Head Coach Candidates

Jets played hard for Bowles

I agree........defensively they did. The main thing with him is i just wonder about his chops in putting together a good offensive staff as the Jets were awful offensively with him as the HC. Some of that can be attributed to him not having a qb but some of it was just them being terrible.

My guess....Caserio will interview Brady again then Daboll will be the next. Daboll's more indepth interview will happen once the Bills are done playing. I'm still hoping for Brady since his offensive approach could be most appealing to Watson.
smh...

will we ever learn?

If/when the Bills lose, Caserio, Easterby, & Cal will board a private jet to Buffalo & bring Daboll back... won't be no "interview"

I am getting a feeling it is going to be Brady. These guys want to prove they are their own men. Then get a retread defensive coordinator like Marvin Lewis or so to help him out. NC can help with his NFL connections Brady may lack in building a staff. Brady would have to wait another year if not us I think

I think it’s Daboll for HC, Jerod Mayo as DC and perhaps Kelly for OC with a ton of input from Daboll. If Kelly isn’t OC I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on the staff in some capacity.
I’m not saying this is what I want, but the above scenario wouldn’t surprise me

I agree.
Brady is talented enough to bring Watson and the Texans offense to a whole new level. Keeping Kelly as OC would act as a bridge between what Kelly/Watson have built, with what Brady would like to do. Brady is also young and "unconnected" enough, to be easily controlled and directed by NC, Easterby and McNair. And bringing in someone like Marvin Lewis gives us a strong DC with HC experience for Brady to lean on. NC is well liked and connected well enough to make up for Brady's shortcomings when it comes to building staff.

Oh...and lets not forget....if we are building "New England South", then we are going to need our very own Tom Joe Brady!!

Same here. I'm not saying this is what I want., but I think this is how this will play out and keeping Kelly as OC to placate Watson.

Hiring Brady would be scenario #2. It appears that during games, Caserio wears a headset and communicates to the OC. I can see him doing the same with an inexperienced, first time HC. I don't know how many veteran NFL coaches would take kindly to the GM having a headset and suggesting plays.

Thats always the rub with defensive oriented coaches. Most are conservative by nature. Run the ball, play defense. Hopefully as his 2nd gig he can see how in today's nfl, you have to score points and put pressure on other teams defensive.

This doesn't sound as terrible as it looks on the surface.

Kelly can stay and still keep around a lot of the concepts and plays that Deshaun likes and is familiar with, much of the terminology as well. Meanwhile Daboll can implement a better playcalling philosophy, the 'whys and whens' of the playcalling. A better opening script perhaps too. This would also free up Daboll to be a full on HC monitoring all phases and keyed in on time management, situations, etc.

And though I'm not particularly thrilled with another rookie DC, if Mayo is the guy to light a fire under some asses then by all means. And as long as I'm staying on the bright side I know he had a reputation as a tireless student of the game type with a mean work ethic.

don’t want Daboll, but it would be intriguing if Kelly stays. It would be a nice display of Caserio’s skills at managing personalities and problem solving right off the bat. He’d get his guy while brokering a compromise with a staff holdover that DW4 has openly campaigned that he wants to keep around.

the only thing I wouldn’t want in your proposal is Mayo as DC. If Lewis is willing I’d prefer him to come and be the DC.

This is what I’d be most happy with if Daboll is brought in.

Do you guys prefer McDaniels or Patricia?

Neither.

I'm beginning to think Brady is a likely outcome ....Love the offensive design but man that's a short resume.

Just ftr, wasn't my proposal. And like I said I kinda liked the Daboll/Kelly part while I was brightsiding the Mayo part.

I will go on record as saying " I do not want Bieniemy in Houston".

Is it possible Mahomes is trying to help out Bieniemy more than Watson? Now Watson has himself believing he needs Bieniemy?

Similar to a friend setting up another friend with a blind date. Talking that blind date up just to find out when you go on that date, that beauty that was described to you by your friend was “a beautiful person on the inside” type of beauty?

How much has Mahomes talked up Bieniemy that may not be true?

so-- no one else wants Brady and we do?

Bienemy’s is just as short...he’s really only got 1 more year as a coordinator on the NFL level than Brady does...yet everyone is convinced Bienemy is the best candidate.
Bieniemy has 3 years as an NFL OC, 13 years coaching in the NFL.
Brady has one year as an NFL OC, 3 years coaching in the NFL.

Yep, that's exactly the same. Right.

Was checking out some guy breaking down his offense on YouTube, I left quite impressed with Brady scheme.

I was looking at some LSU stuff from an article , don't ask me to find it again .... but the route combinations were interesting in how they attacked defenders .... they were also long developing.
You can do that at LSU where more often than not you have the best athletes on the field ....

so-- no one else wants Brady and we do?

I think its more that the other top guys have declined or have better opportunities elsewhere ....

If you are Saleh or Bieniemy do you come to Houston where they have no draft picks and are in cap hell or do you go to NYJ / Jax where they have the #1-2 draft pick and 70m-80m in cap space ?

Now that Caserio is doing the HC interviewing, no where better to start than in house. This way he see's up close and personal how things are/have been operating. Also...if Kelley is retained as OC, interviewing him as a HC candidate acts as a sign of goodwill.

& I'm sure he's never conducted an interview for a HC before.

to be fair everyone has to start somewhere
Has there ever been a NFL HC coming into a job with as little experience as Joe Brady? 8 years coaching experience, total. 5 years ago, Brady was a grad assistant at Penn State. 7 years ago, a LB coach at his alma mater, a FCS school.

I get it, Brady looks like a wunderkind. I would talk to the guy, for sure. But in Brady's 1st year as an NFL OC, his offense was 21st in yards, 24th in points. Brady's record is likely to improve. He will be an NFL HC, one day, if it does. But here? Now? I don't think so.
