What 1 Texan will you focus on?

I realize that there are many players that are going to greatly impact the game for Houston. However I'm asking you to name only one player on entire roster you are going to watch with the idea that he can be a significant key to a win.

I am going with running back Carlos Hyde.

I will be focusing on 4 different guys

Watson/Howard/Conley/Reader

Really I'm very curious to see how the revamped secondary looks.

Bill O'Brien. It's **** or get off the pot time for him as far as I'm concerned. I've had a ******* belly full of these losses to New England over the last 7 years it's time for this team to grow up and beat these motherfuckers right here and now. If Bill can't get it done here I'm ******* done with him. I never wanted him to begin with but he grew on me in 2014-2015-2016, even though he had major glaring flaws as a head coach I was willing to give him time to get better. Then after 2017 I wanted him gone but the big win streak they went on after 0-3 start last year impressed me so I was willing to stick with him. This year he's been hit and miss, there's weeks where we look like a team with a bright future and then there's weeks where it feels like BOB is the reason why Watson isn't as good as I feel like he should be at this point. But really this is the game for me for BOB to prove he's the guy to stick with going forward or if it's time to move on. He needs to win this game and he needs to win at least a playoff game otherwise lets move on it's been long enough.

I agree that if we're able to run the ball, Texans got a great chance! But it will be up to the OL to create opportunities for Hyde. I think controlling Van Noy will be key. So I'm going with Tytus Howard (if he plays). Otherwise, whoever takes his spot whether it's Johnson or Clark.

RAC , if his defense can get to Brady and rough him up a bit. It's a good chance we can beat them. I'm also looking at the Patriots short game. Will RAC allow his cornerbacks to press or play 10 yards back.

Does it seem to you that reader and merciless are less effective or are offenses adjusting to them?

Well, not a player, but the Texans will live or die by what the "OC" does.
I intentionally limited only to players as I did not want this thread to deteriorate as most others have. I was hoping for actual discussion rather than I like O'Brien and you don't type posts.

Gotcha, sorry for the disruption.

Edit: Okay, I am going to be watching DW4 to see if he is allowed to run plays that take advantage of his skillset or if he is going to be throttled and forced to run "the plan."

Do you have anything to say about a player as I asked in the original post? There are other threads to express your hate or love of the O'Brien Trinity.

I just am not optimistic about Clark at all and hope that Rodrick Johnson brings his big boy pants and steps up. I am assuming that bilichek will put his best rusher against our right tackle whoever it may be.

For mine it's Watson.
He has to keep progressing.
Other than him, Fuller healthy is undeniably the key to the passing game. Him and Nuk on the field at the same time must give opposing DCs fits.

I agree, it's Carlos Hyde. Big runs are going to keep the pass rushers honest & help Watson be Watson.

Of course the OL has to dominate, but Hyde has to squeeze through whatever hole they make. Press, then bounce then explode.

If we could run a RB screen I'd go with Duke, but we don't resort to that kind of trickery so... I'm going with Carlos Hyde.

Reader is a stud.

They have to find pass rushers i the draft/FA. But the biggest fix for the pass rush is Watt being healthy. Would you re-sign Mercilus and if so how much would you be willing to pay?

I'm going to say no to signing Mercilus and Reader. Fells and Hyde need to be really cheap or allow them to walk. Same with Roby. That's five free agents + Joseph and I don't see us getting more than one or two FAs coming in so a net of 4 maybe 5 comp picks for 2021. Omenihu and Jacob Martin looking good vs Colts.

My thought at first but Blackson appears to be a suitable replacement. I think Nose is a position to use day three picks or even UDFA to train a couple years then move up. An excellent way to manage cap space, team age and morale. I think Reader will get a huge offer from another team + I want a comp if possible.

I think maybe you forget all the struggles the Texans had finding a NT prior to Wilfork, and Reader is a very good replacement for Vince and worth holding on to if possible

Readers been awesome, it’s nice to have a dominant big man on the nose holding up blocks so our linebackers can make plays. He knows his job and does it well, hard to find in this day.

nope didn't forget just think Blackson is that good. He is not a fatty like WIlfork or early Reader (who has slimmed a lot) but is solid and fast like the current DJ

He does more than that. He sheds blocks & truly defends 2 gaps.

He consistently beats one on one situations making it difficult to double both edges.

He pushes the pocket making it hard for a QB to step up in the pocket.

He's not just playing a role, eating up blocks, he's winning inside.

Readers should have been extended instead of Nick Martin. Reader's going to be expensive.

expense of Reader is why they could not extend or if like I do, they think he can be replaced cheaper with current roster.

I think a lot of the dirty work that Reader does so well beyond the flashy stuff is the reason why this DL is able to function without Watt and Clowney.
You let Reader walk and I think it will be similar to the likes of Glover Quin or Brandon Brooks where it takes several attempts to replace them while the one you let walk starts drawing attention amongst the best in the league.
It’s the mid-tier guys with expensive markets you need to let walk, also at year 4 or 5 whatever it is for Reader he isn’t even the finished article yet, could get even better.
Priority signing for me.

What exactly do you mean by "able to function"? According to defensive DVOA, we are ranked 25th in the league. In past seasons, we are traditionally in the top 10.

What I mean is that you see Omenihu for instance making Brady move around in the pocket because the OL have to honour the interior pass rush, the QB is not just standing there until the coverage breaks. The big plays aren’t there for PFF to chart, but the D is functioning to a point where we can win.
I’m not so sure that happens if you take away our excellent NT.

They looked alot better against the Pats than what I was expecting. I'm really hoping Omenihu and Martin continue to play this well. We really need guys on the front 4 to generate pressure.

I believe Omenihu will be our next Watt/Clowney.

Disclaimer: I’m talking about the role he will play in the future.

RAC loves these type of players in his specific system.

For the rest of the season my focus is on Duke Johnson. Up until the New England game I felt he was being used improperly. Now I think he can be the X factor on the Texans offense. Make the defense have to account for Duke. Run him out to the flats and open up the middle of the field for the TE’s and Stills. Duke is such a valuable weapon.
