4th round (141st overall) John Reid, CB from Penn State

Interested to hear from Doc, think he had a blown knee in HS and College. Looks like a nickel cover guy that may be able to cover tight for a bit then get beat, so maybe Weaver plays aggressive man and the slot won't be immediately open so the rush gets home. Bio says not much of a special teamer so he probably needs to make the team as a slot cover guy? Most analysts saw him undrafted so seems a little reachy

Jeremiah is pretty good so I feel better, "“As a junior, he struggled as a tackler,” Smith said. “This year, he led our team in missed tackle percentage. He knows where his weaknesses are. … I don’t know if there’s a better prospect going into the draft to play inside against those slot receivers.”

Looks like a guy that competes and takes coaching, so ok in the 4th

His HS knee injury was an MCL injury which he quickly recovered from. His College injury which was not ever characterized by Penn State was a non-contact ACL rupture sustained in an 2017 offseason practice. In 2016, besides playing CB, he acted as an effective punt returner. After his ACL, he no longer was used as a returner. His injury history is not particularly concerning............His 4.48 40 is on par for most CBs..............Reid also had the fastest 20-yard shuttle time at this year’s combine, clocking in at 3.97 seconds (an excellent testimony to functional knees).

I was hoping we could convert him to safety, but after reading his tackling reviews, not looking promising

As an IT guy, I find it interesting that Reid interned as a programmer and data scientist. If he doesn't work out as a CB, he can help the front office with his data analytics skills. His first task would be to chart the number of A gap runs on first down and 2nd down runs after incomplete 1st down passes.

He' a good athlete with impressive foot speed: not a burner but sub 4.5 40 (and recorded at the combine so ligit) is solid.
He appears to be a real sharp young man who's also really very passionate about football.
Might be a real sleeper here, so may have to give an atta boy on this one sometime down the road to our GM/HC.

Well I hope he's talented, because it sounds like he's making this team for the next 4 seasons no matter what.
 
Just how bad did the coaching staff think John Reid was? Saw significant snaps on defense in only 2 games? All the while the Texans were dealing with injuries, suspensions, and atrocious play in the secondary? Hargreaves, Crossen, Lonnie Johnson...still better than the rookie out of Penn State. According to the coaches.

Reid will get another shot with another staff next season. Hope he makes a better impression.
