Welcome to Houston Terrance Mitchell

Caserio’s favorite band? The Who of course. I kid I kid
Another guy I had not heard of but after doing a little research it looks like Terrance Mitchell is a very solid corner. He started all 16 games last season for the Browns, playing in 99.4% of the defensive plays. He had 65 tackles last season, 13 passes defended, forced 3 fumbles and had 2 tackles for loss.

I really like this move a lot.

He's a 2nd tier starter. But atleast he's durable.

Roby/Mitchell/Draft pick and the CB room will be improved. I would like Caserio to draft 2 CB's and a S in this draft.

This thread and others has been talkin about our salary cap and how that will impact Watson being traded. If he is traded it will not impact the salary cap for 7 days. Caserio has that time to adjust the cap as I understand.
I created this thread about Terrance Mitchell. I don't think anyone mentioned Watson being traded in this thread until your post.

If you want this to be another Watson thread that's cool with me. I'm more interested in the defense because I believe that's the area that needs the most attention.

Really? Your comment suggests your thread was about the cap and how the wide receiver signed impacted that. my apologies.

I had no thoughts of turning it into a Watson thread but in reality I guess your cap question could have gone in other threads also.

Solid?? He had a 105.8 passer rating against. Hargreaves was 109.1. 14.2 yards per reception allowed on 8.3 yards per target. VH was 12.4 yards per catch, 8.5 yards per target. Mitchell did allow just 58.6% completion percentage, which is pretty good, but Keion Crossen and Phillip Gaines had decent completion percentages too.

This is also a guy that was a Texans camp cut in 2016.

Mitchell was better in 2018 & 2019 when he played in the nickel. Playing full time exposed him. If Lovie can keep him in the nickel, Mitchell should be better than Hargreaves.

Still, Caserio paid too much for a backup. A recurring theme thus far.

How much would you have paid.

A nickel isn't a backup in today's NFL.

I hope Caserio drafts a couple of more corners in the 3rd/4th Rd.

I wouldn’t have given him a raise from what he was making last year, as Caserio did.

But I’m ignoring the elephant in the room. That the Texans have to overpay FAs. Even bottom tier guys like Mitchell. Caserio is in a tough position. But guys making that kind of money don’t get sympathy from me.

He's really not getting paid much and I'm pretty sure they can cut him after 1 yr without cap ramifications.

Agreed about the elephant in the room. Good news is the moves are all short term contracts.

Lol, the fact that that’s your only argument against any of these deals pretty much tells me that you have no argument and you’re flying by the seat of your pants.

Did you by chance happen to see what the Pats agreed to pay Jonnu Smith? What about the Titans with Bud Dupree or the WFT for Fitzpatrick?

Free agency & overpay go hand in hand ACROSS THE ENTIRE LEAGUE...& this isn’t even to say that NC “overpaid” for any of the guys we have deals in place for.

.

These are pretty good players that can help teams win. Not backend of the roster fodder the Caserio has concentrated picking up.

And he is high character always a plus with Cal and Easterby. But he is very good and a legit hard worker.

With no cap room and large roster holes to fill, who else were they going to sign?

Just saying, all of that doesn't mean they aren't tanking, as TK seems to be under the impression that they aren't because of the signings. They can sign all of these guys they want, even if it is all they can do, and overpay them too for that matter, but it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't in tank mode. They still have a team primarily full of backup level talent.

If they’re tanking I would not expect them to sign players to 6 and 7 million dollar deals. Who says they’re tanking? Not me. That’s my point.

Then they’re doing it wrong. Sign Joe nobody for league minimum. Roll over everything else.

Do they want to play for the Texans?
No JB. And the Texans couldn't afford them if they did. It's a strawman that @Mr teX brought up.

If you want to comment on my posts rather than be flippant, read what I'm trying to say. This organization is wasting resources and time with these old, worthless, backend signings. I would rather them use young players to fill these spots.

Did you know that last years (2020) UDFA class was basically non-existent, due to the lack of mini-camps and shortened preseason? Combine with these year's class, and it's the biggest bonanza of cheap, young talent the NFL has ever seen in one season. That's what this organization needs to be searching for. That's how they will climb out of mediocrity. Cheap, good players on UDFA contracts filling the last 10-15 roster spots. Special teamers that can be coached up to reserves and possibly starters.

But hey, let's celebrate a bunch of never have been, or never will be 28-30 year old backups. Go Texans.

NC is enjoying the power of a first-time GM.
Doing a lot of nothing.

It was a good move. Question is what is going on that he can sign guys left and right and not end up well over the cap? Could it be Watson trade lead up?
???
With all of this bumping the cap up that they're doing, they're making it where they can't trade Watson. Or at least making it harder.

Hiring Caserio might be a right choice. Give him time at least.

I think the problem is many of us were expecting a proper rebuild & that’s not what Nick is doing. To me it looks like he’s trying to build a competitive team in a weak division.

I truly would like that. Winners win, or at least do everything they possibly can. Losers lose, looking forward to that magical day that never comes, when everything goes their way.

The only move that really irks me is Tyrod Taylor. I’ve never been a fan.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be flippant. I was just asking a question based on that one comment. My memory doesn't allow for much more than that

Nick is assembling really good roster instead of raiding the practice squads and UDFA market like BOB did.

Impressive actually.

I think were gonna have success in the long run with his approach.

Culley is the Key here. If he is what I think he is we should have success by 2023 if nick hits on the next 2 drafts.

Are you for the tank or not?

Short term deals for guys that can be cut after next yr wont hurt a thing in this regard.

Hopefully Caserio can find a couple of legit starter out of this group and then draft a couple of starters. I would consider that to be a successful offseason.

Dont worry they will be able to trade DW4.

The question is when?

Who are these young players you want them to sign?

Some of the guys they've signed are young guys.

I'm happy that they're all on short term deals. So the rebuild can really start to take shape next offseaon with a bunch of cap space and what should be high draft picks. This is with or without DW4.

In case details of the contract haven't been posted yet.

According to Over the Cap, 3 million guaranteed

"Terrance Mitchell signed a 2 year contract with the Houston Texans on March 18, 2021. Contract value is $6.5 million with $3 million in guarantees. Mitchell can earn an additional $1 million through incentives."

Are you for the tank or not?
I don't know what Caserio is trying to do. Whether it's trying to compete or trying to tank, he's doing it wrong.

What do I think is going to happen? 2021 is going to be epically bad. What concerns me for the future? I don't see this organization making 2022 and beyond much better.
