They really just wanted a dude that could introduce Deshaun Watson at press conferences the right way:
Not gonna' lie, I cracked up when I first saw this a couple of seasons ago.
Just consider the frozen TV dinner to be the perfect metaphor for the 2021 Texans season. It'll probably give you a stomach ache and eventually just smell like bad gas.
Glad I'm not the only one that felt this way. Obligatory preface of "he's a nice man" out of the way, I just don't get any sort of head coaching vibe from the guy.
I do not sense that he has any sort of vision for the long term plans of this franchise, and it honestly feels like he knows that he's got 2-3 years to make some great money, smile and be nice to Houston fans, and help build the much advertised "high character culture" that seems like the new corporate mission statement for this organization.
He never said that during the official presser. The "right now" statement was made in a separate interview with Jim Trotter and Steve Wyche.
How the man could give two different messages is beyond me for a professional football coach in the NFL. But, then again, it's the Houston Texans and stumbling and bumbling through things seems to be their current M.O.
