Hargreaves back on a one year deal

I like Hargreaves as a cost effective floor for the DB room.
Game plans were built around targeting Vernon Hargreaves. Winning game plans.

Just a reminder. Nick Caserio is the GM of the Houston Texans. Not Bill O'Brien. Can't blame him for this.

He was one of Jason Licht's worst picks outside of taking that kicker in the 2nd round. Surprised that he's still in the league.
I found this piece of pre-draft gold, when looking for vernon's contract amount (still have not seen)
Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III laced up the shoes and took his turn at the 40-yard dash on Monday.

Widely considered the best pure cornerback prospect in the draft, Hargreaves clocked unofficial times of 4.41 and 4.43 in his first two runs. His official 40-yard dash time came in at 4.50 seconds.

Sherman is making just less than $15 million per year while Peterson gets about $13 million per year, and Norman is about to get a big pay increase after the season he put up. So, you could argue Hargreaves may be next in line as one of the NFL’s highest paid corners.

Hargreaves has the hip movement and footwork to be a lockdown corner at the next level, and while the speed he flashed in the 40-yard dash isn’t supernatural, it shouldn’t drop him out of the top-10 picks in the 2016 NFL Draft.

His ballhawking ability has NFL general managers in need of secondary help drooling. Hargreaves recorded 10 career interceptions while at Florida, and he consistently played on an island, matched up against opposing teams’ top wideouts.

Current projections show Hargreaves and Florida State’s Jalen Ramsey as the top two defensive backs in the NFL Draft. But Ramsey is expected to convert to safety while Hargreaves is a true corner.

Its a one year deal , with or without Watson this season is gonna result in a very poor record.

Assuming this deal is for very little money , I got no problem with it ..... This to me seems a situation where you are paying a poor to middling players to be just that in order to gain the desired result ...... Embrace the tank.

One of the things I was looking forward to in the 2021 season is not having to deal w/ Vernon Hargreaves anymore. I guess the Texans want to continue to torture me. 😥

Further Vernon Hargraves entertainment https://www.si.com/nfl/texans/news/whats-texans-reasoning-for-bringing-back-cb-hargreaves
Last season, Hargreaves elected to return to Houston on a one-year deal worth $1.325 million. The 30th-ranked defense struggled to stop the run, allowing an average of 160.3 yards per game. Houston also ranked last in interceptions with three total turnovers...

The hope for Houston - and the reasoning behind his return - is that new defensive coordinator Lovie Smith can play an integral role in fixing veterans such as Hargreaves. The Texans are moving from their base 3-4 front to a new 4-3 Tampa 2 style of play for the first time in over a decade. A source indicates to TexansDaily.com that hope there is a "fit'' there ... and they believe Hargreaves can be "coached up.'

The only thing I can think of with this signing is that they think he’ll be better in a pure zone scheme....other than that, I don’t mind the signing if he comes back as a special teamer...if he’s in the secondary playing any significant snaps......:toropalm:

Why would he even be a good special teamer? He's a horrible tackler.

Still haven't seen a contract amount yet. If he’s #4 or 5 on the roster - ok. More then that and its not bueno.

...this man is in a huge disadvantage.
If you're paid top 3 GM money, you should be winning every deal. What about re-signing Hargreaves looks like a win to you?

Caserio isn't 2nd banana anymore. He's supposed to be the man, now. So, he needs to be judged like he's the man.

Lets wait until the draft and during the season before we start judging Caserio.

So far he's taken out quite a bit of the trash. Cant wait until he finishes by getting Cunningham/Mercilus off of the roster.

Funny. I didnt see that the news that he made the 2021 roster. Could be there for vet exposure in TC due to the roster turnover.

Would we wait to comment on O'Brien's deals? No. Makes zero sense. This is just as dumb as O'Brien re-signing Hargreaves last year. Dumber, because we've seen Vernon over an entire season.
