Tytus Howard vs Andre Dillard

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans

Interesting article.....we might have hit on the Howard pick. I remember draft night where everyone was up in arms about it. If Dillard still needs more time after a year, we might’ve escaped a bust.
Maybe Dillard needs the same transition Howard got.....LT to RT. It could be the best for his development.

It definitely eases the disappointment.
It also tells me Texans did their homework on that OL class.
Augers well for this draft also.

Dillard needs to get stronger.

Howard's play was very promising as a small school guy. He's a RT not a LT and the Texans at that time needed a LT.

I'm very happy to get a 10 yr starter at RT at 23.
Texans were obviously serious about getting DW4 some protection with the Howard pick and the Tunsil trade.
Now we just need them all healthy and getting some quality playing time together.

That's great - but it only makes it even more puzzling as to why Brian Gaine was fired.
Can’t use hindsight in this scenario. No one thought Howard was worth a 1st rounder and with that info at the time and the teams’ obvious needs, it doesn’t make me wonder at all. What it does show is how the mob mentality can untrack something that can be really good if the results aren’t quite what they want.

We could still be looking at a tackle position to draft this year or to try and get through a trade.

We don't have two first rounders now over that. The Howard pick may have been questionable, but no one allowed time to let it play out. OB blew off our draft picks and now is cringing through the salary cap knowing he is going to have to pay Tunsil top dollar instead of a few young guys he could have built from the draft on a lower salary. It doesn't matter any way at this point as OB has continued on with highly questionable trades which is putting it very lightly.

I think that had more to do with his failure to right the ship in contract talks with Clowney, or at a minimum find a new home for him in exchange for fair draft capital.
