Texans Search Committee

Did I miss something?

I thought he was asked a question and he offered an opinion on hiring/working with a particular coach who happens to be a minority? Or did he come right out and say "I want a minority coach"?

I don't recall seeing that, is this more of your 'reasoning' e.g. 1+1=controversial statement presented as fact?

I read somewhere DW4 wanted Bienemy as his HC.

I cant remember where.

lol I had to look up "gruntled" to see if it was a real word. ;)

Turns out, the gruntled fans must be the ones paying out exorbitant sums for season tickets every year, as well as the 30,000+ on the reported waiting list.

They must be the happy, shiny fans that I keep hearing about. :mail:

Well, speaking from the jaded perspective, I'm sure they are working overtime on Kirby to spin it positively to get folks to renew those season tickets. Revenues are down across the league, so it's understandable. It's what I would do if I ran a multi-billion dollar entertainment company.

I'm not one of those season ticket fans, though. I have no financial dog in this fight. I'm purely looking to be entertained here.

That said, I'm not jaded enough to automatically assume Cal & Co. will fail before we even know who he picks. I'm hopeful for the good luck, even though I know hope is a suckers game sometimes. Ooops, too jaded. I mean, hope springs eternal and all that jazz. I'm not sure what that means, but it sounded good on a motivational poster I saw years ago.

:goodluck:

Luck is a suckers game when it comes to the Texans.

Luck also isn't a suckers game when it comes to the Texans marketing division.

Yep, I'm jaded when it comes to the Texans.

Hey Cal, dont tell me what you're going to do, show me what you're going to do by your actions. Sign a couple of top tier FA's and I will begin to listen to you. Otherwise shut the hell up and continue on with your personal dog and pony show.

I heard the Bienemy thing, but it's a pretty far leap to go from I want X coach (who happens to be a minority) to saying DW wants a minority coach. You know any minority coach will do regardless of qualifications.

Just wait and see what happens.

Not Texans Worthy.

Oh, I'm not done. I'd also sign WR- Josh Gordon. Gordon and Brown would definitely be some nice candy to go along with Coutee, Coulter, and Hansen.

While I'm taking a big crap on the McNair's boardroom table.....I'd also be signing RB- Le'Veon Bell and RB- Leonard Fournette to pair with Duke Johnson (3rd Down Back) and a rookie RB.

These 4 players come cheap and if the right HC is hired....I could see all 4 wanting to come to the Texans b/c of Watson, coaching staff, and the opportunity to be starters. If any of them are exceeding expectations and the Texans do not have a solid deep playoff run in them then these guys could become great trade assets at the deadline. Sign cheap and possibly get a lot of upside in either production or draft picks.

2021 is going to be tough so the team would need to be financially savvy if the cap is adjusted.

This is the Patriot way.

Hopefully this committee will bring some much needed order to this dysfunctional organization.

I remember a time on this MB according to some posters when the Texans.

1. Weren't in it for the $$$$, all they wanted to do was bring a championship trophy to Kirby
2. The McNair's weren't meddlesome owners
3. The Texans org wasn't dysfunctional.

Is fuddled a word? Because the Texans continue to either keep me fuddled or befuddled and I want to know how I should feel about the newly formed Korn Ferry Johnson & Johnson Dungy committee. And does this mean John McClain :mcclain: is out? He’s probably really fuddled!

I may take some heat here, but so far I am impressed with Cal.

He boldly fired OB after realizing it was a mistake.
He has publically said Easterby will not be the GM and that RAC will not be HC.
He has put together an ELITE search committee.

I know we talk ****, but so far he is doing what needs to be done.

Are we forgetting that he created a lot of the mess he’s “cleaning up” now? The promotion of OB to GM after 51-7, which led to Hopkins being dealt for a sack of mud and all stupid money given out that he signed off on?

I mean, props, I guess, for admitting he phucked up and is now trying to do something about it, but man, did he have to let the burning Hindenburg crash into the sinking Titanic first?

Agree. It's a leap and a plunge into crazy talk. Reid also spoke favorably about Bienemy too. Many objective observers say Bienemy is due for a HC job. So, even if the majority of people say the Texans should hire him and the Texans hire him, does that mean Watson hired the minority he wanted?

It doesn't matter who they pick, half the people who are following all this aren't going to like it anyway. Honestly, I don't know enough or care enough to follow all the candidates so whoever the hell they hire I'll just wait on them for next season. Which is all we can do anyway, to see what sort of team the new administration can scrape together with free agents and low draft picks. Hopefully it's enough to help our franchise QB do his job.

They offered me the job, but I turned it down on account of it sounded like it was going to be actual real work. And I don't want anything to do with that kind of sh!t.

It will be spun like that for sure by one member.

No IMO it means they got the best man for the job. And hopefully it pans out.

I do have a strong feeling one member will treat him like they treated Smith and now Watson.

Eh, how are you getting these guys together, anyway. I would bet that AJ and Jimmy would confer on their own. It's good that Cal is at least attempting to expand his network. Clearly, the group think coming out of Kirby isn't working.

When a committee is not a committee

After reading the article, there's something about this whole thing that just doesn't smell right. What I do think I smell is misinformation. A sort of smell we all seem to have been getting used to lately.

Yes Cal fell thru the outhouse one holer, climbed out and washed himself in the river. As Brooke Fraser formerly of Hillsong worship sang "must be something in the water."

I am slightly optimistic.

Free space rented in your head

Awesomeness

BTW, before you imply I'm a racist, just know Saleh is my 1st choice. LaFluer is my 1st choice if they go offense for a HC.

Committee this, committee that...this is why all the fake outrage around here about the 1st search committee announced was unwarranted and knee jerk.

aside from that, the guys on this new search committee can screw the pooch just as easy too. The NFL is a fraternity And the retread factor is high with them. IOW’s, they have agendas too. Wont be surprised if you start hearing rumors about guys like Raheem Morris, Dave Wannstedt Herm Edwards and Mike Smith.
Perhaps the first committee listened to fans on this MB?

Yup. This is all a smoke show. How much say do these consultants have as individuals or as a majority? Will their opinions and rankings of prospective candidates ever be released? Do they collaborate together?

Nope.

I'll tell you what this is (imo,) Cal's dishing out some k's for feedback - sure. If there are red flags presented im sure he'll read through those reports. Otherwise, he's buying credibility with nfl names we as nfl fans know and trust. Telling us who's on the committee is a deliberate ploy to buy our faith.

And at the end of the day, Cal is gonna pick who Cal wants. We'll give it time and buy tickets because the committee Cal bought presumably picked the right coach.

More bs. Rinse and repeat.

A man who understands how the McNair's operate.

Just got an email from Cal to season ticket members, the search committee is R.C. Buford, CEO of the San Antonio Spurs; Tony Dungy, Pro Football Hall of Fame member; Jimmy Johnson, Pro Football Hall of Fame member; Rod Graves, Executive Director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance and long-time NFL executive, and Andre Johnson

Glad to see some accomplished execs

Johnson and Dungy...
Mr Blunt and Mr Nice (and blunt) IF, a BIG IF Cal listens to them...we should have a good HC and GM. What are the odds of that? Cal has made fair enough moves and a good share of stupid ones. Guess we will have to see what he picks this time: Good or Stupid

Most of the league is now a strong believer of Eric Bieniemy. Doesn’t mean Watson or any other QB, for that matter, is pounding the table for him. Watson has never demanded that his next HC must be, and only be a minority, as some here have baselessly claimed. There sure are some goofy MFrs up in here, lol.

I really liked Bienemy for a bit and i still don't hate him just...

I don't want a coach who was carried by a mega superstar qb. Look how many ne coaches fizzled without Brady. I want coaches who can directly point to their system for success even if it means they had average qbs. I want gms who can find that superstar qb and actually land talent .500 in the 2nd and 3rd round.

Here's a novel concept, mix the 2.

It's not a smoke show, but at the end of the day, it's Cal's decision. I'm glad he's going to hear input from all of these people, but it's still his final decision, as it should be.

If I owned a football team, I'm not going to pay others to make this decision for me. I will pay others to provide info, so I can make an informed decision.

He has a history of great choices or no?

You're saying he has this eye for talent.. so what is the evidence of it?

Read it....it's all there for you to walk away with whatever impression you want. I'm a 3rd party source and my view of the information may not be the same as another reader. when you've looked into it and formed your own opinion then a discussion s fair.

I’m really pleased this new committee has been announced, gives me confidence that they are going about this in the right way.

I love the thought of Harbaugh, if he got Kaepernick to the Super Bowl, I’d love to see what he can get out of Deshaun Watson.

He has a history of great choices or no?

In reality Cal has only made one choice that would really be considered bad and that was making OB the GM and to be fair that was mainly a bad choice only after this last off season. In the half off season that OB was first GM, right after Gaine was removed, OB didn't actually do to bad a job. I know some don't like the Tunsil trade but for all its expense it was right on price point and he has fixed our LT issue, and the Clowney trade was never going to end well for the Texans because Clowney had all the power at that point. The Hopkins trade, the big contracts, getting vets who's best days are behind them, these things came after this off season and OB was fired very soon after that. Cal can't win, we say we don't want an owner that meddles and then turn around and say he should have stepped in and stopped OB, well you can't have it both ways either he lets people do their jobs, even when they do it badly, or he goes the Jerry Jones route and just makes himself GM. On top of all that, as I've mentioned before, these things all happened right after his father died and Houston football was his dream so you know Cal wasn't yet firing on all cylinders. For me this next hire at GM and HC will decide lot of things, he has all the time in the world and plenty of resources to drawn on, if he stills screws the pooch then yeah I'm right there with you.

He fired Bill O'Brien, so that's a great choice in my book!!
But, he was part of the very small group of two, he and his mommy, that gave O’Brien the GM title one year after OB’s internship that started this mess.

The McNair’s have my sincere gratitude for bringing football back to Houston. They would own my ultimate gratitude if they sold the team to someone that, a) will keep it here, and b) someone that shares the same goals for the team that the fans do. Until that time, I take everything they say with a grain of salt and remain skeptical of their decisions. Including this new committee.
