I hate to admit it, but keeping OB was the right call.

While the rest of the fans are hopefull for a 2020 season. I gave up on 2020 before covid showed up to ruin it for everyone else.

Maybe keeping him was the right call, but making him a GM after 51-7 seems myopic, at best.

That said, I hope I'm wrong and he ends up being a great HC/GM and brings this city a championship. I can't root against the team because I disagree with a decision.

I don’t believe keeping O’Brien was the right call.
Casserly, Capers, Kubiak, Smith, and OB have been one bad call after another. I didn't include Gaine in this mess b/c I'm just not that sure he was the exclusive GM....he was part of the Texans two-headed GM system and the other head sabotaged him.

That same head sabotaged Smith as well. Even though I believe Smith should’ve been shown the door along with Kubiak.

Agreed Gaine was in a very sticky situation.

If OB truly gets out of the way of Kelly, I think he is a decent head coach. He cannot manage everything and he shouldn’t try. Focus on the big picture and managing the game itself. Let your coordinators run the individual teams.

As for GM, I actually think he can eye talent somewhat. And he knows guys that fits what he wants for the team. The problem is his terrible negotiating skills. He’s been burned with every trade and he keeps over paying for mediocre talent. He needs a GM that can negotiate but that will allow him to pick the players.

Smith had a decade of mediocrity. How much more time did you want to give him.

Gaine had H/R issues, which had nothing to do with BOB.

I feel like the offense will be different not because of Tim Kelly but for the personnel changes. Other than that, the offense will be what O'Brien wants it to be. I don't feel like O'Brien will ever truly relinquish control over the offense. And he's got the perfect fall-guy to blame when the offense comes undone. O'Brien is like an octopus; he lops off one tentacle and just grows a new one. The new one is just another extension of his self that he can sacrifice when he need's to get himself out of trouble.

I really hope you are wrong and Tim Kelly gets to do his job unhindered. I also doubt it.

I dont like the move either, but keeping him and making him GM made me have zero hope for 2020 anyway, so Im not disappointed because the season is likely ruined due to covid.... it was already ruined in my mind due to OB. I dont root against my team either, the day I do that I may as well walk away from football as I ONLY watch the Texans, same as I only watched the Oilers. (With the exception of a Superbowl if I got nothing going on that Sunday) When the Oilers left, I walked away from football and only returned because of the Texans..... so no, I am far more likely to just walk away than root against my team.... but I want one of two things. OB gone, or OB to pull his head out of his chin and live up to the hopes of all his supporters.

Yep, I certainly understand this perspective. My gut says the same thing, but I'm attempting to be optimistic (in spite of my pragmatic nature). :worldpeace:

Yeah, nothing new under the sun. McNairs have had almost two decades of mediocrity and Houston football fans have endured 50+ years of it. The football gods are aholes. ;)

The Texans talent level isn't on par with the Chiefs/Ravens so getting to an AFCCG will require luck/health. We're not even ready to talk about SB's.

When you say getting his head out of his butt what do you mean? They lost to the SB champion, clearly a more talented team.

Buccaneers and Browns fans have dealt with being poor most of the time and mediocre at best for most of their existence. Yes the Buccaneers did win a Super Bowl but since before then and mostly after they have endured very little joy in the way of winning. I also forgot the Detroit Lions. Those three teams have had it bad. Way worse than we have it. I would throw the Saints in there but since just before them winning the title they have been formidable. So while we have it bad there are fans who endure and have endured way more suffering than us.

Yes I admit that the sting of being mediocre at best would not be as bad if like the Buccaneers we won a title. However it would be a lot better if we were anywhere near as good and fun to watch as the Saints have been since just before and after they won their lone title.

I suppose I could throw in the Bills. After the mid 90's their fans have endured a lot of lost losing seasons. There are a few other teams I could mention but I am sure you know who they are.

Actually, I said "his chin" but same difference.

You assume I was talking about KC....I wasn't, but that certainly doesn't help his case. My problem with the loss to KC is the fashion in which that loss came (My car is by no means a supercar, but you give me a 30 minute head start it will take you longer than 3 minutes to catch me even if you are in a Bugati), but again, its not even about that loss. It is his astounding ability to make bad choices as a constant theme and of his inability or unwillingness to change.

I wish that my dislike of OB were based off the ineptitude of one game and not a constant theme of ill preparedness

I wasn't talking Texans in a SB either, so I would agree.

Until the talent gets on a level with the Chiefs/Ravens you can expect more of the same old same old. Blacklock is a good start.

Disagree. There are three playoff caliber teams in this division.

BTW, we keep calling the Texans "mediocre". Mediocre teams don't make playoffs. Only 37.5% of the league makes playoffs. That's above mediocre.
Perhaps. That's certainly one way to look at it.

Although. . .three of the AFC South teams have made it to the AFC Championship game in O'Brien's tenure. I'd say the one that hasn't made it is most likely mediocre in comparison. So maybe it's just about chosen perspective.

Not to mention, the Texans can, and often do look pretty lost when facing elite teams with BoB as coach. "Signature wins" that signifies the Texans "arrival" as a Super Bowl contender has eluded this coach. And TBH, with all the draft assets and talent that BoB the GM has shipped out or lost in such a short period of time I can't predict a reversal in this trend. If anything, I see it going in the opposite direction - losing (badly) to teams they have no business losing to. Like that Broncos game last year in which O'Brien came unglued while running into the tunnel.

Wow!! Really? After 6 years, you’ve really come to that conclusion? And even if I give you his having an eye for talent, sorry, couldn’t type that with a straight face, what talent he does bring in he misuses. I seriously do not understand how one could have that take at all.

I am giving BO'b the benefit of the doubt this season. Beyond that I could be done with him as our teams head coach. If our team gets through a tough schedule and at least makes it to the AFC Championship game than I will look a little less hostilely at him as a HC/GM.

Of coarse that also hinders on whether our teams key contributors can stay for the most part healthy. The injury bug that has bit our team in the recent past allows for a little wiggle room for BO'b. At least where I am concerned.

His team last year went as far as their talent would take them. They lost to a more talented team with a future HOF QB. SB champs

So if you're critical of his play then you get this post. Guess what? He doesn't know are care what I think and I feel the same way about him. If he wants to live the celebrity life then so be it. I could care less. However I will continue to thank him for all of the laughs he provides me with his confused style of play each week.
I don’t ever respond to you, like ever. But today I’m feeling generous. I know why you don’t like Deshaun didn’t from day 1 with your little off the field comments. So I’m honestly not surprised as to why you don’t like him.

I said he was a middle of the pack QB, which is proving to be a generous statement.

What did I say about his off field stuff? Other than I would rather the Texans QB be working on his game rather than protesting and exposing himself to the Covid-19?

DW4 is not qualified at this time to be on any All-Time list for QB's (300 attempts away). That being said, when you compare his stats for his first three seasons against the All-Time list if he were qualified today...

Completion % - Top 5
Yards Per Attempt - Top 5
Yards per Game - Top 15
Rating - Top 5
TD % (of attempts) - Top 15
INT % (of attempts) - Top 20

Throw in being .648 as a starter in those first three years, with 8 fourth quarter comebacks in 37 career starts.

But yeah, he is a middle of the pack QB.

So the last 9 games he's loked as good as these stats you posted? IYO

No, but he's much better than the way you've painted him as well. If he's putting up those stats playing in this offense, with this OL, running game, TE/SWR usuage, and now a receiving corp minus D-Hop......what in the world did you want him to do? With the defense in the shitter since 2017....any ideas as to how this is supposed to help? Also, before you say "excuses"....show me any area of this team (besides Watson) that you can say is truly a strength.

I surely hope we bring in a coach who will actually coach Watson up and help him with his growth. The kid has the potential to be great.

OB the HC choked that game. Not the talent of the players.

You seem to forget the field goal on 4th and 1 when they were 13 yards away from a TD, and a fake punt that failed miserably deep in their own territory.

That game was way bigger and more than OB could handle.

Being up 24-0 did I expect more? Yes.

He did exceed expectations for 1 quarter but reality caught up with in the next 5 minutes.
