Thanks for your support!

Mid-season what are our strengths?

This team has shown a lot of resilience. So I'm going with that as a strength.

Agreed. I think our talent overall has improved. & if we can get healthy we'll see results on the field.

But our biggest strengths are the intangibles this team has never shown with any consistency.

The Texans aren't doing anything now than they've already done in the past. They've proven themselves to erratic, mediocre, but flashing great stuff at times.

Exactly. We need to grab one of those flashing moments and hold on to it.

This team to me is just frustrating.
It seems that it is not being used to maximise it's potential and I blame that on the coaching.
Sure, we see one or two weeks of good even exciting football, then it goes back to frustrating to watch football - there is just no consistency.
When we get our run game going and our Oline is protecting Watson well, I think we can beat any team in the league.
Getting a show of it one week to have your expectations shot down the next just saps the enthusiasm.
If we have a solid win against Jags and are 6 - 3 going into the bye what's Your Enthusiasm level? Preseason would you have been okay with 6 and 3? I definitely get the sap. I am not nice to be around after a Texans loss.

Agreed, but some in the Jesusincleats crowd don't seem to understand this.

I'm discouraged by his lack of progress and am beginning to wonder if he's going to become damaged goods before he figures it out.

The fact that BOB is using him like a tailback tells me what he thinks.

You’re getting really good at criticizing other people on this board without actually naming names. If you’re going to attack members of this board how about directing towards an individual rather than this passive-aggressive trolling act that you’ve become way to comfortable with. You did it for years in regards to Rick Smith supporters, now you’re doing it with those supporting Watson.

Just support your guy (O’Brien) and be critical of Watson.

So he's stupid again?
guys please take this to another thread. I don't want this to devolve into a back-and-forth he said she said blame this guy blame that guy argument.

To answer the OP

The OL/Wr's/RB's/ Front 7
Would you add Jordan Reed, merciless, and Cunningham as being good players? If so wouldn't that be the majority of the positions? Also and I know it's a big point, barring injuries in the 2nd half of season would not these be even better with time together? We know what could go wrong but it could go really well. I am not trying to pour Kool-Aid but look logically at what we have.

Very true

Except any qb in the league can run it in from 2 yards out. OBrien is just the only one stupid enough to continually put his qb in harms way.

Hyde and Johnson are completely capable of running it when they are that close. Yet Watson is the one who always gets his number called.
This is because OB goes empty formation inside the 5 yd line, the OL can't protect, and before you know it it's 3rd and goal. Give the ball to your QB and let him run it in. This is why.

The Pats/Saints do this regularly.

See how many short TD catches Thomas has.

I agree, but what do those two teams have in common?? Hall of Fame QB's and coaches, and great offensive coordinators.

Yep, the QBs have to get rid of the ball quickly when running shotgun that close to the GL. It appears that BOB has given up throwing in this situation and is running Watson like a tailback, quite successfully I might add. About time

There are lots of serendipitous surprises to go with the expected strengths. The play of new O linemen, especially Sharping. We have found a good all-around TE in Fells. Stills has been a credit, as has Gipson.

I've got a question …. What is the "identity" of this team.

We really don't know who they are (Other than beat up). They are so hot and cold.

We have a “franchise” QB now. All we need is a coach that knows how to use him to the best of his abilities and who has a good grasp of game management.

Watson's play is the identity of this team.

When he's not they lose.

Inconsistency is the identity of this team.

Bandaiditos! Want to be bad boys and take wins from other teams but injuries are the nemesis mas grande.

Well we know Obrien wants to run the ball and control the time of possession. We know he wants to be able to counter the different defenses. Then there's the skillsets of Watson.

Lol man I couldn't tell ya

The identity of this team is whatever we need it to be in that particular game...which is a defining characteristic of the game plan offense...I don't like it but its undeniable.

we've won in back & forth scoring fests - KC
we've won defensive struggles Jax
we've won from coming from behind late - Oak
we've won with our offense having to put up points to have a chance- KC
we've won with our defense having to make a big stop - SD, Jax
we've won close games - Jax
we've won in blowout fashion - ATL
we've won games when we probably should've lost - Oak
we've won games that noone thought we would win - KC, SD

All of that starts with having a stud under center.

I dislike sloppy gameplay but with probability of rain in London I just want to get out of there with a W and minimal injuries. Two weeks off before facing the Ravens will be good at 6 - 3 .
Well now in hindsight no rain and in my opinion a very very good win. I am unaware of any major injuries at this time but just came to the board tonight

I’ll start with the offensive line.

The Running game is stellar.

Watson has been elite 3 years straight, and he’s been able to embrace the additional help on offense. His growth has been very impressive.

on defense, It seems DJ Reader is imprinting his personality onto the whole unit. We are watching Readers Embrace the torch Watts had carried for so long.

Real weakness has beenthe defensive backs, but even they are improving as the season rolls along.

Negative - BoB is the HC
Negative- BoB is the GM
2 negatives = a positive

Just kidding sort of

Watson is truly special. Not perfect but special.

Our running game is strong.

Our OL when healthy looks good.

DHop could be even better than Andre. And imo Andre sets a super high standard.

I don't think OB is worried about Watson's stats. I think he is more concerned with scoring TDs and winning games. Watson's ability to run the ball is a weapon in the arsenal and I think most coaches would make use of it.
It’s comical that if we WEREN'T allowing Watson to use his ability to score close to the goal line the same crowd could bemoan that point. It will always be something.......

I would add RAC to our strengths, but I'd like to see how he schemes against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens next game. The Texans have yet to allow a 100 yard rusher this year, so this next game will certainly tell us a lot about this defense.
I have not been very pleased with Crennel this season until just recently TBH. This Dline can limit run without any design from RAC. What he did with Lonnie and Gareon Conley vs Jags was impressive. If he can add a pre-injury Roby for the rest of the season our defense could be fun to watch

RAC defenses has always struggled against these type of quarterbacks. Hopefully we will be up for the challenge.
