I'll be at Ray Jay on Saturday. It'll be very weird because I am a fan of both teams and follow them both. Admittedly, I know more about the Bucs because I live in the area now. Here's my "scouting report" from the POV of a Bucs fan.

Jameis Winston is probably the most frustrating QB that I've ever followed. I've never seen a guy look so good then look so horrible in the same game. He can look like a HOFer in between throwing picks and spotting the other team points. He's starting to overcome those errors (not eliminating them, overcoming them). For example, in the Colts game he threw 3 INTs (1 was a pick 6), however he overcame that with 450 yards passing and 4 TDs. The Bucs have to make a decision on him this offseason. Some plays I'm like "there's no way you can bring this guy back" ... then other plays I'm like "there's no way that you can't bring this guy back". He really makes you bi-polar as a fan.

The Texans are going to catch a huge break because the Bucs have no receivers this week. The top 3 guys (Evans, Godfrey, Miller) are now out due to injuries. The best WR on the field on Saturday will be a guy that I was wanting them to cut about 4 weeks ago in Breshad Perriman. He couldn't catch a cold a few weeks ago, however now he's starting to pick up his game. He had 3 TDs last week. Arians hasn't been utilizing the tight ends, however I think he will have to now. Cam Brate has been decent here, however they really need to get going with OJ Howard. He's a 1st round pick and hasn't been utilized much at all except catching foul balls from the Astros with his bare hands. :). The other WRs will be some scrubs that they've signed off the practice squad or street. The local sports radio station has been joking about that this week.

The Bucs haven't run the ball much at all this year either. Ronald Jones has dramatically improved this year (last year he looked like a total bust), however he's missed some key blocking assignments and Arians has benched him over that. He's the better runner over Peyton Barber. The bottom line is, there isn't much of a running game here right now.

The Bucs O-line has had its issues as well. Winston is constantly under pressure which is why I think he throws a lot of picks. That said, for a guy that's not that mobile, Winston is very good at wiggling his way out of sacks and evading pressure.

The Bucs defense is very solid at stopping the run. No one has run the ball very well against the Bucs defense this year. Suh and Vea are the biggest reasons why. Those guys have been very good. I'm really impressed with Vea and he's looking like the first-rounder that he was.

The biggest surprise this year has been OLB Shaq Barret. He was signed as a FA from the Broncos and he's been a monster. He leads the NFL in sacks and just tied Warren Sapp's franchise sack record last week. He very well might earn the franchise tag this off-season.

The issue with the Bucs defense has been giving up big plays in the passing game. They are a very young unit and are still learning the system. That said, since cutting Vernon Hargreaves, as a unit they have improved dramatically. Hargreaves was not a good influence on a secondary full of rookies and second-year guys. I'll leave it at that since I've already given my opinion of VH elsewhere on this board. :)

The Bucs kicking game has been better this year. That has been an Achilles heel for them for the last several years. Matt Gay is a rookie and for the most part has been pretty good, however missing that chip shot vs the Giants cost them that game. If he would have made that they might be in playoff contention right now.

So the Bucs have won 4 in a row and 5 out of the last 6. It's good to see them turning things around and catching on to Bruce Arian's culture. While I would like to see them finish 9-7, I also want to see the Texans win the AFC South ... so don't ask me whom I will be rooting for on Saturday, I'm not sure that I even know. :)

The good news for the Texans is even if they lose this game, chances are they will still win the AFC South. Considering that Winston has no one to throw to, the Texans shouldn't lose this game though.

BTW, if anyone is making the trip over and needs a place to tailgate, etc, just hit me up.

Represent this team well on Saturday man. Let's get the win. I believe the Texans will pull out the W here and wrap up the division and we will be laughing at the Titans and Jags on Sunday like we did the Colts on Monday

Nice write up Hook! I wish my schedule would have shaken out better I've never been to Tampa and hear nothing but good things.

You know this game feels eerily similar to the Bronco game. It will be something to watch how these guys come out. Far too often they just look ahead or underestimate the opponent and just chase butterflies or wonder what they are having for dinner that night - whatever it is you are absolutely right, Winston with this sketchy defensive backfield could have a field day regardless of who's catching the passes. There will be openings so I hope the coaches go above and beyond in banging that home.

Bruce Arians is such a good coach. I think once he sets up the foundational pieces you guys over there could be set up really well for a nice run.

Even without their top receivers I doubt Arians is going to change the offensive game plan much. The Texans secondary is suspect at best.

Judging by Hookem’s excellent write-up I expect big plays from both offenses. I haven’t looked yet but the O/U should be in the neighborhood of 48.

I was in Tampa once; I forgot where it is on the map.
:hides:

Just kidding. That was over 30 years ago.
We were in the mid 20s.
Had some fun, but don’t remember at all what we did. LOL

Now THAT sounds like fun .. the 'blackout days' when it didnt matter where we slept or even the location as long as there was beer, tequila and girls!! I've been all over Florida, but have not made the effort to get down to Tampa. Not sure why. Miami, Daytona, Key West, Marco Island, Jacksonville, Orlando, Pensacola ... my favorite spot nowadays is Destin! (I know I know YUCKY TOURISTS) but for me I know exactly where to go to avoid the crowds, when to avoid them, fishing is AWESOME and I dont think I've spent time on a nicer beach in the lower 48.

Hey Hookem as a native of the KC Mo area I too have those weird sentiments whenever the Chiefs play the Texans.
Anyway what's the motivation, the reason(s) for the Bucs to get up and play hard in this game Saturday ?

There is a lot of areas in this state that I am not crazy about and have earned the reputation of "Floriduh". I won't really get into those. This area however is the best place to live in this state. It's hits all of my checkboxes. The water is nicer here, the people are more normal, I live on an island so don't have to deal with alligators and bear like we did in Orlando, most of my favorite bands like playing here and come multiple times a year, less trashy people, and Tampa Bay has the NFL and NHL which are my favorite two sports.

Here are some reasons in photos why I love it here ...

These were my seats when I had season tickets. It's cheaper not to have season tix here.

wow that looks awesome! Like a dang VRBO! I honestly don’t know why I’ve never gone. I’m going to make it a point to book something in the near future. I never thought negatively of Tampa I just never thought of it as a destination I gues. My sister has been telling me about St Pete’s beach how it’s the best in the country. That’s a bold statement I told her, but it sure does look pretty from the little I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing.

St Pete Beach is real nice. All the beaches on this strip are good. We own an Air BnB next door to our condo. It’s an historic beach cottage built in 1925.

If anyone is ever interested just hit me up. Here’s the link on Air BnB.

Start'em. If you have to trade your #1 RB to get him, do it.

I was optimistic about our "Replacement Guys" secondary. But it hasn't seemed to pay-off just yet.

This makes me miss my grandparents. When my grandfather retired they moved from Shreveport, LA to Pensacola, FL when I was only seven years old. Every year in August we spent two weeks with them. Those beautiful white sands and clear waters are etched in my mind forever.

Thanks for posting the pictures. They brought back some wonderful memories.

Btw, my grandparents lived right on the bluff. We could look out the big windows of their modest bungalow and see schools of fish when they drifted by. More than a few times we’d (dad, grandfather, brother and myself) rush to our fishing poles, and down the steep stairs leading to the beach in hopes of catching dinner. It would not be long before the fishing boats arrived and compete with us.

I plan on moving to Florida after my mother passes away. I won’t have the view but I’ll have the ability to get to the beach; browse the Miracle Strip, if it’s still there and called that.

FYI - Ted and Kat hopped on a plane to TPA this morning. Hopefully, you'll run into each other.

In contrast to Brown, Tunsil tomorrow will be there to enforce the private "no kick zone"............
Suh: "Of course, as it is plainly evident, it was an unintentional inertial follow-through".......

Oops. didn't see this. I guess you can either delete or merge my thread. LOL
Your thread was posted first.

I lived in Tallahassee for a year and went to Jacksonville a few times, but never went to Tampa, Miami, or Gainesville.

I'll just let yall do these threads from here on out, I don't even know why I started it. Instead of a prognostic game caller, I'll settle for my grumpy old man aura. It's more accurate and fitting. :)

But, since I'm here, I think the Texans win this one.

Hey Hookem what kind of a contribution does one need to make to get one of those cute little green logos ?
I've mailed you a couple of individual contributions in recent years including a 100 bucks back in September.

Spoke way to soon apparently.

He totally blew it for them all game long.
