined with the pandemic to have the opposite effect to that intended, actually pushes Watson to desperately change his M.O. with disastrous consequences.

He’d previously had a running mate who possibly held him from the worst of his excesses and easy access to consenting prostitutes.

That’s the thing. He could have paid high end escorts and remained anonymous rather than some $200 maybe licensed Instagram masseuses and be in the spot he is in now.

There isn’t a definition of how stupid he is.

The range for sexual assault in Texas is between 2-20 years for each case.

Considering the number of cases , I suspect the DA would try to portray Watson as a sexual predator and go for the max on each conviction and run them consecutively.

Limiting the damage to the low end might be considered a win ....

Unfortunately, if all of this is true about Watson, it would be a very tough road to get a conviction.

The dude has tons of resources and the best defense money can buy
His accusers are either sex workers of a sort, or can be easily framed in that light by Hardin
They have no evidence to back up their claims, as far as we know
They filed a civil suit with an ambulance chaser that a jury could easily see as a cash-grab
If they refuse to cooperate with prosecution, then it looks like a false claim

If you have ever had a loved one go through a rape, and try to get in prosecuted, you know how difficult it is to even get to a grand jury.

It shouldn't matter if a woman is a sex worker, but juries tend to look down on them.

And that is before Hardin pulls out any Chewbacca Defense bullshit.

i don’t think think these women have choices and can just refuse clients JW and ruin their reputation by refusing folks especially when $$$ bring food to the table. Hence vulnerable.

People like Watson preys on that fact.

his not guilty yet, should not have said that, but the story is the same on all. His guilty or this is the biggest undertaking to destroy an innocent man in athletic history. Was/is a likeable good guy so it seems.

After the Kobe Bryant rape fiasco of how the accuser got outed and her sec history public the number of reported rapes went down considerably.

We have to remind ourselves men and women are two different animals with a different set of emotional makeup.

None of the plaintiffs are likely to be minors................BUT, let me throw this little known Texas statute............the statute of limitations does not apply if there is evidence that the defendant committed the same or a similar sexual assault against 5 or more other victims. In such cases, the time during which a charge can be filed is unlimited!

Man, I am militantly, unabashedly straight. I love breasts and butts and thighs and you name it as much as I guess any similarly-minded male does.

But holy crap I couldn't ever imagine giving enough of a **** about it to do all the **** Watson (and so many others) are and have been alleged to do. What a hassle. Too much work. It's a whole to-do. And uh, depending on the acts or whatever if Watson was violent or forceful or whatever, then obviously illegal and scummy on top of it.

Then again, I'm not a star 25 year quarterback with millions of dollars to my name.

But still. Even more reason to be exhausted. Who needs it bro. Put on a video and finish in 10 minutes in time for Seinfeld.

We're up to 13 civil suits and if they turn criminal he would face up to 20 years on each count which adds up to 260 years .... there may be no getting out.

Hell if he were convicted on only one criminal count and the DA asked for and got the maximum 20 he'd serve 16 years before being parole eligible as Texas mandates 80% of the sentence served on sex crimes.

I think "If he gets out ..." is applicable .
 
Of course he has a future in this game. The people running the league and in the media and fans are hypocrites. They'll post their hashtags and their cute little videos and photo filters and brands all across the sports world will post their trite statements.

Then they'll demand he come back. They'll turn a blind eye because he's approved. A victim of circumstances and misunderstood and whatever else.
