Welcome to Houston Jack Easterby

Let's review the timeline, it may not mean anything to you but it does to me.

Nov. 3 - US election
Nov. 7 - Amy Palcic on her social media accounts congratulating and promoting Kamala Harris.
Nov. 11 - Palcic fired for not being a "Cultural Fit"

Personal Note: How does your award winning, well liked, most appreciated VP of Public Relations get fired for not being a "Cultural Fit"? Firing someone for political differences is just plain wrong, mean and nasty. I'm sorry but to me this has Janice McNair's doings all over it (AGAIN).

Many of Amy's media friends reached out to Amy the day of her firing (as noted by Amy on her social media). By the end of the day the cockroaches at NBC/SI/PFT were coming out of the woodwork with pitchforks and fire ready to tar feather Jack Easterby:
Former Patriots chaplain Jack Easterby is at it again down in Houston | RSN (nbcsports.com)

Texans fire top P.R. executive, citing lack of "cultural fit" - ProFootballTalk (nbcsports.com)

Jack Easterby's rise to power and mismanagement of Houston Texans - Sports Illustrated

Peter King: Texans exec Jack Easterby a ‘hated man’ (radio.com)

Now I ask, when was the last time there was this much brouhaha about a culture coach/Chaplin and a public relation exec?

Look I don't like Jack Easterby, never have. However when I started reading and watching the first articles about Jack I thought WOW this is yellow journalism, these guys are not reporting they are really going after Easterby. They're trying to do personal harm. Then when it was reported that Rootes fired Amy they did not retract their stories or apologize they just poured on more gasoline on their Easterby fires.
This seems to be a Liberal or Conservative topic. Correct me if I am wrong. I don't like people being fired over politics but it is becoming the new normal..sadly

Ok now that is the full article. But tell me what position Cal was talking about in the text below. He was an advisor and basically a chaplain. Is that the role he means? Or something totally different?

"The scrutiny on Jack is really unjustified," McNair said. "Jack was put into that role the organization needed by me. If missteps were made during that process, we'll own those within our building. Jack will (return) to the role he was brought here for and what he grew into after he got here."

What are the top 3 reasons to fire Easterby?

1. Firing Gaine without first securing Caserio in an off-season move that made us a national laughingstock and threatened tampering punishment. Zero foresight on this. Easterby may not have had the final say on any of this ,but he was definitely a key player in the incident.

2. Following that incident there was almost no real search for a gm. O'Brien secured that position with Easterby's endorsement because it enhanced Easterby's authority. There was no system of checks and balances against O'Brien at that point - no professional buffer between a delusional temper tantrum weilding gm/coach and an owner to naive or meek to tell him no. Easterby's ambition for his own gain lead to that.

3. Hopkins. I've seen conflicting reports here on whether the trade was a directive from ownership or O'Brien. It doesn't matter. Once they decided to move him they did so without shopping him around the league for fair value. Reports I've seen argued only 3-5 teams even knew he was up for trade and the deal was done fast. Wiser council would've suggested (demanded) they shop him to all but afc south rivals and waited to get the best return. We literally traded one of the best wrs of the decade away for nothing. Easterby played a role in that and its unforgivable.

4. I know you said not to say "because Watson is unhappy." I get it, but let's talk about why he's unhappy and what lead to it. Two missteps here as far as I can tell: 1. Why is any player involved in the gm/hc selection process? Is this normal and i missed headlines? I don't think so. 2. If you did make that promise (that dw would have a say) why didn't you follow through? Lying to any employee be it at McDonald's or an nfl franchise is bad business. This team has at best 3 genuine assets - Tunsil, Watt, and Dw. At least 2 of them are publicly pissed off. We are effectively without a gm and hc right now so that places the blame squarely on Cal and Easterby. I tend to side with ownership when a dispute happens and a player is under contract but not in this instance. This franchise is operationally stupid. We can't get rid of cal but we can jettison Easterby....

Its time to go.

This franchise is a mess.
So this moral man lies to employees in order to out the SI story. An excellent example of character he's setting.

According to three sources, Easterby told multiple people inside the building that he had sued, or planned to sue, SI for defamation, and had therefore been provided with a list identifying all sources for that story. That is untrue: SI has not been notified of any lawsuit nor disclosed the identity of any of its sources.

Multiple people who have worked with Easterby also say that he has told people in both Houston and New England, including the McNairs, that the Kraft family, which owns the Patriots, is behind the negative press about him. Some of these people also say he has spread a story that the Krafts are investors in SI or had directly funded SI’s reporting. That is also untrue: SI has no financial relationship with the Krafts or any of their business ventures, including the Patriots. The Krafts declined SI’s interview requests for that story. Easterby denies telling colleagues that the Kraft family has an ownership stake in SI, and McNair says he does not believe SI is funded by the Kraft family.
Not only does Easterby lie, he turned Cal into a liar by not informing Watson of the plans to hire Caserio. A snake. Now, the snake has been given more responsibilities he's not qualified for.

Easterby will handle other football operations, including “strength and rehab, medical, nutrition...
The only qualification Snake Easterby has is as a con man who uses faux spirituality to influence the McNairs. And it's the McNair's weakness that allows this to happen. #FiretheMcNairs.

this is quite a damning article. This Easterby fella sounds like he was the kid picked last for all the pick up games and is now trying to get back at everyone. This franchise is a mess.
Another daily hate filled, rant and rage against Easterby? Surprise, surprise. SI/PFT/NBC have all gone DefCon 4 on Jack Easterby. Never has there been so much written, airtime used and media publication about a culture coach/Chaplin and a PR exec.

In other words as BIG a jerk as Jack Easterby is, SI/PFT/NBC have exceed Jack in that category.

Non stop 7 days a week an attack on little old Jack Easterby. I watched a Florio segment last night about Watson's 2 to 10 tweet. The last half was another rant, rage, mean, nasty, hateful attack on Easterby. I'm sorry that is not journalism, not even close.

"Soon after, many Texans staffers began referring to Cal by a new nickname: Tommy Boy. This was a reference to the Chris Farley comedy where his character, Thomas R. "Tommy" Callahan III, is given an executive job at the family auto plant before his father dies and Tommy generally bumbles through his attempts to keep the business running."

Right or wrong, the media is putting on a full out blitz on this Texans/Easterby/Watson debacle. No one seems to trust anything from Cal nor Easterby. Caserio is too new to the organization and the process of his hiring is or could be part of the issue. Cal and Caserio need to have unified conversations together with Deshaun on direction AND establish Caserio as the top of the pecking order for the operation of this football team. Easterby needs to be eliminated from the Texans organization. If Cal wants him to be his consultant, then move him to another one of their ventures like The McNair Foundation...but he should not be nowhere near Kirby

"Back in 2019, when Gaine’s ouster as the Texans’ GM created an opening, Easterby, according to two sources, told confidants there was something aside from roster-building experience that he liked about Caserio: He would be coming from an organization where he wasn’t in charge, so in Houston he wouldn’t expect to run everything."

Given the way Easterby has risen in the organization, this seems 100% believable.

Mort:

Oh boy, Houston, you still have a problem. We talkedabout Deshaun Watson last week and his unhappiness with Cal McNair. Friday, Cal McNair issued an apology, said he’s texted with Deshaun Watson but sources close to Watson say this is bigger than firing Jack Easterby. He says unless Cal can fire himself, Watson is not about to change his mind and wants nothing to do with the Texans going forward.

Schefter: Last Sunday, I tweeted out “If his anger level was a 2 [when they traded DeAndre Hopkins], this time it’s a 10” and sure enough, what did Watson tweet yesterday? “I was on 2 then I took it to 10.” validating what everyone thinks and knows: he is one unhappy camper and he has no plans to be with the Texans anytime soon, if ever.

The issue with Deshaun is that they went to him to ask his input to what they should do going forward. He didn’t go to them, they went to him. They asked his opinion and then they ignored his opinion. Deshaun is not very happy about it right now.

It was well sourced. Well written. And gave all of the principals in the article an opportunity to respond. Just because you don't like what it reads doesn't mean it's not journalism.
It had one or two facts and a whole lot of conjecture and innuendo thrown in along with a few notorious unnamed sources. It's a rehash of everything that has already been said a dozen times in the last week.

Has anyone heard what previous experience makes Easterby qualified to be EVP- Football Ops? It appears he has his hand in everything non-business related and although Caserio has control of personnel, Jack is always available to "serve" on personnel matters. Does that cover his job description?

It had a lot of new information, including Easterby's interactions with Texans staff and players. Including threats of outing the SI.com sources.

You know, if you don't like the articles...don't read them. Just don't mischaracterize them into something it's not. SI.com didn't create the chaos on Kirby. They're just reporting it.

You, me we are really on the same side. You think the Texans have an Easterby problem. I see it as the Texans have a bigger problem in Cal McNair. If Easterby was fired today there wouldn't be much change at all with the Texans. Cal just said that Easterby is not going anywhere, that should be an illustration to all where the real problem lies. I'm of the opinion that Caserio and Easterby are of similiar mindset and it was Cal who brought them both here. We're stuck for next 5 years.

In his original Texans bio, there was a claim that Easterby had been an "assistant to the director of football operations" with the Jacksonville Jaguars and had experience in salary cap construction. That was later edited to "helping with football operations and public relations". Now, his experience in Jacksonville has been wholly removed from his current Texans bio.

The McNairs are the ultimate problem. But, that's solvable by hiring a head of the organization that is responsible for everything. Thus, pushing the McNairs into silent ownership. Maybe Caserio can grow into that role. But as the organization is currently constructed, this franchise is doomed to continuing failure.

Speedy

Former Yeller Dweller
The issue with Deshaun is that they went to him to ask his input to what they should do going forward. He didn’t go to them, they went to him.
And that right there is what is wrong with this organization. What organization ever has gone to their players for help with hiring upper management? It's like they have no clue about structure. I get getting input from employees, like suggestion box type stuff, but including them in the hiring process? Nobody does that.

They've known for 4 months that they needed a new GM and HC. Had 4 months to put a plan together, and it appeared like they were. They went through the trouble of hiring a search firm, for what I've heard was about $600k. They also went through the trouble of putting together a committee made up of former coaches, players, and members of other sports, and still screwed this thing up six ways to Sunday.

Are the Jets, Falcons, Lions, or Jaguars having a total freaking shitshow like this? How the Texans are handling this has been beyond comprehension. Even for the Texans. Just a plethora of incompetence from one Mr. Cal McNair.

Easterby this and Easterby that, and that is it's own little shitshow, but even that is caused by Cal McNair. This whole thing has been unbelievably ridiculous, and there's been no indication of it getting better. And I'm certainly not confident it ever gets better until there are new owners down at 1 NRG Pkwy.

Bill Belichick in an effort to once again secure a "Franchise Type QB" set his eyes on sad sack Cal McNair's, Texans organization. He sent Easterby in first to initiate the chaos. Easterby must get close to Cal. Easterby and Cal agree to hire NE man, Caserio as the next GM which adds gas to an already out of control fire within the organization. Players are now tired of the organization and want out. Easterby and Caserio will convince numb-nuts Cal to strip the team of everyone disrespecting him. Easterby and Caserio come to Cal and inform him that the best offer for Watson is in fact coming from Belichick and NE. Caserio works out a deal to ship Watson, Cooks, and Watt to NE for players and a few picks. After 2021 season, both Easterby and Caserio step down from their positions, siting Cal's incompetence as the driving factor. Both immediately re-sign with NE. This is Belichick just being Belichick.

The media has known about Easterby for the longest, but didn’t want to report anything because it was the Patriots. Everyone loves the Patriots. So they sat. Waited. And found the perfect opportunity when Tommy Boy hired Easterby.

Now they are unloading. SI/PFT/NBC have to eat too.

I could see a trade with Belicheck going down. Caserio will tell Tommy Boy that Belicheck is going to do them a solid and give us two third round picks, a player on their practice squad, and get Vinateri to come out of retirement for us.

I believe you are giving our ownership far 2 much credit. We'll settle for the prize in a crackerjack box.

Easterby’s unchecked and, frankly, delusional ambitions (a league source tells PFT that he openly aspires to be the General Manager of a team) has contributed to the mess in which he now finds himself.

If Easterby wants the truth, here it is: He shouldn’t be the executive V.P. of football operations, for any NFL team. The league has many other potential candidates for that type of position with far greater credentials, qualifications, and experience than Easterby. Every day that Easterby has that job, a truly worthy candidate necessarily is denied the opportunity to grow and to flourish in a position for which he or she is far better suited than Easterby.

Easterby, in our assessment, believed he could establish a foothold in the world of football with a thin and/or embellished resume. Then, with his personality and penchant for playing the “Man of God” card, he climbed and he climbed and he climbed. And as the old saying goes, the higher someone climbs a tree, the more exposed that person’s ass becomes.

From everything I've read, there's very little from Watson himself and tons of conjecture from "journalists" who need to fuel their 7/24 new cycle, unnamed sources "reporting" what Watson has "said" and a couple of former Texans, both of whom have an axe to grind, egging Watson on. Now Watson can't back down or he will lose face. This whole issue has become a firestorm stoked by people mostly outside of the organization.

Cal said we aren't Patriots south but choosing personnel over players is exactly what New England would do. And Cal doesn't have Brady and Bellicheck to ride success off of. Instead he's letting Jack turn the franchise into Detroit south, a terrible irrelevant franchise that will never win anything

That is on Watson for his cryptic tweets. He can instantly silence the media with a simple tweet and he hasn't done so. He could just as easily pick up a phone and hash this out with Caserio and McNair, but instead after media reports that they are texting, he tweets another cryptic tweet about being and 2 and going to 10. Watson, right or wrong, is causing the media frenzy.
