Texans and the post season.

Well it's nice to be able to look forward to seeing what our boys can accomplish. First step in any season is to get to the playoffs - mission accomplished. Congrats there team.
However, even a homer like me recognizes the fact we are not the most dangerous looking threat to win it all.
This thread is not a hate session so I hope it does not degenerate into one, but rather one of constructive criticism.
There are a lot of good football minds in our little board, so I am hoping some good ideas and analyses can come to light here.
My modest contribution is I believe our offense has to be given the chance to reach it's potential and I am talking about scoring in the 30s range as we have seen in the recent past. We must not be tardy early in games.
JJ Watt will improve our pass rush but I hope he will be used at left or right end beside Reader. These two should provide enough push up the middle to put pressure on the QB and plug the middle against the run. It will also allow other rushers greater opportunity due to the attention they will draw.
My third critique is the penalties.
You simply cannot give good teams free yards. Yes, some pens will come but please keep them to a bare min.
I'll open it up.

I think the key to the playoffs will be the defense playing consistent and avoiding let downs and missed assignments. If they spot the other team two TDs to start the games, it will will be over before it begins. With good defensive play and a running game that is effective, we can beat any team we face in the playoffs. At time this is a very good teams and at others not so much.

It's too early to focus on the post-season. One day at a time... we know not the health nor that matchup of any teams as of yet

Talking match-ups, I agree that it is premature. There are some general playoff conversations to be had.

The one good thing going for the Texans, some of the younger guys, Watson for example had a good taste of playoff intensity last season. It didn’t go well, but he and others got some experience.

I think the N.O, New England and Kansas City games this season have taught these guys that they are not in over their heads come playoff time. We can beat ANY team this season, just as they proved any team can beat us just as well. (Well, maybe not the Bengals). This team will walk into the playoffs like they belong....because they do.

Hey all I'm here in Kansas City for 10 days. The fans here are all ecstatic for the Chiefs and lots of fan wear. I brought my Texans Santa Claus hat and knit hat too. When we go out from the hotel to anywhere there is a lot of football conversation.
Didn't I just read this post in another thread?

So far under BOB they've had the Hoyera of the world at QB or have run into teams that had better talent like the Colts last year.

Tbh it’s pointless watching the playoffs. Lol fact we’re likley to go against kc wildcard round should make you uncomfortable. Hey, we’re playing big name mahomes. There’s no way in hell the refs aren’t going to try an make him advance. NFL is about storylines and I’m pretty sure more people watch kc than Texans. With that being said, I have 0% trust in Ob. In fact, I refuse to let my emotions get involved so I won’t watch the game. I just know if that idiot plays will fuller vs titans this weekend risking him a injury before the playoffs, I might just snap but to answer the thread ? I believe we go to the superbowl this year. No way Watson isn’t going his 1st 5 years. He said he wanted to catch brady. He has to win one this season if he plans too

lol:

From the man (?) that guaranteed Watson would deliver a SB this year
Nobody panics when things go according to plan.. Even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I tell this board that the Texans will lose in the first round or divisional round. Nobody panics, because it's all part of the plan, but when I say one.. Texans will reach the superbowl.. WELL, THEN EVERYONE LOSES THEIR MINDS

We make the playoffs and it feels like a wake here. 20 other teams and their fan base would love to be in the position we are now. I know the history of this team in the playoffs doesnt instill confidence, but I refuse to write this team off before the playoffs even begin. I intend to enjoy the ride as long as it lasts.

Aren’t we projected to face Buffalo, and if we manage to pull out a win aren't we on to Baltimore? That’s the last projection I saw somewhere online. I’d gladly have us face the Chiefs and the Patriots since we’ve already beaten both of them this year.
If the season ended right now you are correct.

The only way this changes is if Chiefs move up to 2nd seed by winning their game and Pats losing theirs. Since Pats are playing Miami at Foxboro I don't see it happening but on the off chance it does Chiefs will be playing all starters. This is both good and bad for us because if 4th is as high as we get then we can rest the starters as a mini-bye week but bad in the sense of we saw what happened last time we had a bye week.

Chiefs are unlikely to lose at home to the Chargers on Sunday which means we’ll host buffalo.

Do I think we can beat the Bills? Yes but it will not be easy by any stretch. They have a disciplined defense and are very well coached. On offense, while josh Allen is not the arm threat like Mahomes, he does have the athleticism to move the chains if he needs to. Also they don’t have a number 1 wr but they have speed at the skill positions and speedy teams have given the Texans trouble since forever.

Win that game and you have a rested Ravens team at home. The same team that dominated you the first meeting. Barring injury, I think that’s the end of the line but I wouldn’t be shocked if the Texans lost to the Bills either.

Just for the sake of anything can happen, if the Texans somehow get the 3 seed, in the wild card round you’re looking at:

A. A 3rd matchup with Tennessee
-Hard to beat a team 3 times in a season but I like their chances better here than against Buffalo

B. Rematch against Oakland
-The game back in october was close but again against a 8-8 raiders team with their main offensive threat (Jacobs) banged up, I’d take the Texans

C. Steelers with a 2nd/3rd string QB
-Steelers have a hell of a defense but again their offense is putrid and I’d take that matchup any day of the week

Win that game and you get a rematch against the Patriots on the road this time. They rarely lose at home in the playoffs. Texans have shown they can beat them though. This also forces Baltimore and KC to play in the divisional round which IMO is a win because they’re the 2 best teams in the AFC. Plus, in this scenario if somehow the Texans upset the Pats and the Chiefs upset the Ravens, the Texans would host the AFC title game. Cart wayyyyyy before the horse I know...but anything is possible.

Last I checked Allen is a young QB bound to make mistakes in his first playoff game. I think you guys over value them. I want to play Buffalo and I hope we are preparing for them already.

As for playing Baltimore. I am ok with this too. If you cannot beat the best teams, do you even have a chance at beating anyone in the NFC in the Superb Owl? I think Watson would not allow what happened last time we played Baltimore to happen again.

If we can't win regardless of the road we have to take then we aren't championship material. I hope we have a string of "Any Given Sunday" moments that go our way in the coming weeks but it is doubtful based on what we have seen thus far. I am still rooting for our team either way. It would just be nice if the Texans gave us a little more confidence/hope about how ready they are to compete in the playoffs.

Weren't you the same guy earlier this season that was swearing that Watson would carry them over any lake or body of water that existed? Yeah, that was you claiming that he was so much better than Mahomes, so he should be able to do a lot in a playoff game. What is with this desire to claim a guy has to make it to the SB in his first 5 years? You're setting him up for failure pretty hard by doing that.

It's not possible to play KC in the WC round. And unless they get the 2 seed, it won't be possible to play them in the 2nd round either.

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
The Bills would be visiting with the 12th ranked rushing defense.....I think 104 yards per game. OB would need to see how his run game fairs early and if they're hitting the brick wall.....be willing to bail and go to a short quick passing game that involves Johnson and the TE's to help set-up the run game later in the game.

The Texans cannot fall behind early and penalties cannot kill offensive momentum. I think the Texans defense will depend on the lead given to them by the offense. Fairbairn cannot afford any missed kicks since he may be the deciding factor in this game.

Tweak the offense already!

I'm hoping we get the "do whatever it takes to win" BOB instead of the "gonna run my gEniUs oFFenSe no matter what" BOB.

I'm pretty sure he was playing off the Joker in the Dark Knight Returns.

That whole "according to plan" spill was almost word for word.

Well played DanielTX... well played.

This boils down to the offense doing something that they have done only four times all year - Have a good offensive day beginning to end.

NO , KC , Atlanta and NE ….

I really don't know what to expect from this team week to week ….

If they play like they did against the Buc's …. it looked like Tampa was trying to lose and the Texans were doing all they could not to let them …. They may as well stay home and save us the expense of tickets.

They have too much talent on the offensive side of the ball that the expectations should be higher.
The defense has done enough to win just about every game they have played - maybe Denver and New Orleans being the exceptions.

Watson and OB need to get on the same page and come up with an effective gameplan.

I'm from the area - St Joseph which is 50 clicks up I-29 north of KC. KC is a really good town, I've had lots of good times there.
Chiefs fans are among the most passionate and loyal in the entire NFL. Those people live for the Chiefs.

All I know is I'm in the fantasy championship with Deshawn as my QB, and my opponent is starting Tom Brady. Both likely have no reason to actually play, should I start Derrick Carr? :kitten:
