Easterby’s Takeover complete..Watson wants out

Stopped buying jerseys 20 years ago. Most players dont care about the city or franchises they play for. The players nor the owners aren’t left holding the bag when stuff like this happens, it’s always the fans.

Most of mine have been gifts. The curse of a Texans fans is getting gear and crass merchandising with Texans logo every birthday and Christmas. lol

Only ones I bought were a couple of customized and a slightly used JJ Watt military tribute from Ebay.

I'm a Houston fan for life, so just venting. Depressing - in the "football bubble", of course, none of this should be real world for any of us - to be a fan of a team that clearly won't be any good for years to come. This franchise is run by nincompoops, but that in itself can be entertaining. . .is a sort of depraved way.

Deshaun Watson should say screw the Texans. They are a bottom rung organization and I don’t blame him one bit for wanting to get tf outta town.

——-

The Texans should say screw your trade request. You signed a contract. QBs are hard to find and you either trust us that we are going to build this the right way or retire.

Yep. I can see both sides, as well.

So it essentially comes down to if you're a Texans fan or a Deshaun Watson fan. I'm both, but ultimately, I'll be a Houston fan long after both have left the city. :winky:

I bought one jersey in my life, it was a Texans number 17 jersey because I bought into the idea of a player as the face of the team. Have never bought a player jersey since, to easy for them to break your heart and your wallet.

The only Texans jerseys I've bought are a JJ Watt one that I felt compelled to get after he signed his extension because he was/is such an exemplary human being and has luckily continued to show pretty much nothing but, and a Demeco Ryans one because I loved him as a player and quite frankly he still carries himself well and I hope he kills it as DC partly because I grew up as a 49ers fan and they're my "escape" team.

But yeah, don't think I'm ever buying a jersey of any player in any sport for any team I follow that hasn't retired yet.

The only one I ever bought was AJ.
Still have that one hanging next to my Ray Childress Columbia Blue 79

I remember those days. We were so hopeful and naive. Crazy kids. lol

The only jersey I'd want to buy at this point, and probably the last one, is a #34 Houston Oilers jersey. Pure nostalgia, of course, but those were the days when I didn't care about owner stuff and just had fun being a football fan as a kid.

I have to wonder how losing Watson is going to sit with Janice McNair? How close is she to Easterby? Will she allow this situation to continue to go downhill like a runaway train? Maybe the two mommies need to get together, again?

Don't worry Deanne. You know boys will be boys. I put Cal on an allowance have you thought about that with your son?

I reluctantly bought a David Carr jersey. Two maybe three Andre Johnson jerseys. I’ve probably got 6 Foster jerseys. If they do a special type, I’d get the Foster one. A couple of Watt jerseys & a Tytus Howard jersey

One thing the Texans don’t have right now is money, and no one is taking a pay cut once Deshaun leaves. Like the lions, Texans will have to pay a premium and that’s something that can’t afford.
That is incorrect. There are many posts including mine on this MB showing how cap space can be increased through trades and cuts. Trading JJ Watt will bring 17.5 million cap space in and of itself. I also posted a link in the 2021 cap space thread by Cloak nnn Dagger that the reduction cap space does not appear to be as first predicted. The funds generated during the playoffs greatly exceeded all expectations with a Super Bowl still ahead.

Only jerseys I've ever bought have my own name and number.

lol I just remembered my then-girlfriend back in 2004 or so got me one with my FIRST name?!

Appreciated the gesture even if I was perplexed at the first name thing but I threw that jersey away long ago when I thought that maybe it was the reason for the Texans being cursed.

Turns out it wasn't.

At least it did not have her first name on your jersey

Hey guys im new here but been lurking around here like forever and untill now (yes i know this is not the first kindergardenbehaviour this franchise have fone but hey i suport Hammarby in Sweden we have won the league 1 time in over 100 years and has had a dysfunctional FO for the most part of our existance) but this just got me to join in and have a go in the discussions. This dude, easterby, how is it even remotely possible he is still here and how come no other player current or former speak out about him? Ive seen AJs tweet but still? Do something to get the maniac out. Its almost DW4 is making himself a martyr just to get it done. Easter... dont even wanna name him, reminds me so much of that snaketongue guy in lord in the rings if u know who im speaking off.
Sorry if this makes no sense at all or if my english is incorrect il try to make more sense and maybe take a deep breath before i keep on posting and join in the conversations.
PS these situations are so unfamiliar with me from Sweden following sports here where the owner has to be the club itself with their members, one individual can only own 49% of a club but i know how the things work in the US since following Texans back when we hired Kubiak and also following NHL where swedes are actually pretty decent haha

Skol! Your English is great. Here in 'Merica we allow our teams to be 100% controlled by one person and we allow that owner to surround himself with as many idiots as he'd like. It's really no more complicated than that.

do u think the jets even wanna trade with us ...???

Yep, but our GM is going to offer a fair trade, but not a ridiculous haul. The #2 overall is really valuable this year. I think Wilson is going to be an exciting player. If we don't get Deshaun, Wilson is a great consolation prize to build around - even if he looks like he's 12. 😂

Thank you and skål! Ye i just am baffled that no others then AJ what i know of goes out in public and tell you the truth, if you need change its up to the those who feel this is ludacris to say something since clearly they dont care what we the fans think. I wonder how it would be handled if more former players (or current if they got the guts) went out and told it as it is. The FO would probably not do much but still, this is something u almost have to do if u wanna get rid of the snaketongue.

was gifted a ticket to go see texans play in London ’19 and wanted to watch watt who was injured then ofcourse hop and watson and in almost less then 20 months noone of the faces of the team is left haha

They got rid of the guys with enough juice to rock the boat (Clowney/Hopkins) and it's a battle of wills with the last one (Watson) that can do anything about the problem. The brass is dug in that this is how they want to do things so we either find star players that can abide by the way we are, or we suck for as long as the McNairs own the team.

Alright that’s one cut, 17.5 on the books. But that will go very quick What else you got? And who do you get to replace JJ?

There are two significant cap links you can use to determine those answers or you can spend some time and research here what others have said. Charles Omenihu is my replacement for JJ Watt.

Welcome! Your English is better than mine. Take deep breath but post anyway. Always good to get others opinions and POV.

We allowed Bob and Janice McNair to spend $700 million ?:smiliepalm::spit:

We might see JJ Watt do a "tell all" if he is traded this off season.

Just curious? If DW4 hadn't signed the extension how long would the texans have controlled him? 3 more years?
IIRC, he was in his 4th season. 2021 would have been his 5th year option and final-year the team could have controlled him. His four-year extension that begins in 2022 signed 2020. I hope this helps?

Roughly if they played out the full franchise tags but honestly I don’t think they would have been able to. His tag number would have been a bigger cap hit then what his current contract calls for on the next two years and they are already in cap hell.

If he hadn’t signed they would have had him one more year guaranteed and then they might could have tighten their belts enough to have him on the tag another year but the rest of the team would have been made up of the cheapest things they could find.

Clowney had nothing to do with nothing. He simply wasn’t worth the 2nd contract he was asking for. He wasn’t worth the franchise tag. If Watson is trying to force management to make more bad decisions than they make on their own... I’m out. Let him go.

Hopkins, Brown, Brooks, Matthieu... yes. We should have handled those situations better. Whitney, Martin, Reader... yes there is a problem on what we value vs what wins games & needs to be fixed.

But Clowney... that & firing BO’b are the only things this org has done right since Bob passed away (rip).

Watson could have been exclusive franchise tagged for 3 consecutive seasons (2022-2024). But those tag numbers in 2023 and 2024 would have been outrageous.

Maybe, but they never finished up on it. You don't want to give Clowney a 2nd contract, fine. You want to make a bad deal getting rid of him, and paying half his contract too? Stupid, but OK, done. What needed to be done next, though, has yet to be done, and that's find a replacement for him.

Same thing they did with Duane Brown. I don't care what the issues were that eneded up in getting him out, they didn't finish it by getting his replacement. And when they finally did, they were in desperation mode and ended up paying a fortune. And now the reason why they paid all of that to get Tunsil here, may be the next man out the door. I mean, you can't make this **** up.

At least with Hopkins they did try with Cooks. You can't deal from a postion of strength and not only not get back something that strengthens you elsewhere, but never replacing the strength you had. That's how you end up with a football team full of overpaid JAGs with no cap space or draft capital left to do anything about it.

That still leaves us $1M over the cap. Deeper cuts need to be made.

You can only cut so much before you start eating up the money you saved to sign replacements. Most likely overpaid JAGs, as the deep cuts are all starters. Wouldn’t be as big of an issue if you could build through the draft but this team is currently depleted in that category. The Watson trade would help, but I still see this team taking at least 2 seasons to be out of cap hell.

Going back to my original point, if Watson leaves the Texans will have to overpay for talent and will most likely settle for overpaid mid tier players. Not exactly a solid foundation for a rebuild. Seems like they’re 2 seasons out from a real rebuild post-Watson.

Im a sink or swim kind of guy so I’m genuinely intrigued to see how Caserio maneuvers through the next season. Right now he sees to be drowning but there’s still plenty of time to turn it around.
