What is your plan to win a SB in 5 years? There's picking a HC, of course, but that's only the beginning. How will you utilize the few draft resources you have left? Whom will you trade, cut, and let walk? Whom will you go after? How to manage the cap, etc.? Over to you...

In the grand scheme of things do we really have that few draft resources? I mean yes we're a first round pick short this year but you're talking about 1 pick there.

I start by trimming zombie salary as much as possible in 2021.Not necessarily tanking but im getting all unfriendly contracts off of the books that I can. I keep Watson/Tunsil and try to leverage the fuller situation to resign him at a reasonable rate.

I'm rolling with basically the offense this year minus Cobb, dav Anderson and a couple of ol. I want the incoming coach feedback but my initial instinct is that I will be putting money saved on offense into ol and try to find a diamond in the undrafted rb pool.

On defense I'm building the front 7 first unlesd I feel there is a true lock down corner available. I'll keep the Mckinney/Roby/LJohnsons for a couple if seasons but will not consider them part of my core.

Overall I want to spend 2021 with our offense as it is while adding cheap you talent where possible. I'm fine I'd it turns into 2010, I just want to rebase our defense. We have a couple of nice players on D but we really don't have any premier talent left outside of Watt but he isn't premier on a routine basis.

No second round pick either, we won't select until round 3.

I forgot we gave up the 2nd we got back.

In the grand scheme of things I don't think it changes my position. It isn't as if we have 70% of the picks... yes it hurts bad this year... but its no different than if we missed on the first two picks. It's a disadvantage but it isn't insurmountable.

Only 3rd through 7th rounders, plus little cap space this offseason (due to many terrible contracts) doesn't give much hope for 2021, but a get well plan that's longer term is certainly achievable under the right leadership.

I’m cutting/trading every one not named Watson or Tunsil that isn’t on a vet minimum or rookie contract. I’m trading all my draft picks for future picks.

I’ll fill holes on my squad from udfas & 2nd/3rd tier FAs.

My OL would look like

LTunsil-THoward-GMancz-CHeck-Scharping

2022 draft I’m drafting value, looking to trade down often for more picks with an eye on Future picks.

Still looking at 2nd & 3rd tier FAs, trying to roll money & picks into 2023, where I start drafting special pieces & actively pursuing 1st tier FAs.

& the coach I hire in 2021 is most likely a placeholder if I don’t get “my guy”

I think most of us feel somewhat similarly .... This really isn't far off of what my plan for the year would be.

The first thing we have to realize is how bad our cap situation really is & clear the decks of all these bad & mediocre contracts so they have the ability to add talent in the future.

Something I'd like to see them avoid in the future is paying mid tier players mid tier money , there's no upside to doing so when you know the best return on the investment is that mid tier play. (Mercilus , McKinney & Cunningham I'm looking at you).
I'm beginning to believe that those are the type of players you pay while on their first contract and then walk away from , paying them after that , there's little chance they play up to their contracts much less outperform it. Just no value there.

At this point , I think you pay stars and pay for potential .... everyone else can kick rocks.

Sure there are a few exceptions .... I guess that has to be said or someone will blow it up.

The thing that concerns me is the franchise thinking they are close .... they aren't. Getting the band back together isn't an option. A band aide isn't the right course of action.

It'll probably be a tough sell for a potential GM to say this franchise is a train wreck & we need a hard reset that involves cutting or trading several players that equate to a large sum of dead money. That's not what ownership wants to hear .... but it is the truth.

Looks like a solid long-term plan to me.

Will the McNairs do it? Not a chance in haedes.

You want to play Fify at RT ? Why do you want to get DW killed ?

1. Say goodbye to Preacher Jack.
2. Hire Eric Bieniemy as HC
3. Make sure he can bring in any assistant he wants, regardless of cost
4. Overhaul the scouting department. If Dorsey doesn’t get a GM gig and bring him in to run personnel.
5. Let JJ find a trade he’s happy with. Need that cap space.
6. Say bye to the RBs Johnson.
7. Roby, Fulton, McKinney, Kelemete, Murray...happy trails.
8. Nick Martin, it’s been real. Just not real good.
9. Get on the phone and find deals in FA. Will have to backend some deals.
10. No vets on the backend of the roster. I need as many rookie contracts as I can get. Hit UDFA with a vengeance.
11. Get ready for mini camp and watch the waiver wire. With the # 3 priority on waivers, I should pick up a few guys that can play.

So FIFY means Fixed it For You. In that post @JB quoted & responded FIFY, he corrected my post. I had Scharping's number as 72 & not 74. I went back & edited my post, per JB's correction. Scharping is not FIFY.

To me, Scharping should be playing Tackle. He's not a guard. He's not built like a guard. He's played tackle his whole college career & was pretty good at it.

Howard, imo is built more like a Guard & I'm not seeing the lateral movement of a tackle.

Well good to know what at least one of your little acronym codes is because in the context I took Fifty to be an effeminate label and therefor a derisive swipe at Scharping.
And I appreciate the analysis and your suggestion to transpose Scharpings & Howards positions because who knows it might be the kind of
change we need to this OLine to improve its performance.

Find a way to hire Art Smith.
And honestly demand a 4 year guarantee because we're last place for 2-3 more years while we rebuild from the O'Brien sabotage. Then I'd do what no staff has done for the Texans, I'd draft protection for Watson and let the magic happen. Then I'd painfully do the right thing by JJ and let him go and thank him for all he's done, nobody deserves to work that hard, that long and scrape the bottom until they retire. Then I'd dump off broken David Johnson for some receiver stock. Julio Jones might be up, Falcons need cap. Plus ya know, we'd get another JJ. Jones isn't gonna get us to the postseason this year but he's good enough for Watson to build us up. And over the next couple years we're going to wish for little victories to keep the fan base from quitting.
After 2 4-5 win years we'd be in a pretty good personnel and salary position to make a run. Draft OL and secondary heavy.
And I think 5 years is a reasonable mark. 3 years to make even a wild card spot is a stretch in the wake of BO.

And lastly, if any of the 53 roster players are the undisputed best in position in the NFL, I wouldn't cut them loose.

I'd be aok if McDaniels never asked it to Houston. I'm more intrigued by Dabol (OC- Bills) and Brady (OC- Panthers) as the finalist for the Texans HC'ing job. Dabol has ties to Caserio, which may give him the advantage.....not to mention his success with the Bills. Brady evidently interviewed very well. We already know his success at LSU but I didn't know he was the first OC who had 4 1K producers in the same season. Was this success with LSU or the Panthers? I might've read over story to quick.

I really want the new GM and HC on the same page more than anything. The Texans seem to have a history of a toxic relationship between the 2 positions. No doubt that has played out in every facet of the team. On a side note, I wouldn't mind if Caserio was able to convince Eliot Wolf to join him in Houston as Asst GM.

Trade fuller. He’s bound to miss significant time with injury or get suspended again for PEDs because that’s probably the secret sure that kept him healthy this past season.

Cut David Johnson and Merciless.

FIRE DEVLIN.

Fire Osteensterby.

1. Trade JJ- I’d love him to be in Houston for his whole career, but we need draft capital and cap space (saves 17.5k, get ‘21 3rd + ‘22 5th)
2. Trade or cut both RBs Johnson- I don’t know if we would have any trade partners, but for them on the market. If no takers cut them. (saves 11.7k)
3. Trade McKinney- he’s a valuable LB and we should have some takers for a trade. (saves 6.4k, receive late ‘21 3rd or 4th)
4. Cut Cooks- he’s just not worth the $, and we wouldn’t be able to find a trade partner. (saves 12k)
5. Cut Murray post June 1st- horrible contract signing. (saves 2.4k)

We’re almost 18.3k under the cap. These moves would bring the total savings to 31.7k.

Draft:
3rd-
3rd (JJ trade)-
4th-
4th-
4th (McKinney trade)-
5th-
6th-
6th-
6th-
7th-

For defense I’d target CBs, DL, LB, and potentially a S since this draft seems deep in that position. Offense I’d draft a C to compete with Martin (I’m eyeing Josh Myers out of Ohio St). If the guy does well I’d shop Martin to other teams or I’d cut him. It looks to be another deep WR class, so I’d draft 2. I’ll also look to be adding an RB.

With our cap space I only expect we bring in 1-2 FAs, so I hope we make them count.

JOB ONE IS TRADE FULLER. If you trade him then do not resign him.

same goes for JJ.

cut David Johnson.

Fire the oline coach.

reassign Osteensterby to executive director face painting operations.

This is what I would do except I would add Martin to the cut parade and save around 6 mil on the cap. Also would offer Cooks 2 yrs 16 mil with 8 guaranteed. Saving about another 4 mil on the cap.

That would save you another 10 mil on the cap, giving you 28 mil under the cap and you could add 2 or 3 real difference makers like Wiliam Jackson/Williamson/Anzalone. That's if they wanted to come here in FA.
