CUNNINGHAM [GROIN]............SUSTAINED LAST GAME..........NOT SURPRISED THAT HIS IS LIMITED IN CONTACT PRACTICE..............GROIN STRAINS, IF ANYTHING BUT A TWEAK, SHOULD BE GIVEN AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE RETURN.............WITH THIS DESIGNATION, YOU ALWAYS WORRY ABOUT THIS BEING ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A "SPORTS HERNIA"................EVEN IF THIS IS THE CASE, A PLAYER WILL TRY TO PLAY THROUGH THE SEASON UNTIL THEY CAN'T, BEFORE OPTING FOR SURGERY...................I'D BE SURPRISED IF HE IS NOT QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY.

HALL [GROIN]............SEE COMMENTARY FOR CUNNINGHAM.

GALLASPIA [HAMSTRING]...............HAD THIS PROBLEM EARLIER IN THE YEAR.............WHEN HE SUSTAINED HIS CONCUSSION IN WEEK 2, HE WAS NO LONGER LISTED AS A HAMSTRING.............REMEMBER, THAT FOLLOWING CONCUSSIONS, LOWER LIMB INJURY RISK SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES...................THIS BEING A RE-INJURY OF HIS HAMSTRING, INCREASED CAUTION FOR RETURN IS WISE............IF HE IS LIMITED THE REST OF THE WEEK, I EXPECT HIM TO BE QUESTIONABLE FOR SUNDAY

D. JOHNSON [ANKLE]............HE IS DEALING WITH A GRADE II LOW ANKLE SPRAIN.............I STILL BELIEVE THAT HE WILL NEED 1 MORE WEEK BEFORE PLAYING............HOWEVER, WITH THE TEXANS BEING DESPARATE IN THE RUNNING GAME, THEY MAY FORCE THE ISSUE WITH ANKLE BRACE SUNDAY.

KALAMBAYI [HAMSTRING]..............HE SUSTAINED HIS INJURY AGAINST THE CHIEFS.............i BELIEVE IT WAS A GRADE I.............A GRADE I HAMSTRING SHOULD BE RESTED ~3 WEEKS AND A GRADE 2 ANYWHERE FROM 4-8 WEEKS, SO FOR EITHER, HE IS AT THE BORDER OF BEING ABLE TO RETURN THIS WEEK.............I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF HE IS LISTED QUESTIONABLE, BUT PLAYS SUNDAY............WILL HAVE TO SEE HOW HE PROGRESSES THE REST OF THE WEEK.

OMENIHU [KNEE]............A NEW INJURY SUSTAINED WHAT I BELIEVE IS A MEDIAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT (MCL) INJURY...........IT COULD TAKE BETWEEN 1 AND 4 WEEKS TO RETURN..........AND IT WILL PROBABLY BE WITH A KNEE BRACE...........HE HAS NOT HAD A HISTORY OF KNEE INJURIES.

WATT, FOR WHATEVER IT'S WORTH, DID NOT MAKE THE INJURY REPORT.

I DO NOT EXPECT EITHER CONLEY OR COULTER TO COME OFF OF IR FOR SUNDAY.

CB CAMERON DANTZLER [RIB]...........SUSTAINED A CARTILAGENOUS INJURY WEEK 1............DID NOT PRACTICE ALL WEEK 2 OR 3 OR PLAY IN WEEK 2 OR 3.............A GOOD CHANCE HE SEES HIS FIRST GAME PLAY SINCE HIS INJURY THIS SUNDAY..............WEARING A FLAK JACKET.

CB MIKE HUGHES [NECK].............SUSTAINED WEEK 2............DID NOT PRACTICE ALL LAST WEEK OR PLAY WEEK 3..................HE SUFFERED A BROKEN VERTEBRA IN HIS NECK THAT CAUSED HIM TO MISS BOTH PLAYOFF GAMES LAST SEASON............DID NOT REQUIRE SURGERY.................NOW THAT HE HAS RE-INJURED HIS NECK, YOU MUST ENTERTAIN THAT HE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE AN UNDERLYING CONGENITAL DEFORMITY OF THE VERTEBRAE OR (ALTHOUGH HEALING SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY IMAGING) A NON-UNION OF THE FRACTURE...................HE WILL NOT PLAY SUNDAY.

CB KRIS BOYD [HAMSTRING]..............SUSTAINED LAST WEDNESDAY IN PRACTICE, DID NOT PRACTICE THE NEXT DAY AND WAS LIMITED ON A WALK-THRU FRIDAY............HE DID NOT PLAY WEEK 3............HE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SEE THE FIELD SUNDAY WITH EVEN A GRADE I INJURY.

I found it strange that the Vikings posted a ''standard'' Injury Report yesterday........while their facility was shut down [it was not opened for practice until today].............and yesterday's Injury Report was not qualified with the typical "This is what would have been expected, had the team practiced.''

The Vikings have reported that their Wed Injury Report was estimated.

CUNNINGHAM, FULLER,HALL, L. JOHNSON AND OMENIHU WERE ALL UPGRADED TO FULL PARTICIPATION (IN WALK-THRU).

ADJUST A MODERATE HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN TO PREVIOUSLY REPORTED D. JOHNSON LOW ANKLE SPRAIN.

MY PREVIOUS COMMENTARIES REGARDING SUNDAY ARE UNCHANGED...........EXCEPT, I AM SOMEWHAT SURPRISED THAT OMENIHU DID NOT CARRY AT LEAST A "QUESTIONABLE."

We are fortunate the 2-time Vikings Pro Bowler DE Danielle Hunter will not be playing Sunday.

Hunter was originally reported to have experienced a "tweak" to his neck in Aug. He sustained the injury before on-field TC practices were open to reporters starting Aug. 14. He was placed on IR Sept. 9, and the Vikings have sidestepped all inquiries to the true nature of the injury. He was to return for this game. That's not happening. He is actually dealing with a significant cervical ruptured disc. With the information I have, there is little chance that surgery is not in his future.

Vikings' CB Boyd has now been downgraded to OUT (where I posted from the beginning he should be).

Vikings WR Tajaé Sharpe not previously on the Injury Report this week, fell ill today and has also been designated as OUT.

Danielle Hunter’s personal trainer thinks he should sit out the season
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 6, 2020, 1:29 PM EDT

The personal trainer for Vikings defensive lineman Danielle Hunter wants to see Hunter prioritize his health and sit out the full season.

Hunter, who has been on injured reserve all season with a neck injury, has not said publicly when (or if) he plans to return. But James Cooper, the personal trainer who has been working with Hunter for his entire NFL career, believes that Hunter would be wise to take his time and see if his neck heals on its own before having surgery.

“I just gave [Hunter] my opinion that it’s best to try to let it heal naturally,” Cooper told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “He’s young. He has his entire career in front of him. I’ve given him my opinion that I would sit out the rest of the season.”

Hunter suffered what was initially described as a “tweak” in his neck in August, but it’s clear that the injury was more serious than first believed — perhaps serious enough to end his season before it begins.

Unfortunately, many personal trainers believe they can rehab virtually any condition. This is one condition that delaying surgery may have some real and irreversible consequences.

According to NFL Media, Hunter will have a procedure aimed at repairing a herniated disc in his neck.

The injury, repeatedly dubbed a “tweak” by coach Mike Zimmer in the preseason, derails a promising career that saw Hunter rack up 54.5 sacks in five seasons.

The question now becomes whether his next season will happen in Minnesota. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media says that the Vikings will have to decide in the offseason whether to make Hunter the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL or trade him.

The Vikings, however, have Hunter under contract for three more years. They could choose to keep him, or to adjust his contract in a way that doesn’t make him the highest-paid defensive player in football.
