Even though I’m stoked, he completely ruined this team, I think it will be hard to find a good GM and HC. I feel like it will take YEARS to get this team back to form.

I don’t think getting a good GM and HC will be difficult. Not sure I trust who’s doing the choosing though.

If this turns into another Patriots reunion because of Easterby’s influence, I’m not sure we’d be any better off. Well, GM maybe because it’s gonna be really hard to be as bad as OB.

I really hope they do their due diligence and look at some of the guys that have been mentioned, Bienemy, Roman, Daboll etc. and not just default to the Patriots because of Easterby’s connections. Somebody with some innovation who knows how to take advantage and build around the talent of a Deshaun Watson.

Mediocre talent.

I have heard from high up source that Watson going forward, with whoever is the next coach, wants to call his own plays. If that is so, don't expect anyone from the Shanahan tree.
Do you think Watson would be okay if Bieniemy was calling plays? Dashaun would have to be excited with how he worked with Mahomes. Now if #4 can get a State Farm commercial..

Signed Jake.

When I was going over Hopkins new contract, I remember reading an O’Brien being fired clause that would nullify the trade if OB was fired before the season ended. Didn’t think much of it then because I never thought it would happen, but yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s in there.

Bieniemy has never called any plays in KC, Reid has always been the sole play caller.
My point was Bieniemy has worked with Mahomes as OC and Dashaun should be willing to let Bieniemy call plays as HC unless you think B will let Kelly if still here or another OC call plays?

Then Miami pass on Trevor Lawrence & the Jags still get him.

I wouldn't be that surprised to see Miami, if in the 1 spot, draft Trevor Lawrence. Arizona did the same thing to Josh Rosen. Miami could always rape the Jags in the process of trading Tua to them.

This is why Sherman Lewis gets passed up , yet John Gruden gets a job. When Mike Holmgren was in GB, that was the same narrative despite a ton of guys under Sherman Lewis getting jobs. Now, the same is starting to happen with this narrative again. It seems to only be an issue when a person of color is involved. When Peterson and Nagy were under Reid, who called the plays? When all those offensive coaches who got head coaching jobs were under Holmgren, did the call plays including Andy Reid? It's about the concepts, game plans, and structure.

In the interim and if Kelly fails to get creative now that he's out of OB's shadow....I wouldn't mind turning the OC reins over to Carl Smith and let him modify the offense as much as he wants. At least he isn't a NE retread.

I wouldn't have hired Pederson or Nagy either. My Bears friends are really complaining about Nagy's playcalling. I'm sure he fully understands concepts, gameplans and structure. But the Bears offense is bad and is getting worse. This week was especially bad. Nagy's no offensive genius . Look at Philly's offense, ranked near the bottom of the league. It's obvious Reid is the guy who makes the calls.

I would've hired Lewis back in the day, but rumor has it that he had a drinking problem. Is he still alive?

I don't like to celebrate someone losing his job - but this was overdue. I wasnt as down on him as most of you guys. I am still fine with the Tunsil trade and to a lesser extend with the D. Brown trade. I was never ok with the Hopkins trade (because of what he got in return) or the Clowney trade and I believe he overpayed on several players like Martin, Mercilus and probably Cunningham while letting guys like Reader and Matthieu leave.

As a coach he was boring, predictable but not as bad as people here make him out to be. He was a middle of the pack coach that failed to improve his players but did put his team in position to win (in the regular season) more often that not.

Now I would like a young, creative coach. I can live with someone trying new stuff that fails and learn from that. I don't want someone whose playcalling I can predict about 60% of the time. It is no coincidence that our offense looks best, when Watson is in a hurry up offense...

Easterby needs to be next when he arrived all this dysfunction started in the organization.
It worries me that the organisation seems to have taken on a ‘top dog’ kind of structure beneath the McNair’s.

You look at Rick Smith taking control above Kubiak, O’Brien wrestles it away from Smith, Easterby brought in to ‘oversee’ and O’Brien now gone.

Is Easterby now in a position to bring a host of his pals across from New England? You could make a case for Caserio and McDaniels, of course, which may appeal to Cal. There’s a reason former NE personnel don’t work out elsewhere though. They don’t truly understand Belichicks system, only the part they need to know.

Eagles have been decimated by injuries at ol and wr. I like Nagy play calling, mitch is and has been a bum

DW4's in yr 4, That's enough time to start passing judgement.
Watson had a moron at HC who was hell bent on turning every QB the team signed into Tom Brady. It’s obvious the man didn’t know how to use DW4. Hopefully Cal watches the big boys this season and hires a guy who knows how to use a mobile QB, and can install a system that fits him.
But, let me tell you something...if a new HC/OC can’t get Watson to develop and he still makes the same mistakes, I’m all for moving on.

With that said, the REAL rebuild starts this offseason...

but if not for the hero ball, we haven't been playing winning football for a long time.

Serious question for you and anyone else who wants to answer -

Hero ball - Is it sustainable ? (Obvious answer is no).

What makes Watson special ? His ability to make something out of those broken plays.

If he's going to refuse to take the easy yards when they are there .... and opt for hero ball how the hell do you solve the offensive problems ?

The scheme really doesn't matter if this is what he's going to do.

I don't have much hope for a new coach turning this ship around unless he gets Watson to buy into taking those shorter throws and grinding out drives.

I want to see a lot of 2TE sets , under center pounding the ball at the opposition on the ground with a generous dose of quick passes , play action over the top and traditional RB screens mixed in when the pressure is on.

It was O’Brien’s thirst for power that did him in. Not the 0-4 start. Hopkins balling out. Cooks and David Johnson coming out like a lead balloon. Had a GM made these deals, the pressure would have been on him rather than Billy Oh. O’Brien would still have a job.

The right guy can turn this organization around. We’ve seen it done many times. Time for the Texans to finally luck into the right guy.

Alright, alright... I'll do it.

This is a radio segment by an extremely respected Fox nationally syndicated Sports analyst/broadcaster, Doug Gottlieb. It covers several interesting Texans-related subjects following the firing of O'Brien. It walks you through the whole Bieniemy fallacy. Then it turns attention to the Tunsil and Hopkins trades. Then later on drops that he just talked with an NFL Director of Player Personnel asking, 'It is possible that Deshaun Watson isn't as good as we think?' The reply from the DPP. 'It's very possible, check the tape.'

Start at 0:00-4:10.......... then at 17:00 to the end of the broadcast............ here: https://podbay.fm/p/the-doug-gottlieb-show/e/1601937346 [the rest of the segments unrelated to the Texans are also interesting]

This time Caserio is under formal contract. McDaniels is going nowhere anytime soon.

Just because he relays the call to the QB does not mean he's calling the plays
He was calling the play (meaning, he make the decision on which play to be called).
On that third and 15 during the SB, Mahomes came up to him and asked for the WASP play.
Bieniemy gave it the OK.

I mean, the coaching staff had put together a game plan during the week and decided on a number of plays to be put on that menu; it was just a matter to select which play to call at which instance.

if your talking about the play at the end of the Vikings game, that is so much hyperbole bs I don't think you even watched the game

I don't think people realize that the Vikings weren't playing the same defense late in the 4th quarter they had been the rest of the game.

Often on those last two Texans drives they were rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage , just keeping everything in front of them , making the clock tick.

Only when they did that did the Texans offense start moving the ball with any effectiveness.

I don’t agree that Watson refuses to take easy yards. We see him do it every week.

He doesn’t do it on every play. No one does. Not if they want to last long in this league. Maybe you’re saying he needs to do it more often. Maybe you’re saying he needs to make better decisions when to & when not to take the easy yards.

Then I would agree with you. He doesn’t show good understanding for a feel for the game, big picture. I don’t think he’s got a good grasp for when he should take over a game or when he should let the game come to him.

At the same time I believe he’s been trying to make lemonade since he’s been here.

It’s like arguing with a toddler. They argue just to argue. No matter how much evidence your provide they will believe what they want

26:20 is the start of the NFL director of player personnel part -

The thing is he can be much better than he's currently playing & a new HC can get him much better than he's playing.but he has to do away with some bad habits that he's developed over his career...namely that hero ball. I think he has to get better with his eye discipline too...or put a visor on his helmet so defenders can't clue as well on him. I think that if the next HC that's brought in can get him better in both of those areas, the scheme he plays in won't matter much b/c the offense will be much better.

Didn't some player (Cobb or Cooks) tweet last week asking for a "quick game" to be installed?
Another false narrative.
The players asked for the quick game.

Wonderful person
Horrible coach
Tap the breaks on calling him a wonderful person. Insiders say he created a toxic atmosphere causing everyone to walk on eggshells. He is a volatile guy who fired plenty of people and cussed them out the building. He couldn't get along with great players. For his sake, I hope he reflects on his time here and works on being a better person and coach.

Bieniemy has never called any plays in KC, Reid has always been the sole play caller.
Bieniemy is heavily involved in the offense. Good article about the system in KC

Reid has pushed back on that by saying everyone is involved with picking plays and that “my energy” is devoted to making sure there are good plays to pick. Bieniemy also downplayed the notion that he’s a bystander while Reid runs the show.
