It wasn’t a bad interview. You can tell he was instructed to answer the Questions about Watson a certain way. And he stuck to the script. Thus the reason some people thought he sounded clueless. The interview was posted on the Welcome to Houston David Culley, Head Coach thread.

Yeah, I looked at both sets of stats earlier today. A. Ingram. B. David Johnson. They're both on the down side of their careers. I don't expect their numbers to improve in 2021.

Ingram was fairly productive in the first 5 games last year before he sustained a high ankle sprain in the 6th game and missed a few games.
That type of injury can linger on for a good while.
During his absence, the 2nd Rd rookie JK Dobbins really came on.
For those two reasons, Ingram was never really a part of the 3-man rotation in the second half.

I think this is a good, solid pick up if that injury heals well. He's better than what the Texans had had for quite awhile now; and as mentioned above, he's got good ball security.
He runs to daylight and is hard to bring down at 5'9 and a load.
I listened to it on the radio - thrice .... watched it on television - twice .... you are correct ! He followed it quickly with an "anything can happen !" He stayed focused on the steps, while he danced as fast as ever he could. Meanwhile, the 3 Stooges huddled behind the curtain, mouthing - "don't you dare stop" .... "we need to see some courage from our new Head Coach" !
How can you hear anything when you already know everything?

I like the pick up although they are a few years too late; I wanted them to get Ingram 2 years ago when left NO.
still, he’s a vet guy who missed a lot of time last year b/c of injury & doesn’t have a problem sharing the rock as he’s been doing it his entire career in NO and Bal. I know he’s 30, but he doesn’t have as much wear on him as folks here think. The Ravens had a logjam at the position last year with him, Edwards, Hill..and then they brought in Dobbins. He was most likely gonna be the odd guy out.

Plus he breaks tackles which is something Johnson doesn't do. I suspect Ingram will be the early down back and Johnson the 3rd down back.
That felt like a lot more than 349 yards.
The ypc numbers are interesting. Doesn’t look like downside of career. More like their teams had better options. Or at least more preferable options.

Glad I'm not the only one that felt this way. Obligatory preface of "he's a nice man" out of the way, I just don't get any sort of head coaching vibe from the guy.
I do not sense that he has any sort of vision for the long term plans of this franchise, and it honestly feels like he knows that he's got 2-3 years to make some great money, smile and be nice to Houston fans, and help build the much advertised "high character culture" that seems like the new corporate mission statement for this organization.

2 back set, one being a pass catcher and the other a bruiser. If DW stays, we utilize his legs more ala Lamar Jackson and the Texans suddenly have a lethal run threat which opens the passing game immensely. Watch for personnel tweaks to the Offensive line that would signify run heavy offense.

its not 2 different messages unless you’re looking for it to be. Fact is everyone is expecting DW4 to be traded at some point. folks are being egged on by the media are also hinging on every single word said....or not said. “Right now” is just 1 of those phrases that can be thrown in at the end of almost every sentence in almost every conversation. It speaks more to comfortability with the person/people you’re talking to more than anything else.
so it’s not surprising he would use that phrase when talking to a single guy like Jim Trotter....someone he’s probably known for years...vs a thirsty mob of media types asking him the same damn question over and over.
For the record I believe there will be an attempt to trade DW4 sometime around the draft. Whether or not it actually comes together is another matter. If it doesn’t, I’m confident that NC will be more than fine with letting DW4 sit the entire season if that’s what he chooses. So The posturing by the FO and by extension Culley isn’t b/c as another of these moronic talking heads have said “desperate and praying he comes back into the fold” although I believe they’d accept him with open arms if he chose to. The posturing is to shift all this onto DW4 and the market itself; basically saying to him we’re not trading you just for your sake & because you asked us to...& to other teams.....if you want him, come correct. I just hate to see Culley getting ripped apart and called clueless b/c he’s not telling everyone what they want to hear and how they want to hear it. Best believe he knows the ins/outs of what the plan is...he just has a **** poker face.
In that regard DW4 not the team, has a decision to make about whether or not he wants to play in the 2021 season. Word is, he’s prepared to sit the entire season............ok.
Amongst the things the FO has on their side is time...& don’t let this team mess around and be competitive next year. We will most definitely suck....but if this team winds up winning more games than we did this past year without him.....with us getting back our full compliment of picks in 2022..then the support DW4 enjoys now will begin to dry up even more. This is what’s going on with OBJ and the Browns now.
The Texans should NOT want that in anyway IF Watson returns.

However, as you & a couple others have commented regarding recent signings & restructuring, I don’t get the feeling Nick Caserio is in tank mode.
I don't think Watson's two knees could withstand that kind of gameplan week in and week out. Plus it's not utilizing one of his greatest strengths i.e. scrambling guys open and his passing game.
Fair enough. I think Culley was being honest in the Trotter interview. He knows they will probably make a trade before the draft when Watson's value and demand will be the highest, and he let it slip out in that interview.
He never got close to saying "right now" in the official press conference, so I'm not buying that it's just a phrase that gets thrown around in this case. If they were truly serious about playing the long game and there is no talk inside the building about potential trades, then there is no "right now" that needs to be quantified. Their position would simply be they are never making a deal and 2021 offseason is preparing like Watson will be the starting QB. And ALL of his media interactions would reflect that position.
We are not in disagreement overall. I believe he let his guard down a little with the Trotter interview. If it matters to the Texans or not is anyone's guess. I perceive it as conflicting messages between the two interviews, but that's just splitting hairs at this point.
OK. But what does Caserio know about tanking? Caserio never endured a losing season until his last year in New England (7-9). I thought he was brought in to take the team to the next level, not tear it down to the ground.

the team was already laying on the ground face 1st with a scraped knee. All Caserio has done thus far is turn us over, sit us up and put a band aid on our scraped knee. Depending on what happens with DW4 in the near future will determine if he attempts to stand us back up on our feet now or wait until 2022 to do so. My guess is 2022. All 2021 is about is getting us going in the right direction......which he has done with the moves he’s made.
I've tried those at my wifes request ..... I wasn't at al impressed . Maybe I'm just spoiled by my own cookin .... I make everything from scratch with fresh ingredients.

Oh I much prefer my own cooking but if I'm in a hurry and want to eat in 10-15 min. they are not bad. Much better than those TV dinners which was my point. PF Changs are the best but you need to make some rice which is easy. When we were without power for 4 days they were a life saver.

I agree. It's really nothing new. And I don't fault him for towing the company line at any point. He's a good soldier. He knows Watson is not going to play here after talking directly with him.
I don't see the Texans enduring this situation through an entire season and waiting until off-season 2022. It's way too much heat. So, if a trade is inevitable (speculation, of course), the most likely window will be before this year's draft in order to maximize value. It screws with their cap, but we all know the 2021 season is most likely going to be a lost cause anyway.
Culley's "slip" with Trotter might have inadvertently done them a favor in the sense that teams that are currently interested will stay interested and be ready to make a deal. Heck, if I was Caserio, I'd wait until the week of the draft and have a blind auction where any team interested sends in their best offers. Nobody would know what other teams are offering, so they'd sweeten the deal just to make the biggest impact. Just me talking, though, not like I have any clue what they will do or what other teams could offer.
