Texans random thought of the day

I'm so excited for the Texans/Ravens game this Sunday. I have a good feeling going into this game and I can't put my finger on why right now.
Always makes one feel good to say optimistic things about his team and I do love my Texans, but honestly man do you really give us any
chance this Sunday ?

Texans best team in NFL at NOT going 3 and out on offensive drives:

My optimism will probably die down as the week go on and I remember who's the coach but this team is hardly bad and idk, I just feel like Ravens get knocked down a bit

Probably because of the trade for Tunsil, and the RBs we picked up. Allows Watson to do his thing. Plus, still having a WR like Stills that can be a plan B to stretch the field when Fuller is out helps Watson.

Not saying OB is great or throwing my supper behind him, but you got to give credit where credit is due.

His moves did help the offense, and most importantly keep Watson upright and protected to do his thing.

Absolutely. When Deshaun Watson gets time to throw he is the best QB on the planet.

In August, the Texans mortgaged their future to protect Deshaun Watson. On Sunday, it worked. The Houston Texans quarterback had one of the best games of his career in Houston’s 53-32 embarrassment of the Falcons, and the result showed just how amazing this Houston squad can be if it keeps its franchise quarterback off the turf.

Watson finished with 28 completions on 33 pass attempts for a career-high 426 yards (12.9 yards per attempt), no turnovers, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He had the same number of passing touchdowns (five) as incompletions and became the first player in NFL history with more than 400 yards, five passing touchdowns, and fewer than six incompletions in a game. Crucially, Watson was sacked zero times and hit just once in the game, which is a rarity for the player who led the league in sacks last year and was the third-most-sacked QB entering Sunday. The Texans sent multiple first-rounders to Miami for left tackle Laremy Tunsil in late August and drafted two offensive tackles in the first three rounds in April, but Sunday was the first game when their renewed focus on pass protection showed. It was just the second game of Watson’s career that he was not sacked—the other game was against the Dolphins in Week 8 last year. In that game, Watson also had five passing touchdowns plus a near-perfect rating (156) and more touchdowns than incompletions (four). When the Texans protect Watson, he’s one of the best athletes on the planet.

Texans should consider reuniting a dynamic Clemson passing duo

The Houston Texans consider themselves to be a team with adequate depth at wide receiver. However, outside of DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Stills and Will Fuller (when healthy), it can be better.

Fortunately, options lay within the current free agent crop at the position — outside of Antonio Brown and Dez Bryant. On Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts waived second-year wide-out Deon Cain, a familiar face to many on the roster, including Deshaun Watson.

From 2015 to 2016, Watson and Cain were a dynamic deep-threat duo at Clemson. In the process of two National Championship visits and one win, the pair combined for 72 receptions for 1,306 yards and 14 touchdowns. The quarterback raved about him during their Tiger days.

“He does a great job with his speed, timing the ball, catching the ball right and making sure that he catches it,” said Watson on Nov. 5, 2016, via WLTX. “He’s a great athlete with great speed, great hands.”

At the 2018 NFL Combine, Cain, 23, measured in at 6-2, 202-pounds. He recorded a 4.42-second 40-yard-dash, 33.5-inch vertical jump, 113-inch broad jump and 6.71-second three-cone-drill.

Cain fell to the Colts in the sixth-round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He tore his ACL during a promising training camp; in turn, forcing him out of his rookie season. He did not get out to the hot start Indianapolis envisioned in 2019.

In the seven games before his release on Nov. 9, Cain hauled in four receptions on 14 targets for 52 yards. Though not a promising stat line by any means, Cain could be a redeemable project to develop behind the aforementioned trio.

“He’s always been focused regardless if he has adversity or things like that. He’s one of the most committed guys on the team,” said Watson on Cain. “He always has that mindset that he wants to dominate and come and help the team out.”

Houston is far from top priority on the waiver wire. Nevertheless, if Cain were to fall their way, sending a claim his way could do more good than bad.

Gotta balance it all out, cant have TOO much optimism from me right? It doesnt matter anymore obviously but just makes me think. (same with JD, this is the first week where I wish we had his talents) but if you add up all the players salaries that were brought in to "replace" Brooks you would find that they were about the same.

4.43 speed, familiar with Watson.

I'd certainly kick the tyres pretty hard.

Just read on The Ringer that one of the great statistical feats in Texans history was surpassed by Saquon Barkley this week.

The inaugural Texans team in 2002 had a 13-carry, 1-yard performance from Jonathan Wells, and nobody had matched that line until Sunday.

Congrats Wells for being remembered as one of the true greats....

His dream of NFL greatness could be reignited with Watson.
Sounds to me like Texans would have nothing to lose. Except a roster spot.
I imagine those would be tighter than a fishes rectum right now.

Texans worked out veteran defensive lineman (DT) Caraun Reid on Monday, according to a league source. He is undergoing a physical. He suffered a high ankle sprain midway through the 2015 preseason and played with the injury all year. Jan of 2016, he underwent ankle surgery and came back for the regular season. The end of Oct 2016, he then sustained an ACL rupture. He came back in 2017 to play only 1 game for the Lions, 0 games for the Redskins, and 0 games for the Colts. In 2018, he played in 10 games for the Cowboys, mostly as a backup DT.....with very little stats..

With Joel Heath just being signed, the Texans look like they feel they need help on the DL

Anyone else missing Clowney about now?

Jadeveon Clowney PFF Overall grade 84.5 = 79.3 run defense/75.2 pass rush - 33 total QB pressures/2 sacks/12 run stops/2 TDs
Whitney Mercilus PFF Overall grade 68.4 = 67.3 run defense/59.8 pass rush - 29 total QB pressures/6 sacks/18 run stops/0 TDs
Jacob Martin PFF Overall grade 52.2 = 61.5 run defense/53.7 pass rush - 14 total QB pressures/0 sacks/1 run stop/0 TDs
Barkevious Mingo PFF Overall grade 54.8 = 60.0 run defense/52.7 pass rush - 0 total QB pressures/0 sacks/0 run stops/0 TDs (ONLY 9 SNAPS AS A TEXAN)

Sigh.

I think this was asked because you got Conley for the third we got for Clowney. Clowney came to play last night, but after the Miami fiasco, who knows if he would have sat 8 games or what was going on. When motivated he is a beast and after the summer probably best to play him on the tag if he would of. I liked the idea of saving a 1st in the Miami trade, but Clowney blew that up so we are here now. I look forward not back and think we added some pretty solid players in Stills, Tunsil, Hyde, Conley, Duke and even Jacob Martin seems to make some plays. More hits then misses, maybe paid some extra, but if that means fewer misses ok. Identity shift going on to Watson's team and offensive not defensive identity.

You are about "cost" all of a sudden?

I'd prefer to have both TBH, it's not a one or the other decision.

I'm also tempering my excitement over Conley for now. It was against the Jags w/o Lee and Westbrook. Need to see more of him before claiming him a good acquisition.

Sure it is, the Clowney pick was the pick that they got Conley with.

I'm talking $$$$ cost/Cap space, not draft capital. I'm sorry, I thought you knew what I was referring too.

Vernon Hargreaves anybody ?
Cut for lack of hustle, former overall 11th pick of the draft. 41 receptions on 56 targets. Don't watch any Bucs games but their D is bad so could be situation and coaching. Someone needs to look into it as he is a free agent and could be had if attitude and talent are there. Roby, Conley, Lonnie are a nice young nucleus with some physical skills, but any CB with talent should be looked at. Any Bucs fans who watch more tape??

Exactly, although the defense isn't bad and more talent can be added in next yrs draft/FA to the defensive side of the ball. Best thing that could hapen for next yrs defense is for Watt to stay healthy all of next season. Good news is he will have less wear and tear on his body from not playing a full season and should be fresh next yr. Biceps surgery is a minor surgery and should give his lower extremities issues a chance to get more rest/healing than usual going into next yr. I would love to hear CnD's thoughts on this.

Hook'em needs to weigh in on this.

No, it's not a "one or the other" decision. Even though Texans ended up using that 3rd we got from Seahawks, doesn't mean that was the ONLY thing the Raiders would have taken for Conley.

I also know you were referring to $$$$ cost / cap space. You were a guy harping on the Texans for being "cheap" and not utilizing its cap space. But now, you're praising it? Don't you agree having BOTH Conley & Clowney on this roster today would have been putting the best team possible on the field... which is what you're usually all about?

Oh we we're getting to the crust of it on this one.

Spicy!!!!

How do you know what the Raiders would or wouldn't have taken? What we do know is they would've taken a 3rd and did. I'm glad they had the draft capital because of the Clowney trade to make the Conley move.

Because of the trades/upcoming Watson etc... extensions they will need the cap space. Before I was for keeping the draft picks and fixing the OL in FA. BOB chose to fix the OL through trades (Using future draft picks) and high draft picks in last yrs draft. (This should be commended) Because of this strategy times have changed and they will need to extra cap space to continue to build the roster rather than having a few highly paid players and very little depth. Texans fans dont know any better since this is the way that the roster has been constructed for the last 12-13 yrs and they aren't used to seeing the roster being constructed in a new and better way. IMHO

Agai, of course I would rather have Clowney and Conley both on the roster at the same time. Care to tell me what you knew the Raiders would've taken in a trade for Conley minus the Clowney pick?

2020 2nd rounder? I know that trade is worse for the Texans, but just simply stating the fact that we did NOT have to trade Clowney in order to acquire Conley. It was not one or the other.

BTW, very interesting how you've changed your tune on this franchise once again. From your perspective, we went from "Salary Cap Champs" to a "brilliant change in strategy", all in a few months. Now I'm not saying one approach is better than the other, it's just hard to keep track of your stance on the current franchise. Are we back to "things are changing on Kirby" once again?

Nope, that dude is overrated and feels entitled. Give me guys with Chips on their shoulders.

I would agree except his Dad is a coach . Usually coaches kids are good in the locker room so maybe he thinks the Bucs defensive coaches are bad .

It's pretty easy to keep track of my thoughts. Since they started trading picks to improve the roster (Which I'm on board for) they need the cap space to fill out the depth on the roster. I'm talking about the Fells type. FA acquisitions. Frankly they're now handling personnel decisions like they should've been yrs ago. IMHO

How about the staff before them? He's been trouble for 2 staffs and counting.

How exciting is it now with DW4 under center?
It is intriguing watching him play and develope.
He is going to be elite by about year 5.
A SB is a real possibility with this young man here.
Good times ahead!

Agreed, some posters here don't want to admit this. I actually think next yr is the yr that they will be true contenders.

You mean posters like yourself? It was just two weeks ago after the Raiders game you were saying we'll never win a championship with Watson, and if you had a choice, you'd get rid of BOTH O'Brien and Watson and start fresh.
