2021 Texans Draft Talk

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
I'm going to start the conversation since the 2020 CFB season could be up in the air.....or it could be up in the air until right around 5-7 November. It could be a shortened season like MLB with the hope fans will tune in for CFB Bowl Season and Playoffs. Anyhow, it's going to be a difficult to gauge players but it'll be whatever it is b/c the 2021 NFL Draft will happen as planned.

Projected 2021 needs: CB, ILB, WR, RB, & DE

One player that looks pretty interesting and could be an answer for a position of need:

ILB- Baron Browning / Ohio St / 6-3 @ 248 lbs / 40 times projected at high 4.4 to mid 4.5 / Solid downhill tackler with good wrap-up skills. Needs more time to develop coverage skills but with naturally fluid hips it could be nothing more than time on the field to complete the development process. These are not unusual traits for Ohio St LB'ers since they are usually athletically gifted athletes.

One site has him projected as a RD6 pick......and they actually project the Texans as his future team. Me, if he gets anywhere near that 4.4-40 time, he's not going to be on the board in RD6. Texans could target a guy like this in RD3, RD4, or RD5 if that 40 time is in the higher 4.4 to 4.5 range.

It's hard to find motivation to get interested in this upcoming draft... a FO that doesn't seem to prioritize bringing in and developing young players via the draft, no first round pick, no second round pick, and likely a mid-late third.

If I am reading the correct sources, the Texans have

R3 Houston
R4 Houston
R4 Arizona
R5 Houston
R6 Houston
R6 Miami
R7 Houston

There is still some draft capital there, but it is not very exciting.

I hate to say it but I think that 3rd rounder is a top half of the round pick and they send Miami two picks in the top 40ish.

I have very little faith in this roster , I expect the run defense to be atrocious , the pass defense to be bottom of the league again.
On offense , I don't expect them to get much out of the running game and that they will be playing from behind an awful lot because of that defense.

It'll be hard for them to reach 6-10 after an 0-4 start.

Not that an early 3rd round pick is anything to get excited about ....

The 2020 Texans draft class is a very good one and has a couple of guys that could develop into long time starters. BOB and company just have to develop them.

As far as the 2021 class, unlike Corrosion I think the Texans are going back to the playoffs and if their run defense needs shoring up BOB will make an in season trade for a NT. NT's come cheap on the trade market. They also have the ammo to move up into the 2nd rd if a player they like falls. (Hopefully a NT or LB that can cover.)

In your opinion does OB survive a season like you've described?

Man .... I didn't think he would survive the playoff loss to the Colts at home. Nor the KC debacle yet he walked away from that with the GM role too.

I just don't know what it would take to get that guy outa here. He's like a roach .... those damn things survive a nuclear winter.
