I think it's worthy of celebration. Even if we had won it at 8-8.

But I expected it. BO'bs just that good of a coach. Plus he has Watson. Those two are going to do great things together.

Yes, I point out holes in Watson's game & BO'bs coaching. But I think we're close.

I don't know if you remember but before the season I was talking about BO'b coaching Osweiler within three plays of beating New England in a divisional playoff game at Foxboro.

& I believe Watson will make those 3 plays.

That's where I'm at. Looks like utter chaos. But there's a light bulb about to go off in Watson's head & he will see what BO'b sees & he'll start saying things (at the LOS) like BO'b does & everything is going to start looking soooooo easy.

Despite my BOB grumblings I have to remember that its a game of gladiators in a car cash every play. Unbelievably violent and they’re the best in the world, less then a total of 1700 on this earth are good enough to play and take the field every week. It’s not easy to win much less win your division so well done and congrats to our boys from H Town, AFC South Champs!

I sure hope you are right. But right now, I've given up on Obrien. (again)

I expected this team to win the division - running away from the field early.

I expected a top 2 seed … they squandered that not once but twice.

They lost 3 games I believe they should have won - they were the better team - Carolina , Indy and Denver.

Woohoo , another division "championship" …. that's just grand.

I don't have any expectations of this team beyond the kickoff of the wildcard game against Buffalo. I don't know which team I expect to show up …. the one that beat the Patriots or the one that lost to Denver , Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde ?!

This team is consistently inconsistent … and OB consistently makes elementary coaching mistakes be it field position , time outs / clock management , challenges ….

A division "championship" I feel is the plateau for this team as currently constructed despite the amount of talent on both sides of the ball ...

Maybe they beat the Bills …. wonderful. Anyone here besides maybe @DanielTx think they are going into Baltimore and coming out a winner ?!

The best thing that could have happened to this franchise was missing the playoffs and getting a fresh start with a new regime.

Rather , next year we're doomed to another rerun of the last few - a division "championship" …. and nothing more. Such is the life of a Pro Football Fan in Houston Texas …. be it the Oilers or the Texans.

I remember a Manning led Colts team that feasted on a weak AFCSouth year after year hoisting their banners. They have 1 Superb Owl to show for their period of dominance during that stretch. Yet, they are fondly remembered as champions.

Now...the Texans are winning the weak AFCSouth regularly, but fans aren't happy about it. Yes....we are missing the Superb Owl appearance, and the AFC Championship appearance.....but it takes getting into the playoffs to even make those possible. We keep punching these tickets and eventually it will pay off. This is something to celebrate no matter what they looked like in the process of getting there.

I just keep thinking, if the Texans had missed the playoffs, after the future picks they traded away for this opportunity, I would have been in a sour mood. And the only salvation for this team in my eyes would have been chopping some heads.

The Texans now have a (slim) chance of playing in the SB this season. Which is better than no chance at all.

While the Colts only won one Super Bowl, they made another one, and did win a number of divisional playoff games...they at least gave their fans realistic hope every year as they entered the playoffs- the Texans haven’t.
Peyton Manning finally got his first win after making 4 playoff starts. (Watson has only made 1 playoff start, this season marks his second). 5 playoff appearances with Manning before their 1st Superbowl win together. My point in this post, is to show how the Colts have feasted on the AFCSouth repeatedly until finally making noise in the playoffs. We can do the same.

Jan. 16, 2000: The Colts improve by 10 wins in Manning's second season, winning their division and a first-round bye. However Manning's playoff debut is a disappointment as he completes just 19 of 42 passes and fails to throw a TD in a 19-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Jan. 4, 2004: Manning finally gets his first win in four playoff starts, posting a perfect 158.3 passer rating (22-for-26, 377 yards, 5 TDs) in a 41-10 wild-card throttling of the Denver Broncos.

Jan. 18, 2004: The Colts fall 24-14 to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, the first time Manning — who was picked off four times — and Brady lock horns in the playoffs. New England would go on to win the Super Bowl, while Manning was named league MVP for the first time, a fitting microcosm of how he would be compared to Brady in future years.

Jan. 16, 2005: The Colts fall to the Patriots 20-3 in the divisional round as Manning is limited to 238 passing yards and an INT. Manning, who would again be named league MVP, would never lose another playoff matchup to Brady.

Jan. 21, 2007: Manning throws for 349 yards and a TD while leading the Colts back from a 21-3 second-quarter deficit to beat the Patriots 38-34 in the AFC Championship Game.

Feb. 4, 2007: The Colts win their first Super Bowl in 36 years, defeating the Chicago Bears 29-17, as Manning earns MVP honors after passing for 247 yards and a TD on a rainy night.

So since they probably cant beat Baltimore you dont want the Texans to make the playoffs.

This just in, the Ravens are a much better team than the Texans are. They're getting much better QB play.

BTW, I agree with you since I will have to pay for playoff tickets and I feel they have about a 1% chance of making it to the SB with the poor QB play they've been getting lately.

I know some of us have mixed emotions. But as we can see our players are extremely happy about winning the AFC South again. Shoots if I was a player I would be excited to.

Congratulations Texans

Mixed emotions? Lol!

Why would anyone have mixed emotions if their team locked up their division and can possibly rest their players the next week even?

How anyone isn't at least pleased about that is as sad as it gets. :gathering:

Meh AFC South Champs is like picking the best looking girl at fat camp. Hey if thats all you got, then you rock her world!!

I'd be more interested to see these guys actually control their destiny. Winning next week to me is a MUST WIN if you really think you can threaten as a contender in the 3rd seed.

Resting guys and planning parades for division winners is a bad look.

We'll know before kickoff if 3rd seed is a possibility. If it isn't, resting anybody/everybody you can is just prudent.

The more I think about it, I would rather go to battle healthy against whoever we have to then limp in and play "easier" teams. Playoff teams are worthy opponents and last year we had no receiving corp to even threaten the Colts. Of course the #3 seed looks better, but KC is likely 70% to win, and the Titans game will be physical as heck so rest the hurt guys but play to win. If DW4 is truly healthy, play him, if hurt even 15%, rest him

This +1

If they make it to the SB, you want to know what I would find so extra enjoyable? Knowing full well that there are a lot of folks here that WOULDN‘T enjoy it strictly because OB is the HC.

Talk about derangement syndromes.

Good for the team. :bravo:

But, winning the division is still just a means to the end. It's a step, one I'm glad they've accomplished, but let's not act like we'll all be happy if that's all they accomplish this season.
Right. Winning a division is the most guaranteed way to make it to the 2nd season. It's also the most guaranteed way to raise ticket prices next year, but I digress. The entire 1st season (regular season) is played to be one of the 12 teams to win your way to the 2nd season. You have zero chance to win a Super Bowl, which is the ultimate goal, if you don't make the 2nd season. So that is important. But as DB, and others have said, it's just step 1.

If they have another 1st round flame out, or they get bounced in the 2nd round for a 4th time, and our great leader starts snapping at reporters, "AFC South champions 4 out of 5 years, Brian", then clearly somebody doesn't have their priorities in order.

Look at all the division titles the Patriots have. The difference with them is that when they get to the 2nd season, they keep playing in to February. The Texans have never gotten past a 2nd game.

So the division title is fine, and important, and if you want to hang a thousand banners for it, whatevs, but that's not the end game. Hoisting a Lombardi, or hell, even a Hunt, is what you play this game for.

My life will go on the same if they get embarrassed in the playoffs versus not making it to the postseason at all with the lone exception of the content of the completely unimportant things I post on this board.

See how unimportant that was? I know my worth. I don’t even have a thread about me; unlike someone I know.

The more I think about it, the more I don't see a difference between the 3 & 4 seed. Yeah, the Ravens look like a Juggernaut. But when was the last time a team beat New England twice, in the same season, in Foxboro?

Wherever we go, it's uphill so...

It really has nothing to do with not being able to beat any particular team - The Ravens included.

It boils down to improvement over the year before - We haven't seen that nor do most of us expect it with the current coaching staff (and QB in your case).

Its been 6 years and OB is still making the same mistakes in game / team / clock management. Is there anything that makes you think he's suddenly going to put it all together ?? I don't see it.
Is he suddenly going to figure out his QB isn't a Tom Brady or Drew Brees clone that can pick teams apart from the pocket ?! I don't see it ….

Then you look at teams like Baltimore who have very similar QB's to ours putting their guy in positions that work for him - and pass catchers that are wide open , easy throws as a result of the pressure their QB puts on a defense.
Those same teams have coaches who show competence in game / team and clock management.

6 years in …. expecting OB to get it is insanity.

Its time to move on , bring in a new vision cause the old one has proven , over time its not good enough.

It makes me happy because back in Aug/Sep so many predicted a losing season... even last in the division.

But yeah, I want more

My expectations were much higher …. 12-4 or better and a top 2 seed.

Anything short of the AFC Championship game is a letdown IMO.

I really thought this team was talented enough on both sides of the ball , even with the holes in the OL to make that happen - Then they go and fix the LT spot and Johnson looked really promising at RT.

That's why some of these losses have been so frustrating for me - I feel like they lost to teams they should have beaten like a drum in Carolina , Indy and Denver.

New Orleans and Baltimore are easier to accept , those are toss up games against good teams when you look at the schedule.

Now how they lost that Baltimore game is another thing altogether - that was embarrassing and should be an indictment on the coach for not having his team ready to go in the game with the greatest playoff implications of the season - It was for a top 2 seed.
Then you were gifted another shot at that top 2 seed and pissed it away too in much the same fashion …. You just didn't show up.

I like the cut of your jib.

Really, I’d say what I mean but for the unity and peace of this board right now, I’m alright with everybody. Once the Texans lose, though, it’s every man for himself and woe be unto those on the hot seat, therefore or otherwise.

I imagine your very much right. I'd recommend the "basement thread" for hashing out any issues worth your time...
