Joe Brady.
We need a young mind that is willing to adapt to a new NFL.
Was Joe Brady the reason for LSU on offense being amazing? Or was it the 1st pick last year and many talented WRs making it look like a video game?

I'm not sold on him as a true HC.

There’s reason to believe that Brady is a young offensive genius. His track record is pretty solid in coaching good offensive teams. But as I’ve said in many a thread, the job of HC isn’t so much about his ability to call plays, it’s about his ability to hire good staff. staff he can trust to coach up and develop the talent and execute his vision. You need Connect’s and lengthy experience in the NFL to do that effectively imo. Dude has a grand total of 3 years in the NFL as a coach. And he’s SUPER young too at 31.

He's not a Patriots castoff. He's not a KC castoff. He's not a Bronco castoff. He's not even a Panthers castoff. He's the kind of guy that could come in here and create an identity unique to Houston. He's not stuck in the "the NFL way is the only way" line of thinking. I don't think he'd be afraid of creating something new, something uniquely tailored to Watson's very unique skill set. EB, McDaniel's, Lewis...those guys attach the risk of coming in here and trying to do what O'Brien tried to do. Mold and pound Watson and the offense into a shape they can identify with and be comfortably with but fail to produce results just like O'Brien did.

I feel like Brady is a swing for the fences kind of hire that could really energize this franchise. That's why I know he won't be the Texans next HC. The McNair's aren't going to come out of their comfort zone. They'll play it safe, pick the popular name so if it backfires they can say, "at least we tried". And fans will nod their heads and say, "yep, you sure did. Here's more of my money. Now go hire the OC of the last SB winner and make HIM our savior!"
Atleast McDaniels has won in the playoffs with Tebow who's a polar opposite of Brady.

Whomever they hire, they need to verify the coaches they plan to hire. Who they bring in as oline and dline coaches is of the utmost importance. Stepanski brought in Bill Callahan. They ran the blood out of the ball. Olivier Vernon had 9 sacks this year along with Garrett having a great year. If they fix the oline and dline via coaching, everything else gets easier.

They need to add 1 possibly 2 DL this offseason. A fatty in the middle and a pass rusher.

I dont know who the DC is going to be. Did say Patricia run a 4-3 or a 3-4?

Regardless they need a guy that can help stop the run in the middle. They also need to add a pass rusher. I think they can find a fatty at the top of the 4th in this draft.
Do you think some of the run issues where lb related and gap control by the dline. I mean, how do you classify Watkins?

That's alot of abuse inside for Watt, but I can see it. Cunningham at Will makes sense too. So Blaclock and Watt inside?
My new DL would look something like this,

4-3

Watt/Hall/Fatty/Omenihu with Blacklock and a drafted pass rusher (I like Jordan Smith from UAB) on pass rushing downs.

Yes the LB stunk and this is where I would try to add a cheap serviceable vet in FA.

My draft would look something like this. Rds 3-4 Pass rusher/Fatty/Cover LB. Then trade back into the 4th and pick a RB.

I find it odd that Greg Roman didn't get a single vote in this poll. What he's done with Lamar Jackson is nothing short of remarkable , even if this seasons results aren't as good as last years.

I'd wager had the job come open last year instead , he'd have been the top name being floated around by both fans and media.

That's not to say he's my choice , I just found it odd that he's not mentioned more often.

4-3 or 3-4?
I think they're set up more for a 4-3 than a 3-4. The personel that is currently there, and if they do the smart thing and either trade/cut JJ, would benefit from the switch to a new scheme. We don't have a Reader in the middle any more. Omenihu is better suited for a 4-3. You have Hall and Blacklock in the middle.
Cut McKinney. Cunningham and Adams are set at 1 OLB spot and MLB. Just my 2 cents.

But he is not going anywhere. He got a fat contract after meeting with Kraft and Hoodie before he walked out on Miami. And many NE forums say that he is promised to be HC in NE by 2023. He is probably also making HC money as the OC in NE. I think Kraft locked him up figuring that he learned from Hoodie and that should make a smooth transition after Hoodie leaves. Smart really, but is he set to be a HC or just an OC.

I'm not sold on Brady. Sure, his offense was like a video game at LSU. However, was it his ability or was it a bit of his and a ton of a QB and offensive players that could make anyone look good to HOF worthy? I honestly don't know seeing with covid and everything I have not seen the same thing this year at LSU.

Here is my issue with Brady. I am posting 2 links to the same site. 2019 stats with the top draft pick of last year at QB. Then of this season 2020. Take covid into account to a degree.

So, what is the real Brady and what was a stud QB and skill players.

Maybe, maybe not, Caserio/McDaniels are BFF's.

I like Brady alot and he's going to be a great HC if he gets in the right org. IMHO

However I want a guy who's been put through the playoff ringer and that isn't Brady.

I'd be most happy with:
Joe Brady
Robert Saleh

I'd be most unhappy with:
Josh McDaniels
Any HC/OC from the college ranks

On the fence:
Eric Bienemy
Brian Daboll
Eberfuls

The one that makes the most sense, to me anyway, is Saleh.
Similar to how I feel.....but then again I change my mind like I do my underpants (every day) :smiliedance:

I believe Caserio could help any young HC build a staff through his NFL connections. I do like the idea of getting a fresh mind in the drivers seat. Yes, to whoever wondered what Brady's impact was on Burrow. Brady's offense was new and Burrow was in his second season. Brady's first season was so average....absolutely no one had him pegged to do what he did in 2019. Why, b/c was no one was prepared to for what Brady's passing game would do to CFB defenses. The B&B union in 2019 made both of them valuable commodities going forward.

I think Saleh will probably go to Detroit. I don't think Bienemy will want to deal with this organization. Just to get the defense to play at an average level, I'm leaning Eberflus:

I have a feeling that our new GM has someone in mind. The question is are they in the NFL or college ranks? Seeing he has an eye for talent. I think it very well might be Brady. With Romeo asked to stay and advise on things for a year. Nobody is going to question an assistant HC post for him.

EB is OUT as a HC option

More of Florio's click bait. EB can't be hired for now and they didn't interview any with a team currently in the playoffs, more than one we considered as a possible HC

New rule states that you can have a video interview. The playoffs don't matter. Not sure if it is Covid or what but it's the new rule. Just like our new GM is from the NE front office. Yet took our deal even though NE is still playing

Virtual interviews of head coaching candidates can begin of coaches who have a bye in the postseason. These requests cannot be denied. Virtual interviews for high-level jobs (like GM) can begin of any candidate. Those requests cannot be denied.

Can doesn't mean they must, nor did I ever say the couldn't. I said they haven't interviewed anyone on a team in the playoffs, or can you not read?

There is a chance the Texans never get the chance to interview EB. He interviewed for the Jets job today.

This is what the Texans should be doing. (Like the Jets did today.) But they aren't doing this, only god knows why.

It sounds like Caserio at GM, which means Easterby is pulling more strings than Cal wants people.to really know. I wouldn't be surprised if Josh McDaniels is the next HC. McNair can't get off of this "Patriots" South BS.
Why? Caserio was choice BEFORE E was hired.

And it's reported that despite the new rule the team will stick to it's policy of waiting to interview candidates until their season is done..

Not sure about the 'NE is still playing' part.. cause of course they're not.

If you going to have running game need to find a runner some how.
