Is this the biggest choke in Texan history?

sports doesnt matter.period. lol
but its just the distraction some like to mess with
True. Sports is supposed to be the distraction from the real stress and pain in the world. But somehow it F...ing sucks more. Now I have to go back to the real world to escape this disappointment and failure. I appreciate everyone of my fellow Texans fans carrying this trivial burden with me.

Where do you live in Delaware? I was living in Wilmington when 35-3 happened. I remember riding my M/C to a friend's house in Newport to watch that game. I had an Oilers jacket on with a big oil derrick on the back and literally turned it inside out when riding back home. I was so embarrassed after that, especially having to face all of the Eagles fans on Monday.

Sorry man, agree to disagree. As bad as 35-3 was, giving up 51 points in 3 quarters in a critical playoff game after being ahead 24-0 in the 2nd quarter is as bad as is gets. In my opinion.

You must not even been alive for the 35-3.

I don’t know how many times I‘ve said this since I‘ve been here. Probably everytime 35-3 has come up.......

If that 35-3 had never happened, the Oilers would still be in Houston, and the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans wouldn‘t even exist.

So unless Cal packs the team up and moves them to Omaha.. (lol, I can’t only hope)

I was living in Dallas at the time. During the Jimmy Johnson Super Bowl years. It was hard going to work for months.

LOL, yes, I was alive.... I was almost in my teens when that happened.

this is the worst texan defeat in the 18 year history easy. doesnt take 35-3 away, but for a city to have to endure two of the most crippling losses in playoff history is cruel and unusual punishment. this is the kind of stuff that debilitates organizations. every fabric of your being is drenched in the stink of this loss. it will be brought up for years. the purge needs to begin asap.

The outcome didn't surprise me. They exposed the major weakness this team has had all year - the defense. I don't know how much of it is talent and how much is RAC. He needed to be more aggressive - Mahomes had too much time to throw the ball.

The fake punt surprised me with the field position, but it really didn't seem to matter where the Chiefs got the ball, just added one or two more plays before the scored a TD. I think BOB realized our defense could not hold KC and he needed to keep the pedal down. I applaud his aggressiveness, but up 24-0 and on your side of the field I don't agree with the call. Worse yet was the execution. I don't know how much of the delay in executing that play is on BOB and how much on Watson.

As gut wrenching as this loss was, if they fix the defense, they win this game. I think the biggest problem is lack of pressure on the QB from the front seven. I think we need to add a dynamic pass rusher and it may be time to.move on from RAC. I think his bend but don't break defense has finally broken.

not sure why anyone would mention the 35-3 bills/oilers game... that wasn't your team. clearly #1 blown loss in TEXANS history.

Worst blow out loss in TEXANS history. This hurt more than any 2-14 or 4-12 season. To see that articles after the game saying that O'Brien has a job and RAC is coming back tells me nothing will change. In 2018, I stopped paying for NFL Sunday ticket. In 2019, I stopped buying Texans merchandise. In 2020, I will stop watching Texans' football altogether. This franchise is going nowhere as long as this half ass prepared, unoriginal/terrible play calling sack of crap of a coaching staff is still working in Houston. I have spent eighteen years of my life rooting for a team that thinks divisional championship banners are the coolest thing.

I'm done. Gonna box up my Texans gear and donate it to the local homeless shelter. Maybe someone can stay warm with it this winter, because I'm done having the stench of Losers in my house.

Adios fellas. I'll not be watching or caring as long as BO'b is the HC/GM.

Delaware City. That's a good story. I actually still have that Oilers starter jacket in my attic. I was skiing in the poconos that day. I watched the game at a bar in the lodge. The bartender somehow happened to be a Bills fan and we bet $10 on the game just before it started. It was just horrible. Afterward I went back to skiing and was so drunk that I must have fallen 10 times on one run. I haven't been skiing since. Here we are again.

God awful display of not playing hard when you got the lead. When KC got in gear, Texans still did not want to play hard. Uggghhhhhhhhhhh

Or Texans does not know how to play hard.

TBH I think we wasted a lot of talent under BOB tenure...... I think I am gonna take a break from the Texans until BOB is no longer here.

I guess this is goodbye.

Not firing BO’B in KC is the biggest choke job in Texans’ history.
Not firing him after 30-0 loss to KC in Jan 2016 is the 2nd biggest.

Is it really a choke if a much superior team at the very beginning of the game shoots itself in the foot with missed assignments, turnovers and dropped passes and spots you a lead, then decides to pull their s**t together the last 2/3 of the game and completely and utterly dominates you to the tune of 7 TD drives in a row?

In other words, the only prayer the Texans has of winning was to hope KC effed up for an entire 60 minutes. can you really choke away a game you had zero shot of winning?

I hear you KarlK. I didn’t expect a win and would never have bet on one before the game started. They were clearly the better team that day. That being said once we were up 24 it has to be considered a choke. Our only chance of winning was for that flukey beginning to have occurred and it did. If you are spotted 24 in the NFL and can’t win it’s a choke. Just my opinion on the subjectivity of a choke.

Disagree. I think O'Brien tried to keep the ball away from KC but it didn't work. If it did, he's a genius.
Funny how it goes like that.
If it works, he's got balls (not a genius).
If it doesn't work, he's a desperate idiot.
If he wants to keep the ball away from Mahomes, he should have gone for it instead of kicking the FG.
He should have ran the ball more, including with Watson in the RPO, especially when the Chiefs were staying back to prevent the big plays.

The fact that you had to say that is indicative of how ex-Oiler fans regard this game. It’s nothing compared to 35-3. That game made the entire city a national laughingstock, and changed forever how much emotional attachment I apply to football. And I’ve said this a million times already, that 35-3 planted a seed of apathy that eventually led to Bud being told to not let the door hit him on the way out.

As for this game against the Chiefs..... sh!t, I’m over it already.

Well said, man.

35-3 felt like WE lost.

It broke me. I was depressed for two weeks.

And it certainly played a big part in the emotional detachment of Oilers fans as Bud and Bob Lanier played their little games.

This choke? I'm more Seinfeldian at this point: "THEY lost, and we watched" The only thing I lost was a couple of hours of my life, but I went outside at halftime. I could just tell that the Texans were going to continue to fold at that point.

It's too bad this city has had such crappy luck with its pro football teams.

But, it just continues to reaffirm my oft-stated attitude that it's just entertainment. And if I'm not entertained by it, I find something else better to do.

35-3 taught me that much.

This choke is just another joke. Better laugh, because we aren't the punchline in this one. That falls squarely on O'Brien, McNairs, and the rest of the franchise. And they will remain jokes to me until they prove otherwise.

Yes.

They're a much better offense but once they spotted us 24 points all we had to do was score three times in 3 qtrs against a defense that can be scored on.

We screwed up by gifting them 28 points in the 2nd qtr. If we don't shoot ourselves in the foot there in the 2nd we very well should have won that game.

We "never" kick a returnable ball on the kickoff (maybe the wind had something to do with that).

We "never" fumble on kickoff returns (we rarely bring them out of the endzone).

We "never" attempt fake punts.

If we didn't step out of our bland gameplan, we absolutely should have won that game.

Agree he should have gone for it on 4th and 1.
Even if you take those two "mistakes" away, (and added another 4 points for a TD) do you think for a moment our defense was going to hold them?

It may not be the worst in Houston's history but it still hit me damn hard. I know that I should have built up calluses from the 30-0 loss to the Chiefs & the curb stomping the Colts gave us last year but this one still bothered me. I am just so tired of the Texans being humiliated in the playoffs.

Since 2015 (the last time we played the Chiefs in a playoff game where we lost 30 to nothing) we have been through about 75 QBs, 2 GMs (3 if you count this flat management bullsh*t), at least 2 OCs, 2 DCs, 2 owners and god knows how many roster changes & yet we still look like a bunch of clowns on the football field.

From now on in post season when the Texans run onto the field to start the game they should play circus music. Or maybe they could drive a little car onto the field and have all the Texans come piling out.

I hate to say it but I'm really close to giving up on them.

Hey bro. I know it hurts. You’ll get through this. Some day, some how all the hell that you went through supporting this team will be rewarded. Besides we’re stuck with them. It’s like Herpes. Once a fan. Always a fan.

No.
But that's why the Texans should have gone with the running game more.

Just looked it up. Its tied for fourth. So Houston has two of the top 5 choke jobs in NFL playoffs history. Nice

We are still a relatively 'young' franchise - we can get a couple more spots! We are going to dominate that list man - this is our Superbowl. Choke Champions, I'll start working on the t-shirt design.

Hey, just because the box-6 defense got beat one time......

O'Briens decision to go for it on fourth down was an incredible blunder.
Why ? There was so much more to lose than there was to gain. Even a non football fan can understand this
because it's the old risk-reward ratio, it's a common sense kinda thing.
Thing is Bill O'Brien is just not very smart.
